"Using vehicle vin #, ordered replacement fuse box plate for my 2011 GTI. Installed it properly and found it to be completely incompatible with my vehicle. Spent hours trying to diagnose why the OBD diagnostic terminal was dead, the DSG transmission was locked in park, and the dashboard was lit up with every possible system failure warning. At the point of getting ready to have the car towed to VW, I reinstalled the old part and the car started immediately and showed no warning lights or ill effects. A scan per my code reader indicated the DSG transmission had been unable to communicate. To be sure I had not installed the new part improperly, I reinstalled it with the exact same results. I called the Autobarn parts desk to explain my situation and get a refund for all or part of my wasted $186. After about 15 minutes on the phone I was told there is no refund on electrical parts. I asked for the name of the person I was dealing with and he refused to provide even a first name. His only answer was that he was following company policy. Apparently company policy is that if you give the right vehicle information and a part is installed properly, it's your tough luck and your loss - just go away! Horrid service and attitude! I'm not a teenager, in fact I'm in my 70's with a lot a auto repair experience.
UPDATE: 3 hours later I spoke by phone with a gentleman at Autosbarn named Brien. He listened to the story and said that under the circumstances he would approve a refund. I'm not giving 5 stars because this should have been the outcome of my first phone call, but I much appreciated the apology and flexibility. As a result, I would purchase from them again in the future."
