"update 2: 02/14/03 I filed with the Attorney Generals office (see below for website) and found another website of interest: NYC small claims court
http://www.ci.nyc.ny.us/html/dca/html/smallclm.html
Update: 02/14/03 It has been 10 days now that AAAcamera has told me that the $1998.00 Credit has been applied to my Amex card and each day I call Amex and I am told it has not been applied and that there isn't any "pending" credits on the account. The lies just continue to come in from AAAcamera. The latest one is that Mr. Gossencski (the man who does the credits) has approved the credit but that he is on vacation for the holiday weekend (Valentines day) from Wednesday until at least Tuesday of next week. I didn't know Valentines day was that big a deal in NYC. My next action will be to contact the Attorney General of the State of New York (Web. Address: http://www.oag.state.ny.us/complaints/complaints.html
and see if they can help. After that I guess I can hire a lawyer in NYC. If I go that route I will be contacting everyone I can on this list who would be interested in going after these guys!!!!!! If anyone here has pending itigation against AAAcamera please contact me if your lawyer would like my input on AAAcamera
Back in April,02 I placed and order for a Canon D-60 Digital camera. Total $1998.00. Talking to the sales rep at AAA Camera I was told that they were in Stock and that I would be getting it in a week. After 2 Weeks went by I called back to find out that they had charged my credit card the full amount and that I was on a waiting list for the next one that came in. This went on for six months!!! Each time I called I got another story and finally I cancelled the order in Nov of 2002. Here it is Feb of 2003 and after calling them at least 3 times a week and being told it was taken care of I still haven't received my money back. They did send me a "Store Credit" yesterday for the full amount.... Like I am going to order something from them or go to NYC to buy something from them in person ( I live in Texas). But as always, they then told me it was a mistake and I would have to send the "store credit" back to them before they could refund me any money. What a joke!!!! Lesson learned.... Stay away from the NYC camera companies selling stuff for great prices! I opted to buy the Canon from a local shop here in Dallas, cost me $200 more but I had it that day. PLEASE STAY AWAY FROM AAA CAMERA!!!!! I filed with the BBB of NYC as well to see if that would help. "
"In late December 2002 I purchased an Metz32z-1 flash from AAA Camera in New York.
They told me the item was in stock and would be shipped as soon as they recieved payment. I sent them a USPS money order for $107.69. To this day 01/30/03 I have not recieved the flash. I have called them three times and they have told me three different stories. Item was shipped, not in stock, no record of transaction. One lie after another.
The Post Office tells me I will have to wait sixty days to do a trace on the money order to see who and when it was cashed.
I don`t expect to ever see the product I ordered or the money I paid them.
My experience with this company has been a bad one."
"On october 30, 2002 I ordered 16 Leica spotting scopes from AAA Camera. I was told that the order was too large to place on a credit card and that a certified check was required. At that time, I inquired as to ship time. I was told all scopes were in stock and would ship as soon as funds arrived. I overnighted the check and it cleared my bank Nov. 7. I called to check on order. They said it would ship in a "few" days. To date, I have talked to "Bob", "Barry", "Mike", "Glen" and "Mark". Each time I get a different lie. I finally received 1 scope on January 22. When I called "Barry" told me this was intentional to be sure this was what I really wanted. On the 21 of January "Mark" told me all of the scopes would ship overnight. I have called on a daily basis for the past month, have been given bogus tracking numbers, and have been placed on hold for more than 10 minutes at a time so someone can "check my order status". Today I am contacting my local FBI office, the Attorney General in New York and the BBB. DO NOT EVEN THINK ABOUT ORDERING FROM THIS COMPANY!!! Today I was told my scopes would come in 3 shippments for my security?!? What is that supposed to mean? What a bunch of garbage!"
"I think everyone (including me) who is browsing this website for AAA Camera or has posted a review about this company has been or is about to be ripped off. Lets all work together to put these guys out of business so they cannot continue to do this to people. If you have been in any way ripped off by AAA Camera I implore you to contact your credit card company and have them talk with their security offices to put them on their fraudulent busineses list. These credit card companies in turn will not do business with AAA camera. If one person from every major credit card company does this, AAA camera will no longer be able to operate. I also strongly incourage everyone to contact your local FBI offices and report them for fraud. Get them involved! This is the only way this nightmare will go away. If enough attention is brought to this scam they will eventually be shut down!"
