After checking the latest inventory (important), and found that they had it in stock, I ordered it Sunday Oct. 3 and it was at my house by 5pm Tues Oct. 5. Great turn around time. The one drawback is that the confimation email with details about the order and tracking number arrived AFTER I got the PC, and this can make people understandably nervous. "I did thorough research to find a netbook with a matte (non-glare non-glossy) screen for my colleague and friend. Every review of the S10 says it has a matte screen, and no description from any reseller indicated otherwise. Later variations with glossy screens were given new names: S10e, S10-2, and S10-3.
My friend has eye problems and cannot use a glossy screen. I also cannot use one for the same reason. After reading all the reviews and learning that the S10 has a matte screen, I went to online and found a list of companies still offering the S10. One of them was CostCentral. So my colleague wrote a check and I placed the order with my credit card.
When I received the machine I opened it to find a glossy screen. I called CostCentral and was told that I cannot return the item and would have to call Lenovo and ask for a case number.
Lenovo told me that they cannot work with me at all concerning the S10 because it was purchased through a 3rd party.
I called CostCentral again and was told that Lenovo does not allow them to accept returns unless an item is defective and even if it is defective it is difficult to return the item.
I had offered to pay the restocking fee of 15% and was told I would have to wait three days to find out if I would be eligible for an RMA. It has been more than three days and I have not received the e-mail I was promised.
Lenovo introduced a product to the market called the S10 with a specific seat of features, including a matte screen. Every review that discussed the display said it has a matte screen. Lenovo introduced variations on the S10 with different names: S10e, S10-2, and S10-3. From my research, I learned that if I wanted a matte screen I had to get the original S10 model.
CostCentral has a return policy on its website that says it won't accept Lenovo returns at all, whether they're defective or not.
Lenovo says returns must go through the 3rd party reseller. So, the customer is put into an impossible situation.
Well, a glossy screen is a defect given that the product was deceptively not renamed and every review online says it should have a matte screen.
My friend cannot use the machine so I am stuck with it and I can't use it either because my prescription is so high I can't use a glossy screen without getting terrible headaches. So I am left with a $278 product that I can't afford because I am a poor college student and which I can't return, even by spending 15%.
I am extremely disappointed and will only be buying products from my local computer store in the future, as it accepts returns, with no hassling and no impossible no-return situations."
