"Since this site was instrumental in my selection, I figured I should post my experience with my decision.

I spent a lot of time looking for the best price and package for an Olympus 5050 digital camera. It was also important for me to find a reseller who had treated their customers right, after reading all of the horror stories this was probably more important than lowest price.

I did the best price searches using the available web sites and still wasn't comfortable with what was out there, then a friend recommended that I look out at ebay for the camera, eventually I found the Pro package at 47st Photo, the package deal was the best out there that I could find and I did a lot of searching even after I found them. Then after looking at their buyer ratings, which are head and shoulders above the rest, I went ahead and did a "Buy It Now". This is my first ebay purchase, I guess all of the bad press kept me away, I honestly didn't think "reputable business" and "ebay" was possible, boy was I wrong.

All I can say is that this is the best Internet purchase I have ever made. Excellent product they even included something that I thought I was going to have to buy. Outstanding service, no pressure sales when I called the next day to complete the purchase. Shipping was immediate I had it up here in Alaska in two days. I wish I could say more about this place, I will definitely buy from them again. This is probably the best camera site out there, you can be skeptical but make sure you check these guys out, I am sure you will be as comfortable and impressed as I was if you go with them. Kudos to this site and 47th St Photo for a great buying experience.

One bit of advice for the buyers out there, it looks like the prices that are available via the ebay site are much better than what they have at their regular site which is linked above, check out their ebay store at this link to see all of their available items and packages http://www.stores.ebay.com/id=16658448

And for the folks at 47st, thanks for including the lens adapter. The only thing negative was that I didn't know I was going to get it because it wasn't listed in the package. I know, what a complainer, but it was the only thing I worried about until the package arrived. Great job, thank you.

In closing, I still can't believe I bought something off of ebay. If I learned one thing, it is that you can really find great deals AND honest/reputable resellers out there at ebay. This has been a real paradigm shift for me. If you are looking for the best of the best you have gotta check these guys out.

"Shipping was really fast, and the camera bag arrived in perfect condition, exactly as described.

However, there was a discrepancy over the shipping prices (one page listed $5.95 and another listed it as $8.95). Attempts to contact the store by e-mail were rather useless, as I received a couple of "automatic responses," and another e-mail that I guess was handled by a real "person" but did not address the nature of my question (that of which was the applicable shipping price). It just told me to call their toll-free number if I wanted to use my credit card. I took a chance and paid the $5.95 shipping, and everything worked out well.

I didn't try calling, so I can't say the store has bad customer service. The product is great, it was a pretty smooth transaction, so what I'd suggest is, if there are any questions/problems, don't bother e-mailing, just call'em!"

"In 47st.Photo's favour, I've now got a good scanner, at a reasonable price, delivered from Brooklyn to Toronto in about 18 hours. That I can't fault.

Unfortunately, the rest of the transaction was a comedy of errors and omissions:

- scanner advertised in headline as **NEW**, when in fact it was factory refurbished.

- both the auction page and the seller's ChannelAdvisor payment page said that PayPal was accepted for international orders. On paying with PayPal, it was immediately refunded, along with a note saying that they didn't take PayPal outside the USA.

- this PayPal refund put my credit card on "fraudulent use" status, blocking two attempts by me to pay by BidPay.

- on phoning them, I was assured they took Visa for Canadian orders. They took my details, but phoned me back saying they couldn't, and only wire transfers were acceptable.

- when I made the wire transfer using the details and amount supplied by 47st.Photo, I got phoned again to say that the wire amount was US$57 short. Curiously, they accepted Visa for this.

- when the item arrived, I discovered I had been charged US$20 for paying by wire. No mention of this charge was made in their payment instructions.

** Update, 8 March: I'm afraid 47st.Photo's response is not quite truthful. I have a credit card statement and a PayPal transaction list that both show them taking the payment, and then refunding it. Their US$20 charge is on their invoice; I had already taken care of C$35 charges from my bank."