"Do NOT buy from this company. They charge your Credit Card when items are out of stock and do not keep customer apprised of status. Very rude customer service!"
"I ordered a Pentax 645N system from them on January 8, 2003. I ordered it for overnight delivery. The next day I had an E-mail from AAA asking me to call. I did and was told that I'll get my equipment the next week. He also said that they handle their MasterCard sales through PayPal. Naively I PayPaled them the total. For the next week or so I got the runaround every time I called for an order status. (They would say that their system is down, or that the person who handles inquiries was not there) I finally cancelled the order and am waiting to see if they paypal me the money I sent them. Avoid like the plague"
"Warning: AAA Camera is the same as AAA Camera Exchange.
I stumbled into the AAAcamera.com site from Google while searching for some Nikon lenses. The site lists practically every camera and lens made by anybody, at very attractive prices. When I called them to place some orders, I was a little taken aback by how curt these people were. When they could not answer some very basic questions, I got a little suspicious. The only thing the sales rep wanted to do was to very quickly get to my credit card number, which was a red flag.
The guy finally gave me a toll number to call for any "technical questions". I figured they were probably a low-cost, low-margin operation, and called the toll number ***-***-****. The "help" I got was pathetic, so I decided to do a little more research on the products I wanted.
When I hit Google again, I chanced upon a link to a Web site called AAA Camera Exchange that led me to this site (ResellerRatings.com). Here, I saw that AAA Camera Exchange was portrayed as nothing short of a total disaster from many customers who have been burnt by this company.
I was not sure if AAA Camera Exchange and AAACamera.com were one and the same, so I checked out both the sites, and saw that they cross linked to one another. Here, at this link, you can see that they talk about AAA Camera Exchange on the AAAcamera.com site: http://www.aaacamera.com/about_us.html
Out of curiosity, I called the AAA Camera number and asked the sales rep if AAA Camera.com was in any way affiliated with AAA Camera Exchange, or if they were the same company.
The guy BLATANTLY LIED and said he had "never heard of AAA Camera Exchange", and that "must be somebody else". Unbelievable! I called a few hours later just for the heck of it, spoke to a different sales rep, who also said he did not know any AAA Camera Exchange, and they were AAA Camera.com.
You would think if these guys wanted to shed their dubious reputation and clean up their image, they would have the sense to use some unrelated new name, but apparently not.
In any case, please be advised that AAA Camera.com and AAA Camera Exchange are the same business. I came very close to risking over $2500, and feel very lucky that I dodged a bullet.
AVOID this business."
"This is the worst online shopping experience I've ever had. These people continuously lied to me about the availability of the product, the shipping details (I've been given at least three false tracking number). They said they sent the purchased item every week.
To make a long story short, I ordered a pair of binoculars on august 26th 2002, and received them on january 6th 2003 after countless phone calls, a complaint at the bureau for better buisness, and a cancellation by certified mail with return card on december 2nd 2002. I am keeping them since they appear to be exactly what I ordered, and am tired of dealing with these crooks. "
"I do not have an invoice# because I have not received my order. Its way late in gettnig here...."
"Worst experience I've had buying on the internet! Don't even consider ordering. Will not complete sales at advertized price/delivery. Always trys to exchange for off-brand products."
"Absolute worst experience I have had with on line shopping. Stay far away from AAA camera - It took me almost a year to get my money back and only through American Express Counter Claim. "
"Go away from that animals... I order Canon Digital photo S230 and now I read all that comments and thinking I must be onother idiot... But this is truely America's market ??? They are realy serious in antagonism Europe ?"
"Extremely frustrating experience trying to deal with this company. Extremely rude on all of my contacts with them. I ordered the camera, they sent the camera, charged me for the case, strap, battery which is a part of the Deluxe Olympus that I ordered. The camera I recieved was not the Deluxe but was the lesser model and it was broken. I called them, they rudely responded to "SEND IT IN!". I returned it and hear nothing from them until I called them. They then said that they had not sent the wrong camera and if I wanted to cancel the order there would be a 15% restocking fee -- RIDICULOUS!!! All in all a terible experience. I'll post the outcome when I see if they credit my account. Beware of this outfit!"
"Placed an order for a set of binoculars and paid by credit card then I was told the item was out of stock so I cancelled my order. They went ahead and billed my credit card any how! When I called to request they credit my account they gave me the run around. These people are rude and their behavior untrustworthy!
