"Bought my first guitar, A Gibson LG-0 from these guys in 1968. Been going to them every since. Had a problem with an new amp, they sent to be repaired and loaned me one while waiting. Now this is service! Bough a Boss pedal at the 2014 Summer Philly show from Randy, we reminisced for a moment. Nicest guys. You don't stay in business that long without great service. "Seeing the dismal 2.5 star rating for this vendor, I was very worried whether I should make a purchase from them. I was also cynically wondering whether the 5-star reviews were from 8th Street staff attempting to fluff up the score. But the music case I wanted was cheaper here than anywhere else (by a margin of almost 15%), and I figure if I charge my credit card I could always get refunded and dispute the claim if things went wrong.
It took 3-4 days for them to ship the item, which would knock a half star off (I'm still rounding up to 5 because of price). But they sent an email the day of, sent email with tracking, so the transaction in spite of my strong reservations went smoothly."
"I typically do not write reviews of products or merchants, but in this case felt compelled to do so. First of all, please take note of the date of this review. It is February 27, 2013. There are quite a few reviews of this merchant that are several years old. Mine is very current. I came across this merchant quite by accident doing a search for some items that have been out of production for several years. They are very, very hard to find in the selection I was looking for. I searched all over the country online for these items, in music stores, other retail locations, Ebay, private owners, etc. No one, except 8thstreet.com had the variety and selection of what I was looking for. In all honesty, to me that was a “red flag” of sorts. So, one of the first things I did was check “reselleratings.com”, which I have successfully used before. Well the feedback was not good. I was just going to forget the whole thing since I figured since pretty much no one had a selection/variety of these items ANYWHERE online, how could this place have several different ones IN STOCK, “ready to ship”, right? Then I figured, maybe I will take a little “leap of faith” here. I decided to write a note to the company and asked some very straight forward questions. First ones were easy. I wanted to know if they, in fact had these particular items in stock, and whether they were new. Then I questioned them regarding the reviews and feedback I read on “reselleratings.com”. Within hours I got a response back from the Customer Service Manager answering all my questions. He stated that they did have all of the items I was looking for and they were all brand new. He also explained that the store does not participate in the reselleratings.com program. That some of those reviews go back to the mid 2000’s and many of those people had not even contacted them. He stated that they have been in business for over 70 years at a retail location. He offered to work with me personally and handle the order if I chose to do so. Well after doing a little more research, I decided to take that little “leap of faith”, and placed that call to Evan Miller, the Customer Service Manager. He was very pleasant and professional. He said he could take my order verbally, however, I felt more comfortable setting up an account and entering everything on my end so I had a hard copy of the transaction. The problem with that was that, when I did it on my end, the “first time buyers 10% discount” didn’t work since the system excluded it because of the manufacturer of the items. Plus the shipping that was automatically charged, was too high. Evan told me to just complete the order even though the amount was going to be too high, and as soon as it was processed, he would re-process, apply the 10% discount, plus reduce the shipping charge. Well that’s what I did. As soon as I hit “enter” to process the order, within 5 minutes, I got a new order emailed back to me with the discounts applied. I received the items a few days later delivered in perfect condition. So, folks, in my case, 8thstreet.com came through for me with flying colors. I’m not discounting any other reviewers on this site that state they have had problems. They may or may not have. All I am trying to do here is tell the other “side of the story”....and in the case, it is a CURRENT side of the story.....February, 2013. I will have no problem dealing with 8thstreet.com in the future as long as I get the type of customer service I was given this time around."
"Incredibly slow. I did not know sending me an email with a download link and serial key could be so slow.
After hearing plenty of bad things about their service to customers who purchase hardware from them, I felt it was fair to add that they can't properly service customers buying software either. If you're ordering plugins/software, it's best to deal with a different vendor or buy from the manufacturer directly.
I have yet to receive my "Digital Download""
"Cheap store did not honor its own return policy and still owes me money a year later. It took so long, many months, to go through the painful return process without being refunded at all, and then the refund was short in money. I have it all in e-mails from the store. I will never purchase from 8th Street again. "
"I ordered a Kel Audio Song Sparrow Microphoen from these guys because it was cheaper than any other online store (they had a 15% off sale) AND it included a free Kel HM-1X microphone via rebate. I wanted to make sure that they had both mics in stock, as it seemed too good to be true, so I gave them a call. The person I talked with (Evan) was very helpful in answering my questions, and there was no long waiting on hold to talk with someone. The Song Sparrow mic got here hassle free, but there was no rebate form in the box. I e-mailed 8th street, and they e-mailed me back with the form within the hour. This store has great prices and exemplary service. I experienced none of the problems that older reviews have mentioned. If there were in fact such problems occurring several years ago, they are most certainly gone now. "
"I have ordered two basses from 8th street in the past two years. Both have been fulfilled with ZERO problems and the cased basses have shipped quickly! The customer service people answered multiple emails from me in quick fashion.....not sure what else I could ask for (the price on my last bass was also over a $100 lower than anyplace else!)."
"I made a purchase off ebay and received damaged goods from these jerks. What really frosts me is that they never mentioned the damage in their description and you can tell from the photographs that they were hiding the damage. The SOBs would not do a partial refund or fix the problem, but then when they got negative feedback they offered to bribe me to remove the feedback, I need to avoid these creeps like the plague."
"I just bought a Hofner Icon Bass from the mail order department of 8th Street Music in Philadelphia. The experience was perfect. I ordered the bass online on a Saturday morning. An employee called me on Monday to confirm my billing information and answer a question I had emailed ("is the item in stock?" - it was). They shipped it UPS that day and I received it the next day. Brand new - double boxed - as described. The transaction could not have been better. Thanks 8th Street!

"I purchased a set of tweeters for Event 20/20 monitors and realized my amp right side blew. So i RMA the tweeters sent them back Fedex. They received the tweeters and i never received a credit, So i called them and they tell me "Oh yea we received the tweeters but they were in bad shape so we cant refund you the money"! These people are a bunch of crooks! i sent the package exactly like they sent it to me and i only tested 1 tweeter. The manager told me "Just make a claim to Fedex, since its only $100 bucks they would pay it no Problem". Thats the type of business these people are running. I have american express fighting for me now for the past month. Do Yourself a favor Stay free and clear from this company"
"Retailer fulfilled order with wrong items (speaker bags made for a different model speaker, not similar in size) - contacted retailer, insisted I send back wrong item and once items were in transit they would ship the correct items. Called the next day, then the supervisor who I spoke with before informed me that the correct items were not available in the first place - big waste of my time - I then asked him to go ahead and credit me now so I could make my purchase with another retailer - he then insisted that he must wait for the items to come to him before he could do the credit. All this due to their mismanagement of inventory. Will not purchase from this retailer again."
"Just like the others in these messages. I ordered a product on a monday and got the confirmation ok. But kept checking on shipping status and it only read processing. This was wednesday. Not even shipped yet. Bad service. Will not return."
"Terrible service. I placed my order in December, received an auto-response by email and then nothing. Contacted them on January 13th and didn't hear back. Contacted them again on January 20th and didn't hear back. Finally, at the beginning of March I phoned them and they said, "Oh, we no longer carry one of the products you ordered." Well, how about the rest of the order, I asked, are you ever going to send that? Finally, on March 10th they sent the rest of my order.
Note: They continue to advertize the product they said they no longer carry (Yamaha XG Works).
