So far so good!

"I've a truck reserved for me w/ I-5 Toyota and thus far my experience has been great! Effective communication from the salesperson - she's quick to respond and treats me like a valued customer. I like their straightforward approach. Looking forward to picking up my truck in a couple months!"

Well, we got the car my wife wanted, so there’s that.

"First the positives: low sales tax and a pretty straightforward and timely buying experience for a high demand vehicle. There was no “market adjustment” nonsense, and I want to at least give credit for that.

Now for the unfortunate bits. Online the car was advertised as sticker minus $500 when my wife called and committed to the pre-order. They also confirmed that they participate in the Costco car buying program, which is usually solid and reliable. Since this was my spouse’s car buying experience felt it was best to play a background role, to “trust the process” and essentially go along for the ride, figuring that sticker minus 500 was a decent deal even if the Costco rate wasn’t better. Frankly, didn’t pay much attention (trust the process) and didn’t realize until afterward that my wife paid sticker PLUS about $60, partly due to some bogus “eco car pro” paint protection for $395 that wasn’t on the sticker or ever mentioned prior to us showing up… but “we put it on every car”.

With this car, the options were pretty much to just take it or leave it, and leaving wasn’t an option this time (spouse is non-confrontational, was already mad at me, and wanted the car)… so I didn’t argue or do the math and we took it. Ok, a few bucks over sticker isn’t tragic these days, and frankly it didn’t truly register, but the last time I bought a Toyota (at a different dealer) through the Costco program it was several grand below invoice and they ceramic coated the truck at no extra charge as part of dealer prep.

Debated how many stars to give the review and figured I’d be generous… not **** off since we DID get a car relatively quickly in a tight market for a not unreasonable price, but this nickel and diming is irritating. If I were there alone, I’d have walked.
