"I chose cellomobile based on the ratings I found and on the cost/day for usage. I used one of their phones for two weeks in Hungary, and it worked flawlessly, including phone calls, SMS, PDA-type data and alarm clock function.

Be aware that you can order the phone well ahead of the time you need to use it overseas (I wasn't, and needed to pay a small premium to expedite shipping). You can call the phone while you're still in the US in order to test it (even if you don't order a US number with the phone), which will also let you know what the ring tone sounds like (I had thought mine was a radio broadcast that had gotten stuck, until I remembered I had a different phone). The number you get may not be a local Hungarian number (I think mine was a UK number), so be sure to take along the (detailed) instructions provided on how to dial it from a local phone in the nation you're visiting.

"I shopped around quite a bit for a reputable mobile phone rental company for our trip to South Africa. Prices varied dramatically from one website to the next. I had read a few good reviews about Cello Mobile and noticed their prices were some of the best offered. I went ahead and rented a phone for our 18 day trip.

Within a few days of placing my order, I received a small package including my phone, charger, country-appropriate electric outlet adapter, return shipping label, and instructions for making calls. The phone looked brand new as well.

During our trip, the phone worked flawlessly. The instruction sheet came in very handy as figuring out the South Africa dialing system was a bit tricky. With some help from friends along with the instructions, we deciphered the nuances of using the phone to call internationally, domestically to mobile and land lines (different prefixes), and receive calls.

Upon our return home, I repackaged the phone, stuck on the return label, and received my final bill via email about 3 days later. No hidden charges and the total was just what I was expecting.
