"Hubby bought me an earring/necklace set for Christmas. One of the earrings did not clasp properly. I never even wore it. Called the company immediately and they told me to ship back AT MY EXPENSE! I questioned this business practice, saying that something was wrong. It was then that I was offered a pre-paid return label. Sent them back, hoping for a new pair. Disappointed to receive the same pair back, badly repaired Called again, told me to ship back. This time I requested a new pair. They said okay. Received them shortly...guess what? Same pair of earrings! You could see the patch. I called them back and told them they we would not be purchasing again. The young man was nice, but did not offer anything further. No one to this day has contacted me. Do your research and see how their business model works. You might be surprised."
"I bought a men's wedding band from Blue Nile. Guess what? They won't resize it. They don't make the rings. From what I can tell their business consists of a website that sells other company's products.
I can't return it, either, since I've worn it and it's been scratched. So now I have a very overpriced simple band that doesn't fit and that I can't return. "
"What a horrible experience! Placed an order on a very expensive item on Sunday. Paid by credit card. Meanwhile, I already warned credit card company to expect the charge and blue nile already had the charge authorized.
Got a call on Monday asking for my full first name. I provided. Rep went away for a moment then came back and told me that the company has made a policy change and no longer accepts credit cards! Meanwhile, their website says nothing of the sort. Rep tells me it's a business decision, etc. I can only pay by wire.
There is not a chance I would pay that kind of money without protection of a major credit card
I called back later and did not mention my name or my order. Asked what kind of payment methods they accepted. All credit cards, etc. I asked to speak to a supervisor who told me that sometimes they say that. Why? What triggered it? The fact that I did not provide my full first name? He told me that it is for " my protection" and it is a " business decision". I asked, so your policy is to lie to customers? "Well, you know, this is to protect you".
I an stunned. I am not sure what they are trying to protect me from, but with that kind of business practice I will not give them a penny of my business. No reputable company would have this kind of practice. "
"On the morning of 12/5/2012 I ordered a ring. A few hours later I called Blue Nile to cancel the order. I was told the payment would be immediately cancelled. Around 8pm on 12/5/2012 I received a shipping notice that my ring had shipped! I thought maybe it was just a computer glitch and didn't call immediately. On 12/6/2012 I received another email indicating my order had been delivered... There was no delivery at my home. On 12/7/2012 i checked my bank account and saw the charge for the ring. I immediately called Blue Nile and they told me my payment couldn't be "refunded" for up to a week even though I had called in to CANCEL the order and never actually received anything to return for a refund! It is now 6 days later and I am still out a LOT of money from Blue Nile. They said the shipping label was created 2 minutes before I called in to cancel the order which is why they are processing as a return. Regardless of their technology issues, I the customer should have never been charged for a ring that in fact never shipped and that I NEVER received.
Blue Nile is on the verge of ruining my 12/12/12 engagement plans. Thanks for nothing!"
"I LOVE my engagement ring from BlueNile! It has a brilliant marquise diamond set in a setting with 12 diamonds on either side of the center diamond. When it catches the light it's breathtaking. I'm very pleased, my fiance did very well. Additionally, some of the posters are complaining about some of the appraisers giving different ratings from the GIA report sent by bluenile, it's important to note that the scores given by the appraiser is relative, meaning that what is considered "excellenct" to one person may not be considered "excellent" to another. Any gemologist will tell you that the GIA reports are done this way, it's all based on the particular appraiser that looking at the diamond so don't get all bent out of shape if it's a bit different from the GIA report when you get a diamond appraised locally. As long as the diamond you purchased takes your breath away, that's all that matters. I would definitely refer others to BlueNile, you can get a great diamond at a much lower price than if you buy it in a store."
