"Carfax and Autocheck reports were very different and when I confronted Carfax they claimed to investigate by obtaining an Autocheck report. They wouldn't discuss any differences in the reports and simply restated in several emails there sources were reliable. No verification, no comparison no discussion. My opinion of Carfax is you can't rely on them for accurate information or help if you need it. Thy took my $39 and ran. Disclaimer at bottom of report tells you they do NOT take responsibility for errors or omissions.."
"CARFAX IS A SCAM! I recently purchased a truck and ran a Carfax report. Carfax reported ZERO COLLISIONS. Had the truth been reported, this vehicle would have not been a consideration. Upon receiving my title, I contacted the original owner and was told he had hit a deer with the front end and had been rear ended another time. Neither Carfax nor the seller disclosed this information.
When I contacted Carfax, I was told there is a disclaimer at the bottom of the page stating they are not liable for their reporting which means their reports are worthless.
I am currently trying to file a claim with the BBB but am told because of their disclaimer, what they are doing is not against the law.
CARFAX HOLD NO LIABILITY FOR THE INFORMATION THEY REPORT SO IT IS YOU, THE CONSUMER, WHO PAYS FOR A WORTHLESS REPORT.
Businesses here in our area boast Carfax reports. Now I know the truth and others should know also. This company should be forced out of business.
Disgusted."
"Carfax offer defaults to "unlimited" reports. However, this is not unlimited VIN it is only unlimited by plate number. Don't be fooled. The offers are 1. (1) report 2. (5) reports 3. unlimited by plate NOT Vin number. You can cancel after receiving 2 reports. So if you want to get two FREE reports, activate the unlimited service but then cancel it after opening only 2 reports.
Also read other reviews where the reports are not helpful and may not report serious issues with the vehicle you are interested in. In fact, a vehicle I purchased new had 5000 miles at first reported service. However, carfax reported this as 50,000 miles. I ended up purchasing a vehicle that showed a clean report but actually had major damage to the passenger side. Replacing a cracked headlight alone cost me $1000. In addition, carfax does not offer a phone number to call for addressing your customer service issues. GOOD LUCK"
"I honestly don't know how Carfax is still in business and they can still afford all the advertising they do. They charge $35 for a single report and $45 for five reports! If someone is smart enough to get a full VIN check when buying a used car, why aren't they smart enough to comparison shop for VIN history providers? A quick search reveals at least three competitors with lower prices (checkthatvin.com, autocheck.com and instavin.com) I don't know what they charge dealerships, but Carfax is and has always been the most expensive in the industry for individuals.
AutoCheck is raising its prices almost as fast, but at least they still offer unlimited VIN checks for a certain number of days. The last time I shopped for a used car I searched 26 VIN reports using AutoCheck. That would cost me over $200 with Carfax. The unlimited reports service allowed me to identify a used car dealer that was listing cars with rebuilt titles and not telling consumers (Joe Ross Used Cars). Had I had a finite number of VIN checks I certainly wouldn't have wasted any more on investigating after the seller didn't tell me about the rebuilt title on the first car I contacted him about. And had I driven to the dealership (over 200 miles away) and asked for a free VIN report, which Carfax gave as a reason they don't offer unlimited reports, I would have wasted a day and spent a lot of money on gas.
When I emailed Carfax customer service to ask why they no longer offer an unlimited report option, I will give them credit for answering my email the next day, but the reason they gave is flawed. Bottom line, this review is to warn consumers before getting a raw deal, and Carfax gives a raw deal."
