"I ordered a Samsung UN60KS8000 4K TV, which they advertised for $1,449.00 with “free shipping”. A little while afterwards, I got a call from someone at AV Wonder Land. He wanted to confirm that it was actually me that ordered the TV. Fair enough, I thought. The next thing that came out of his mouth was, “Do you have a popup blocker? Did you notice that we offer extended warranty of three years for $159.99?”
I told him that my Amex card offers extended warranty, and that I didn’t need it. The next thing he said set off alarm bells in my head, and I’m paraphrasing here: “Because this is a high value item, we will need to add on insurance to the shipment.”
“How much?”
“With the cost of the television and shipping insurance, it’ll be $1,695.” (or somewhere around there, I honestly don’t remember but I know the figure was significantly higher than the “sticker price”.)
So there was some back and forth, and I found another seller that sold the TV for $50 more. I told that to this guy, and he told me some load of BS about how the cheaper TVs use an 8-bit panel manufactured in Asia, whereas this one uses a 10-bit panel that’s manufactured in Mexico. I told him I’d need some time to think about it.
So I did research. Made phone calls. Even called Samsung themselves and they confirmed that they don’t use the cheaper 8-bit panels on their high end TVs. I was going to call him back, but I was running late and had to head to my other job.
He called back yesterday while I was at work and I told him that I’ll need to go ahead and cancel the order. The whole exchange just reeked of dishonesty, to the point where I felt 100% uncomfortable giving them a single red cent. I can’t recommend AV Wonder Land to anyone. You’re better off paying a tiny bit more for a company with a better reputation. $50 is worth avoiding dealing with the runaround and nonsense of less reputable sellers. "
