Ordered 4 smart chargers, because the price was attractive. I paid for the products $60.89 and international shipping to Canada at $29.37, for a total of $90.26. ORDER #327623.

Package arrived COD (cash on delivery), UPS demanding another $34.15 for brokerage fees. Other vendors include the full shipping cost with brokerage fees at checkout. Not batteryspace! Shipping a small box cost the same as the product itself.

I called UPS about this. They said, at least insofar as personal shipments are concerned, UPS will act as clearance broker. UPS surcharged me by the value of the product + shipping. The lesson there is that BatterySpace SHOULD NOT have included cost of shipping in the declared value.

Note that, if the UPS brokerage acts as clearance agent for the purchaser, the purchaser will pay: 1) Entry preparation charges; 2) Bond Fees; 3) COD fee; 4) Brokerage PST; 5) taxes on the brokerage services. Some of surcharges may be saved where it is pre-paid by the shipper who collects at the time of the transaction.

When I order auto parts (often), it seems I am not charged brokerage fees. I had been informed by an international brokerage that there was no brokerage fees for values under $200 coming into Canada. Has to be something in the way the shipper arranges it. The value of this transaction was certainly less than $200 and, as far as UPS is concerned, they broker when values for personal shipments are over $20. Query though whether the less than $200 exemption is available for: a) non-"personal" shipments; or b) other couriers (eg Fedex).

I hope this post is constructive enough that BatterySpace will review and modify the international shipping process to avoid unnecessary cost to customers."

"Excellent quality battery, good prices. Charger works perfectly. I had to remove the nice outer rubber cover to fit the pack into the holder for my underwater camera lights. I will also get another connector and use the battery pack to power my telescope.
