I put in my order quite late for a Canon 70-200IS L II (ordered Tuesday for a 3-day rental starting Friday, and specified one-day FedEx). After I ordered, I realized that it might turn out Very Badly. I fact, the lens arrived in perfect condition at 10:30am Friday, and I was shooting right on time at 7pm.
Shot the whole weekend, sent it back Monday AM, and got a nice email commending me on returning the lens in excellent condition.
Lens was spectacular. Rental was perfect. No issues with shipping either way (although I do recognize that I was stupidly lucky, given the tornadoes in the midwest).
Could it be different next time? Sure. But this time... Wonderful."

"I rented two Pocket Wizards to determine if I should purchase them. In the ordering process the company askes you to specify what cameras/flashes you are using them with so they can provide the correct cord. I did so but was given the wrong cord. So I literally could not use them and it ended up being a complete waste of $75. Very disappointing."
"I normally rent from a Competitor but the equipment I needed was unavailable. The cost was a little more than I normally pay (especially shipping from within the same state) but I really needed the gear.
My gear arrived in a rather large box. I've rented the same exact gear from Competitor and it came in a smaller box, hence the lower shipping cost perhaps.
I was surprised to see that the lens was just wrapped in a ziplock bag. Competitor usually sends lenses wrapped in plastic wrap within a lens pouch. I had also rented a Flash Unit. Competitor went as far as to provide instructions for the Flash Unit. Borrow Lenses did not.
I returned my package on the date specified. The next day I get an email because Borrow Lenses can not track the package. I provided the Customer Service Rep a copy of my receipt showing the date and time that I delivered my package to my local authorized shipper. They still couldn't track the package.
Once I returned from being out of town, I contacted my shipper. It took her over an hour to contact the shipper to find out what was going on. Long story short, there was an issue with the shipper.
I just got an email from Borrow Lenses stating that they received the package a day late. And since this was my first time, they were just going to charge me for an extension and not their usual late charges.
I am extremely upset because they received the package late due to the shipper's error and not negligence on my part. I will not be renting equipment from Borrow Lenses again.
I will have to say that the person in Customer Service was extremely helpful when they initially contacted me regarding the package.

"Well, I used to think highly of this company til this last rental period. I paid to pick the lens up instead of shipping. The people at the place were HORRIBLE. They were rude, tried to tell me my pick-up date was a day earlier than the paperwork for the reservation. They were rude and sarcastic. First of all, they never greeted me nor acknowledge I was even standing at their counter for 14 minutes. No hello, just "your here because?", then the phone rang and as I was telling them I was here to pick up a lens, they turned around and answered without saying "hold on", "excuse me", etc. Then I found out my flight was xl, next flight I was on was over my return date, so I emailed BL immediately telling them my position even offering to return it and cancel my rental if they needed it on the current due date. They said they could extend it one day for such and such amount, but would have to charge an extra day even though there really wasn't a second extra day. So whatever, I said ok charge me the extra amt. I just wanted to use the lens if I could. Then I started getting emails telling me the rental was due back the day before the due date. They then told me a conversation never took place, but I had the emails to prove. After hours of conversations, and returning it on time, I still got hassled by customer service at BL & had to forward all the emails from the day I picked up the lens regarding the situation, asking for ext, etc. Why should one have to go through all this and never once did I receive, "oh, I am sorry, I forgot or whatever". Just "i will charge you this or that but you are a day late as it was never extended", etc. Geez! Get with it you guys! I will never return to them, I will stop referring people and suggest you think twice before you rent from them especially when lensrentals.com is EXCELLENT and NEVER in the years I have rented from them have any kind of a horrible, stressful situation as I have had this past week with BL. Lets see what the charges this company decides to give me due to their ignorance!"

"I rented several lenses and a Canon T3i (pick up Thursday, return Monday). The purpose of the rental was to see if my wife was comfortable with the lenses and body so that we could decide if we should purchase them. The Tamron 18 to 270mm I ordered was not available and a Tamron 28 to 300mm was offered as a substitute. They agreed to call us when the lens arrived so we could swap it out for the 18 to 270mm so we stayed in the area.
Result:
1. No one called ahead of time to tell us there was a problem.
2. No call about the lens until after they closed Saturday. I found out when I returned the body and lenses that since the 18 to 270mm did not come in Friday there would not have swapped in out Saturday so no need to stay in the area Saturday.
3. They did comp a 2nd battery
4. We will have to rent again to decide if we want to purchase the 18 to 270mm lens.
While it was not BorrowLens fault that the 18 to 270mm lens was not returned on time and their people said they were sorry it, it was clear they did not see it as their issue, it was somebody else's fault. No responsibility to call us ahead of time when the lens did not show up. "
