"Purchased 12 month Xbox Live code. Funds were removed from my account immediately. I was contacted asking for confirmation to be sent to them via twitter or Facebook. I sent the confirmation and transaction numbers to them via Facebook message. I was asked for more personally identifiable information that is wholly unrelated to an online purchase of this type. When I refused to give it, my transaction was cancelled. No consumer should have to put their personal information at risk of theft for a simple online purchase. I should not have to jump through hoops when you have already taken my money. I should receive my merchandise and be on my way. The refund was processed quickly, but that could be due to my promising to file charges for theft if I were not to receive my merchandise or my money within the hour (code through e-mail would have made this possible). "
"I know I can't prove this to you, but I'm not a plant, or an employee of BananaPlayStore, so you'll just have to take my word that I'm a regular consumer.
I wanted to buy a 12 month gold xbox live membership so I looked on amazon and it was ~£34, but the 'related links' section showed the £21 banana version. I checked these sorts of sites to make sure the store itself is legit, and they all sort of confirm that.
My experience was that they asked for a load of my debit card details (standard), then had to register for the 'verified by visa' service (odd that i have to register, but that's probably because I got a new card from the bank yesterday...). Either way, I paid the £21, received a picture of a code by email within the same minute as purchase and it worked fine. Amusingly, the photo wasn't great quality, so some kind person had hand written a clearer version just above it :)
So yeah. I'm keeping an eye on my bank account, and I've still got all my money, save the £21 apparently well spent... Well oiled service."
"First time dealing w Banana Play Store was a success. Activated code 1st try, was good to go in under 5 minutes. Recommended"
"I purchased an Xbox Live12 month membership and was given a code that was already redeemed. I wrote an email to inform the banana play store and I was told I was the one who used it. Very unprofessional. I have proof and all the emails to show this was a scam. I didn't get a replacement code and they stole my money. "
"Purchased the 12 month Xbox Live membership (reg $59.99) for $35.68. Signed in using facebook, so their authorization system didn't require a verification. My credit card company did (capital one), so the purchase was declined the first time but went through fine after I approved it on their system.
Ordered at 8:14p, received a picture of the code at 8:18p. Worked on first try at Xbox.com. "
"I had to confirm the order for an xbox live gold one month play card via facebook. It was a very unsual way of confirming my order but it went off without a hitch and the code was VALID. Kudos to Bananaplaystore for a 3 min delivery of my game code."
"They look like they have good prices, but I can not say much more than that since they would not even let me buy from them. After getting an account and verifying my email address, I put in my order. Then I get an email saying I need to verify myself by contacting them through facebook or skype. Not being a big facebook fan I tried using skype. I found a contact in there from Brazil with the same name as the store and messaged them as requested.
I never heard anything back and I remember 6 days later that nothing had happened. I contacted their customer service via email, which responded very quickly. They asked me to contact them again on skype. I confirmed the contact name to use and sent them a message. They claimed they never got anything and cancelled my order and said they would refund me. I am not sure why they had charged my credit card when they had not yet shipped me what I ordered.
I asked why they needed this extra confirmation and they said they have to be able to contact me. When asked why email did not suffice, they said the email I used was slightly different than what I had given then. I provided my email with a +bananastore suffix (to aid my own sorting of email) but my email is going to look like it comes from my canonical address (without the +bananastore), which I guess was the issue. Never mind that I had already click the confirmation link in the sign up email and that I had replied to the order confirmation email. I gave up in frustration at that point.
Given the current low profile of this site, I am hoping this is just a poorly run site rather than a scam. I will just have to wait and see if I actually get a refund and if funny charges start showing up on my card.
Update 4/16: They did refund my money and no funny charges on my card yet. So far they just seem to be a bad business."
