since posting my previous review, alienware has contacted me and went above and beyond to make sure the system was working. they sent me two new video cards and had a technician come replace them, no questions asked. when this did not fix the problem, a member of their critical issues department stayed in contact with me and provided several solutions. now that the system works 100% again, alienware has reset my warranty to begin today. the overall experience began rocky, but the company came through and changed my opinion 180 degrees.

i made a purchase from alienware in february 2002, and the experience was wonderful. when i purchased my area-51 m9750 laptop, i cannot say the same. in the first two days we went from stage 1 to stage 6, and i thought things were going to be just as great. however, by the day after my expected ship date, the system was still in stage 6, and no one had contacted me in any way to let me know why. when i contacted them, i got an email about an "unexpected delay" and that it would be another 5 days before expected ship date. so i called to find out why, and they read their scripted response of "we have to uphold the highest standards, and something's not passing the test". yet no one could actually tell me what. so she says she will try and expedite the process, and it should ship within the next 24 to 48 hours. when it didn't, i called again. exact same response, over and over, nearly word for word, including that they would expedite it, and it would ship within 48 hours. the system ended up shipping a week late (which is enough time to scrap the one that wasn't working and just start over), and only after i continued to call, trying to find a straight answer. when it arrived, i let go all the bad customer service because the system was all i wanted and more. until my display drivers "stopped working but has recovered" every time i alt-tab. the last straw was last night, when the infamous blue screen of death hit me. it might just be me, but i think that paying nearly $4000 for a computer means that it does in fact get to you on time and in great condition. neither of these happened, and i will most likely not return to alienware. no explanation has ever been given for the delay or for the shoddy workmanship. "I ordered my Alienware thinking I could finish off my term of university before it was finished being built and was shipped to my house. Once my payment cleared, the computer flew through the design phases which was evermore impressive as I could see which stage the computer was in during the entire process. Then, when it arrived exactly when it was supposed to, despite a freak blizzard that had struck only a few hours before, that was the final straw that blew my socks off.
