I have owned six hand blenders, 1992 - 2012. Price and versatility for a conceptual kitchen tool drew me to this type of kitchen tool. I grew to find the hand blender as one of four indispensible kitchen power tools, the toaster, the blender, and the small microwave.
I began with a 100 watt Braun and used it so much I burn it up within a year or two. I increased the motor size and found more usages. I bought more powerful and compared values. I continued to wear the units out. I learned to over extend the units design. After five failed in approximately 16-17 years, I purchased my sixth, a 330 watt Rocco hand blender, a great deal. I researched and shopped for cost, quality, and power for a hundred hours and more, over a few weeks. I obviously use blenders in a demanding manner.
I use the blenders in hot things, and after a few years of usage, this sixth blender is showing signs of bearing stick due the slight misalignment of the bearings, shaft and the plastic blade housing. This circumstance is my fault for using the hand blender on too many hot foods, obviously. I do not place the blender in boiling materials but slightly hotter than eating temperature. I had faith this 330 watt Rocco would meet my needs. The joint was strong, the housing was sturdy and the design comfortable and rugged. Yet I continued to meet the design limits.
I had been observing the Waring for quite some time. When I priced this last hand, the Rocco 330 watt blender, I sought high wattage and a stainless steel blade housing. They were not available for what I wanted to spend. The Rocco price was in the neighborhood of $50-60. Then the Waring was $250. I the Rocco 330 watt would meet my need to test the extreme sport of kitchen duty. I have used the Rocco for 4 to 5 years, but the blade shaft is sticking and shows in the operability of the unit. Until this circumstance, this is the finest hand blender I have ever owned. The extra gadgets were a bit too much. The unit cost might be lower if the extras were available but by request from consumer. The Braun Muliti Quick was extreme in gadgets.
I began to over extend the Rocco 330 watt unit to obviously deteriorating heat and time length usage. I began to consider the Waring line of hand blenders since my fifth purchase, a Braun, 250 watt. The Braun was great, too many attachments as a chopper and blender and a drink mixing flask were just extras to me. The 250 watts and price were not bad at about $60 dollars from Costco. The unit failed in less than two years, at the hard rubber gear like connection with the blade housing or at the joint. My fault again, for overtaxing design, obviously. The joint was not replicable, as I tried.
After six hand blenders and approximately $250 to $350 dollars and the wasting of scarce raw materials for the manufacturing of these units, I went out and put my money on the Waring WSB50 12” Stainless steel shaft restaurant grade hand blender. I did not know what I was purchasing but I purchased a $280 unit to save processing materials and to stop wasting my shopping and research time and money.
This unit arrived and the monster is a whopping 750 watts rated, as described. This is the smallest ¾ horse powered motor I have ever seen. This is a two handed blender and the speed control is fantastic. The blade, housing, grip and power will stand in for my Rotozip and then some. The kick back from the Waring seems less than the Rotozip. Should I receive kick back from a piece of food catching in the blade and when my elbow goes through the kitchen sheet rock.
All Kidding aside, I am pleased with this unit. It is large but well designed. The hand grip and speed control are exceptional. The ‘kick’ from starting this Waring ¾ horse hand blender is very minimal in fact I have never felt a ¼ horse do any less ‘kick’ than this Waring. The 250 Watt Braun is comparable in ‘power on kick’ if you start at the Waring in the lowest speed, of which there is variable speed control 1-9. The Waring balance works well, but you have to use two hands to reasonable get the unit to where you want it, including back into the drawer. This Waring WSB50 is much more compact than a food processor-blender and more powerful, much more versatile and capable of replacement of the blade housing. But assembled the Waring might be close to two feet long. This Waring will allow me to make my own peanut butter, chop ice, and grind coffee, maybe even homemade cheese wiz with great cheese.
I have one complaint. The Seller unit required me to open the package in the presence of the shipper and inspect the unit. The UPS or FedEx or DHL delivery person and I did not agree. He had his rounds to maintain. The company policy to open the carton in front of the shipper is incorrect.
The unit was perfect and works great. The price was the best at the time and the sales were supportive. The seller and the shipper need work.