"I got a Mother's Day Living Social deal for Blue Nile and used it to buy a silver ring and matching earrings. Shipping was fast and it was packaged beautifully. I would definitely use them to buy jewelry of a simple design (this was a ring and earrings that looked like string tied in a bow). "
"udget diamonds simply saved me from Bluenile in every way. They SAVED me money and turned a terrible experience to a very positive one! It all stated when I was looking for a princess cut diamond and was recommended to Blueniles website. I finally picked out a diamond and ordered it from them to later receive a call notifying me that it was not longer available because there was a CHIP on it. So I picked another DIAMOND. I received it and realize it was a little to small for my liking so then I returned it back to BLUENILE and cost me $90 to do so (shipping and insurance). I then ordered a larger diamond from BLUENILE, 1.55 CT princess cut which was a TOTAL nightmare. I had made arrangements to propose in Vermont and arranged the diamond to be shipped to FEDEX in VT where I can pick it up and get it fitted right away in time for dinner and my proposal. I had BLUENILE ship it out on Thursday next day, and I was there Saturday with NO DIAMOND!. I should also mention that I made it VERY CLEAR with the rep at Bluenile that I needed it for Saturday and to ship SAT service if need be. Apparently it was never shipped!!! I was fuming, how could they be so careless?! So long story short I got the diamond shipped to another location again with a promise of a credit to make up for the cost I spent in preparing a proposal (see below on how that turned out). I got the diamond and what do you know...it has a chip and a feather right by on the corner. It was a VS1 and it should have been an SI2. So of course I was not pleased and sent it back to BLUENILE but had them pay for the shipping. I AGAIN started looking for another diamond and finally found a great one on the BLUENILE site but I decided to consider a local person to help me out this time. I reached out to BUDGET DIAMONDS and they found the EXACT same diamond (match GIA number) in San Fran CA,...and they beat the price by almost $500 and managed the whole process through. I left a deposit of $1000, they got the diamond, I went to see it, loved it, they had their jewellery put the diamond in and I was done! I should mention that fed ex did lose the package but Daniel from Budget Diamond was on top of it, he called me regularly with updates and presented me with other diamond options to be shipped JUST IN CASE the delay leaked over into my timeline (the following weekend). Turned out FEDex found the package and got it to us right in the nick of time. Remember the credit I was promised from BLUENILE...they were willing to offer $250. What a joke, I drove combined 4 hrs from MTL to Vermont, paid for hotel and dinner arrangements not to mention the emotional disappointment and that's what they offered on a 10k+ purchase!! I had a local jeweller find the EXACT same diamond, beat Bluenile by an EXTRA $250 of what BN credit would have been and they took care of me better than I could imagine. Lesson of this story, work with Budget Diamond in helping you buy the right ring/diamond. Shop around and what not but be sure to have Budget Diamond as an option. Daniel and Peter from Budget Diamond did a great job and without hesitation would refer anyone and everyone to them."
"Well...there goes my lunch money for the next five years. It's amazing to me that people actually rate this diamond mill with high ratings. My diamond in particular was square (ascher) cut and although the clarity and carat were correct, I got it appraised by a reputable gemologist in West LA who gave the color an "H" instead of the "G" I paid for. Also he appraised the cut as "fair" whereas I specifically ordered "very good". I'm currently trying to return the diamond, and have now resorted to using an attorney (!). Buyer Beware; never buy something this important online."
"I bought a engagement ring from BlueNile. I looked online for there rating and their product rating, ratings were pretty good some 3K+ review with 4.8 rating so I thought its a great place to buy.
Ring had tiny side diamond which looks pretty good in picture but not in reality. I wrote a review for ring and till date these people didn't even published my review on their website because my review rating were very low as I paid extremely high price for nothing.
Now I know why there rating is this high because they don't even publish low rating reviews.
It's been more then 4 months and every time I asked them about my review they say they are reviewing it."
"I ordered a necklace for my girlfriend's birthday. I ordered it around 4 PM yesterday, and it was here by 10 AM this morning. And for only $7.00! Packing was excellent, and the necklace is beautiful. I'll definitely buy from BlueNile again in future."
"I am very unhappy and highly disappointed with my last purchase with Blue Nile. I bought a pair of 14k yellow gold bangles on the 15th of January 2012. After having received the bangles I found them to be a bit big so I decided to return them for a full refund. I shipped the bangles back immediately the next day. They acknowledged that they received the bangles and that they would refund the money to my bank account within the next 3 days. After 10 days and no money in my account I started emailing them. Later they told me that the money was not transferred to my bank account but that they sent a draft check in foreign currency and if I don't receive it by the end of the week they will reissue another one. I still haven't heard from them whether they have sent me another draft. I sent them a couple of emails but no response as yet. It's been almost 2 months now and I haven't received my refund amount of SGD$800+. As time goes on and no emails I am getting more worried. It's seems like they have no intention to refund the amount. At first I had a very good immpression of them cause my earlier purchases went smoothly. Now when it comes to returning money they are giving me the runaround. When it comes to taking money they want it fast but for returning it they just couldn't be bothered. This whole episode has left a very sour taste in my mouth and I have this very sick feeling in my stomach that they might not refund my money. I would never buy from them anymore and never recommend them to anyone else. "
"I'm really stunned with the current reviews with Blue Nile.
My experience with them was top notch.
I was hesitant at first with buying an engagement ring online. So, I dug deep and researched their legitimacy. I found a lot of good stuff on them. Yes, there was some bad, but being as big as they are, you are going to run into that.
So I ordered the ring, and as promised, it was delivered on time.
I got all the proper paperwork and documentation on the ring.
Their 30 day money back guarantee made me comfortable enough to make the purchase.
