"Overall it was a good purchase. The Alienware M17X is an awesome machine. I just wish their customer support was better able to give you a straight answer when you call for status updates. But overall The system rocks. The dual videocards scream and the turbo memory kicks everything up. But I got the 4 GB ram in the machine... What a waste. Vista won't recognize it all because I have a a full GB of Video Memory and another full GB of Turbo Memory which leaves only 2GB for vista to see. Had I known that before I purchased I would have saved the $400 and chosen 2GB instead... But overall the system is stable, fast and it looks cool. It doesn't run hot either. The Blu ray burner is a nice addition and the AlienFX keyboard is interesting... Once the unit shipped it took 3 days, not bad from Florida to Ohio... It took them a Month to ship it but I knew that when I ordered it, it was only 2 business days after they "estimated" it would ship.

Despite the Customer Service not being all that helpful the Tech support (Used on my Previous machine not this one) was good and resolved my issues.

"Having purchased an Alienware Area-51 m9750 last Winter, I recommended them to my family this summer as having an out of the box, trouble free, super high performance laptop. I recently purchased another Area-51 m9750 laptop and an Aurora class desktop for my father. They arrived at my home and were again, out of the box, trouble free, high performance machines. I feel the build time and shipping time is excessive, but for the class of machine your getting, its worth it. Also, Alienware are not the most expensive machines out there, they are an excellent performance per dollar value. A comparable performing machine from another manufacturer is significantly more money."

But I was surprised with the attention to small details such as the easy website for selection of current and affordable hardware, the constant communication from the building process to delviery and especially the design of the computer case. "Actual purchase was 5/4/06. Delayed several months due to them failing to tell me a part was out of stock. Was not informed until 2 weeks after purchase there would be a delay. Did not receive computer until 7/10/06. 2 years later, battery at 50% or original capacity. With the computer not even 3 years old, the power jack melted to the power supply and the pin came out. They refuse to take any responsibility and want to charge $300 just for me to send it to them so they can tell me I need a new jack. Worst computer company ever. Worst sales, worst customer service, worst products. Save yourself the time and money and don't buy from them. It's not worth any of it. There's better stuff out there that won't take advantage of you like this. Way overpriced to be issuing faulty components like this. I'm lucky my house didn't catch on fire and burn up. Customer service is extremely rude. Stay away."

"I absolutely love this computer. You can just pull it out of the box, plug it in and go. The only thing that surprised me was the sheer size of the CPU, but that means it is built for business and can handle practically any game you want to play on it. I would definately recommend (and have) this computer to anyone whether they are a gamer or just someone that wants a computer that won't go out of style within the next 6-12 months.
