"Tried to buy dental insurance, ended up with dentaquest through dentalplans.com. Was unable to make any appointments, could not find any person on the phone to talk to to resolve the situation. They are glad to take your money, but not to provide you good service. Felt like I was being scammed and probably was."
"It's funny how you can't get through to do a revew on their website it give you an error. Do not recommend bad experience. Just ask your dentist for a discount and don't waste your money."
"We didn't save a dime with them. We then cancelled our plan. They said we got a refund. They sent us a check and we deposited it into our account. Then a few days later they took the money back out and I was charged a $10 fee on top of it. When I called in they said they had no record of this. "
"I randomly started reviving calls from this place last month. I blocked every single number that has called from there, & yet they STILL CALL & are beginning to be a nuisance. Like, go away."
"We bought the CVS iSave Plan. We bought this plan primarily because our dentist was listed as a provider, and it sounded good on paper. However, our dentist said she had discontinued it . We called many of the providers listed and most said they no longer were providers for the plan. Both of the providers that did accept had standing discount packages that did not require the card. For us, it has been a waste of money."
"I saved over $2,000 in the last year with my dental plan from DentalPlans.com. It has been a better fit for my family than other plans we have tried in the past.
"
"I selected a dentist from their website which clearly showed that the whole dental office with multiple dentists accepted my savings plan. When I got to the dentist, they said they could not accept it and mentioned that these types of savings plans are garbage.
I called up DentalPlans.com to request a refund and they would not even give me a partial refund since it was past their trial period. I did not get to use this even once. This is nothing but a scam. Do not pay these people. "
"I have used Dentalplans. Their website said my dentist used the plan I bought. I went to my dentist and they said they have not taken it for years. After spending a few hours reading reviews on multiple sites, combined with my own direct experience, these things seem to be true (DP cannot refute these, but they will produce gobs and gobs of double-speak to hide these facts.)
1. The DP listings are clearly not updated. Many, many report dentists are listed at DP, but the dentist office says not or even never. My experience also corroborates this. Unless they are doing all this by pencil and paper, this kind of updating should happen regularly. They should have contracts with dentists and if the dentist does not renew the contract, they should come off the list immediately.
2. DP could tell you, before you buy, the exact negotiated discount for a particular dentist, procedure, and plan. But, they won't. If you call them (this could literally take hours), they will tell you. If they posted this information, you could make an informed decision in real time about which plan to get and which dentist(s) to use. Instead, they publish "general" prices that many people seem to find are not actually available. I picked a dentist, procedure, and plan and asked. The DP site said the "general" discount to expect was 45%. I called the dentist. It was 15%. These are facts and seem to match many, many people's experience.
This is deceptive. They could give you all the details before you buy. They could. But, they won't. You could find out the dentist and plan with the best discounts in your area. But, you can't. They have that information readily available. But, they will not share it with you. You have to call and ask about this dentist and this procedure (wait) and then that dentist and that procedure (wait) and then ... You get the idea. AND!! Of course, you have to call each of these dentists and confirm all of these things, because many of the dentists will no longer use DP (again, these reports are everywhere). Of course, if they revealed this actual information, you could see if the "general" discounts were reflected in the actual discounts offered by dentists in your area. You could also present this information to a particular dentist and see if it is true. Is there some reason they don't want you to have this information so you can make an informed choice.
I have read many of DPs responses and it is all double-speak about how much they care, how hard they work to ensure things are updated, how they really have no control over anything (although they actually have 100% of the information), how "general" discounts are all they can provide (that's just plain false if you specify the dentist, procedure, and plan), and blah, blah. If they were just honest (and stayed accurate) about what you are buying, a lot of the complaints would go away. But, they have little interest in being honest or accurate, because people would see it's not such a great deal. OR... if it is such a great deal, then they would multiply their business by 500% by showing the exact discounts, which they know. "
"So I was sold on this plan that was supposed to save me money. It lists a lot of "participating" dentists. My dentists, who were listed, DO NOT PARTICIPATE. I even had seen an orthodontist on there and thought wow, this will save me some dough..nope. If you look at an orthodontist that is named, and look at fees, you will see that they are listed as a regular dentist...total false advertising. Save your money and find something else to help you save money. Also, if you have a dentist you're already seeing, please ask them if they take whatever plan (somewhere other than this ripoff joint) BEFORE you see them."