I took the ring into a local jewelry story where I was able to test the diamond and look up the serial number that was laser inscribed on the girdle.
Everything passed with flying colors.
Even the jewelry story employees complimented on the quality of the diamond.
Through the purchasing process, the operators were extremely friendly and patient with the multitude of questions and concerns I had.
I feel I got a really good deal on the ring and can't wait to get down on one knee for my one true love with this gorgeous diamond. :-)"
"My shopping experience with BlueNile, especially their customer service, was/is horrible.
I purchased an Opal and diamond ring in 18k white gold for my wife for Mother's Day 2011, it's our new sons birthstone. Everything went fine with the transaction and receiving of the ring, she was very happy when we gave her the ring on Mother's Day. Well, she wore the ring every so often to gatherings, dinners, church, etc. One Sunday at mass she just so happened to look at the ring and noticed the Opal had fallen out, she got that sick feeling in her stomach. I told her not to worry and that I would call up BlueNile first thing Monday and get the ring fixed/replace because I was told BlueNile has excellent customer service....boy was I wrong!!!
I shipped the ring back via USPS overnight and insured for $1k, $25 in shipping charges. Well they received the ring and had their jewelers inspect the ring. Of course, saw it coming a mile away, they claimed my wife must have hit the ring on something caused the Opal to fall out. I can't argue, they are the pros, so they charge me $80 to replace the Opal and return the ring. I specifically ask how can a stone fall out, maybe they didn't use enough jewelry adhesive or whatever it's called. They respond that this ring does not use adhesive and the Opal is held in place by the 4 prongs, I accept their answer.
We receive the ring on a Friday night and my wife wears it to work the next Saturday. I receive a panicked call from my wife about an hour into her day saying the Opal had fallen out once again. Everyone in her office stopped what they were doing and luckily found the Opal. Once again we contact BlueNile and of course they want to see the ring for inspection. My wife has had enough, she is a bit more 'aggressive' than I, and she called and spoke to a supervisor that Saturday after she got home from work. Of course the supervisor agreed with my wife when she said it was ridiculous the Opal fell out once again after an hour of wearing it and she stated there was obviously a defect with the craftsmanship of the ring. BlueNile gave us an RMA and shipping instructions to return the ring.
About a week later we receive a call telling us that the reason the Opal fell out was due to not enough adhesive was used to hold the ring in the setting. I found this extremely amusing due to the fact I was told the Opal was held in place only by the 4 prongs the first time around. So my wife is now very skeptical of BlueNile and asks for a refund. BlueNile responds that they can't get a refund and they can either fix the ring once again and return or we can pick out another piece of jewelry. This is horrible customer service, obviously there is a defect in craftsmanship of the ring. My wife has plenty of jewelry and never had an issue with any stones falling out, let alone twice for the same ring!!! Also, we don't want another piece of jewelry, this was a Mother's Day gift for my wife for her first mother's Day after the birth of our first child. And why would we want them to 'fix' the ring again only for the Opal to fall out once again? My wife doesn't want to worry constantly about the Opal falling out when wearing the ring as well. I can guarantee if we bought from a local jeweler we would not be getting the run around we are getting from BlueNile.com at this time.
Be very wary of this online jewelry site, they are great if the product they sell doesn't have any issues, but prepare for battle if anything should happened to the piece. BlueNile's motto is definitely not 'The customer is Always Right!'

"The ring was lovely and shipped on time. Prices are great too. The only problem I had was that when the ring arrived, it some glue or something stuck in the cathedral portion between the diamond and setting. I think the cleaning process/quality control should have caught that....was a bit disappointing to see. I was going to take it to a local jeweler to have it cleaned out as I didnt have time to send it back. But I was finally able to break it out with a bit of force...kinda scary."
"I recently purchased my girlfriends engagement ring from bluenile and I am very pleased with my entire experience. I was a bit hesitant to buy such an expensive item off of the internet without actually being able to see it, but I after receiving the item I can say that I am very impressed with both the quality and the price that I paid.
I did an extensive amoutn of research and bluenile had the best prices and also had great customer service. There were other online retailers out there that also offered competative price, but when I starting looking into reviews on their business there were complaints regarding their customer service and order delivery. After calling bluenile and talking to the their customer service staff my worries were immediately put to rest. The customer service agent was not only polite and helpful, but was genuinely just a good person. I could tell right away that Bluenile was just trying to make a quick dollar by selling you a budget ring. I could tell they valued my complete satisfaction and would do whatever they needed ensure that I was pleased with my product.
As I said, I was a pretty skeptical about purchasing expensive jewelry from an online jeweler, but now I am completely sold on Bluenile. I will purchase from them again and will reccommend them to all of my friends."
