"Worst experience ever. They have a large range of products but their prices are usually high. Staff is the worst of the worst and they have no place in Central Florida. As a photographer and Disabled Veteran I have never been treated so poorly.
My first visit there was to get familiar with the staff and their products. I wanted to create a bond with the staff where they would get to know me since I was planning to visit often. I had an uneasy feeling the whole time I was there, very uncomfortable and I could not pinpoint what it was. I found the staff very hesitant to help me and very cold. Like if they were upset or had a bad day.
Second visit was with my teenage Son. Same thing, uncomfortable, uneasy feeling. I even overheard one of their staff tell another to watch those guys there. I thought it was someone else and did not give much thought to the comment. I ended buying a couple inexpensive items.
My Third and last visit there. The comment from the last visit was still lingering in my head so I decided to give these guys the benefit of the doubt. Same thing. And this time I was paying more attention. I caught them watching over me every time I turned around. So there is an issue here.
I looked around the internet and seems I'm not the only one. They have been accused by other customers of being suspicious of young people and minorities. They have even been called Nazis by others in different forums. I regret I spent a dime there. I feel these guys are probably happy I or minorities never return. I hope more people speak up and less people shop there. "
"I was in Orlando for the weekend and had decided not to take my DSLR and lenses since I figured that they would not be allowed into certain venues. After arriving, however, I regretted not having a camera and looked around to see which store had a Canon G9 in stock. Colonial Photo and Hobby were the only ones in the area, and after a short walk, I arrived at their location. Their online presence is weak, and you'll need to call to see what they have in stock, but once you step inside, the store offers a wide selection of professional gear. I saw a Canon 1D Mark III as well as some medium-format cameras. I knew what I wanted and did not need to ask many questions, but the staff seemed knowledgeable. I have had my camera for a couple weeks now, and everything is fine.
A note: According to the salesman, there are no refunds or exchanges, but my camera was new-in-box and had the full manufacturer's warranty. Not exactly a generous return policy, but I "needed" the camera and decided to take a chance. The receipt, however, seems to indicate a 30 day return policy so long as everything is in "like-new" condition, with defective merchandise covered by the manufacturer.
The price was reasonable, but the key thing was the selection. If you need something soon, give them a try. The place is not as slick as the big stores like B&H, but they might have what you need when you need it. "