"When I was looking at discount dental plans, they showed me about 5 dentists in my zip code area who took the Cigna program, so I purchased this program for my family, when I contacted these dentists, all of them denied accepting this program, so then I looked into cancelling my membership as they offer a 30 day refund, but guess what, you are not able to find this function on their web site. Now, when I enter my zip code into their locator, it comes back none. My thirty days have now expired and I will be filing a complaint with our state insurance commissioner."
"I currently have the DP Complete Care Plan , I needed three fillings and a panoramic film which in total was going to cost me around $1180.00 , with my plan which is powered by Aetna I only paid $460.00 , it was amazing ! I saved $720.00. These plans are awesome , once you find a dentist in network your plan will pay for it's self in one visit ! These plans in most cases are much more affordable than dental insurance , with no waiting , no yearly max, and most plans will give you coverage on anything. Insurance plans are very limited and super expensive! Most people believe that insurance covers you at 100 % on most things and it doesn't, with the savings plan you get the perks of the insurance without the hassle! I love this plan , and my plan comes with teledoc services , which is also amazing I save money on dental and health expenses ! My teledoc services provides me with unlimited use and connects me with a doctor who can help me with colds, rashes, etc. Great for my children saves me the time && money of having to go to the doctor for something simple ."
"You save literally nothing. My cleaning and xrays were $200 at the dentist, which was only $220 without insurance. I only saved $10 on a $180 filling and $10 on a $200 filing. I figure I save $40 over the year and paid $120 for the plan. Get real dental insurance and you'll save real money. This discount plan is a ripoff. In my case, Cigna made $120 off of me for nothing."
"I cancelled within 2 weeks since there was a mix up with my employer insurance since they said no at first and then yes i have insurance with them. So called to cancel with dentalplans within 2 weeks of signing up and they said its their policy to charge $20 admin fee. That wasnt mentioned to me when I signed up and I havent use 1 bit of their plan. I dont think I will use this company again since who knows what other hidden charges, etc I will be charged. So thanks but no thanks. I hope people who reads this post will try so see I am real person and when I say be very careful dealing with this company they will take my advice into consideration."
"I bought the Careington Care 500 series, which came to $165 (including fees) for the year. I needed a crown which would have cost me $1,000 since my insurance is only preventative coverage. With the discount plan I paid $562, so huge savings. I read some bad reviews about certain things not being covered and dentists listed who do not accept the discount plan as the site claims they do, so before I bought the plan I did my homework. I called my dentist make sure they accept the plan. I also asked for the exact ADA/procedure codes of the procedures I needed to get done, and then called Dental Plans to make sure they were covered. It all checked out to my delight.
I would highly recommend this discount plan. Just Don't forget to tell your dentist your member ID number when you make the appointment, and make sure the procedures you need to have done are covered, it's pretty simple. I still have to get a post and crown on another tooth, which will be about $160 and $560 respectively with the discount plan. (about $1,500 without it) I don't know how I would have been able to pay for all of this dental work without the plan.
I also read that they will renew your subscription without asking and just charge your card, so I made sure I logged into my account, went into "renewal preferences" and selected the "contact me prior to my renewal" option.
The only bummer is that I just checked, and the plan I bought last week is now 20% off. I wish I knew or I would have waited a week! I doubt they will do anything for me, but just to make sure, I'm going to call and see if they will reimburse part of it. You never know!"
"I don't usually write reviews, but feel obligated to balance the negative reviews here. We are starting our second year of Careington Family Plan - $200/year - So far we have saved about 3x that. My dentist recommended the Careington plan so I knew he took it. The savings on the crown I had that year paid for the Careington plan. A local well-reviewed eye practice also takes it - that saved us some money. I was referred to a periodontist - he also participates, saved $400 on that procedure. So far it seems like a reasonable plan, not a rip-off. Personally, I think we should have universal health care including dental but since we don't I'll settle for Careington."

“Hi Nita - thank you for bringing this to our attention. We are sorry you had some trouble using your dental savings plan at your dentist.
