"Service was very poor. Does not answer e-mails and no adivce on deivery times given even when issue was being resolved by Paypal"
"Made good on defective merchandise, but wouldn't pay for return shipping . . .
Discount Tommy's shipped me two safes. The first one would not open and the second one I was able to open after turning it upside down which triggered a loose part inside to release and allow me to turn the knob to open it.
For the first safe, because I was a couple days past the 30-day return policy, they would not [ay for return shipping. They did send me a label after sending me a Paypal invoice for it. I returned the first safe which cost me about $22 for the label. The second safe arrived and it had another lock mechanism problem as well. I was finally able to open the safe and tighten some of the loose inner parts with made the safe now reliable to open. Haven't had a problem with the safe since, but should the customer have to contend with product that is not quality control checked before being shipped or so prone to shipping damage. I wrote to them, sent a photo of the suspect parts. They responded kindly and asked if I was still having problems with the second safe. I think their return policy on not providing shipping and sending two problem units is what's got me writing this negative review. I feel that if a product is broken, then their return policy or warranty should apply and include the return shipping. They don't want to do that and fought with me on the shipping. You can tell me all you want that their return policy is clearly spelled out, but when an item like a safe won't even let you open it without heroics, I expect better. It's no doubt I am not a fan of Discount-Tommy's and there are plenty of other vendors to choose from. Their customer service was respectful and really dug in over their return policy without any flexibility, which should make the owner of the company proud. By the way, I overpaid for the return label because when I check my rate with the shipping company (who I won't mention), I would have saved about 60% over what they billed me for the return label. Buyer beware - better yet - - - just shop somewhere else."
"On May 7, 2015 I ordered a supposedly new Paragon 7801 Electronic Digital Lock and Safe . As soon as the safe arrived, I not only found a small dent on top of the safe but it also did not come with its original box. Inside of the safe there was some rust-like substance and the safe itself apparently had no series number on it (it was not on the product page online either). I suspected that the seller had "accidentally" given me one of their used items (I repeat I wanted a brand new product), so I contacted them a few times and asked them SPECIFICALLY about the safe's condition. Even though they replied to my emails, not once did they even say a word about the product's condition itself. I told them I wasn't happy about the product's condition....because it was damaged and obviously not brand new. And when I wanted to return it because of my obvious dissatisfaction, the seller refused to send me a return shipping label. Discount Tommy is disgustingly unprofessional, dishonest, and disrespectful to their customers. Please be aware of this seller when you are ordering any products from them. You might not get what you pay for."
"Wow. So disappointed. Bought a dog cage and it came defective. Apparently if I return it, I pay for shippping and 20% of the cost. Hell that's basically buying another cage. Never will do business again"
"I purchased a counter top electric pop corn popper and must say I'm impressed! My purchase price was excellent and the shipping was even better. It took only a few days for my item to arrive and when it did it was EXACTLY what I expected. Pops fast and evenly and it gives me the option of whether I want butter or not unlike the microwave kind. I would definitely do business with them again! Thank you for outstanding customer service too!"
"I purchased a Great Northern Red Antique popcorn machine from Discount Tommy. The popper was delivered and shipped really fast. They even helped me with questions on how to set it up! I couldn't be happier with my fancy popcorn machine and the great service I received. Even saved a few hundred dollars off retail. Five stars all the way!"
"I bought an auction from them that didn't have its free shipping cost listed so I couldn't checkout and pay for it. I immediately requested a total and after a day of waiting sent them a message them and asked for the invoice. They told me they would send one through paypal. They never did but instead opened an unpaid item dispute against me.
That wasn't nice so I then asked to cancel the purchase because it wouldn't arrive in time. I only bought from them because they were the closest seller. They replied that they cancelled it for me.
A day later it still wasn't cancelled so I again another time. Once more they said it was cancelled and I'd have to accept the mutual agreement to cancel the sale. Great, they understand how this works! However, that was never sent either but that eBay unpaid item claim sure was and came due.
I now have an unpaid item mark on my account and can't leave them feedback. At no time was I able to pay for the auction because they never provided an invoice with a shipping cost. Their customer service either lied to me multiple times or is wholly incompetent. Avoid this company like the plague."
"After being a good $1000.00 repeat customer over the past few years, I had an issue with my most recent purchase. Before I opened the box, I contacted customer service. I might have been ok with their response if they had been truthful with me, but the customer service person outright lied to me to make her case better. I then opened the box and found that the item was also defective and did not work. If you deal with this vendor you might get lucky and get a good item. However, if there is an issue or a problem I am confident that you will not be happy with their customer service. I know that I will no longer be one of their customers. I also have stopped referring people to them. I feel that my reputation is at stake also. I don't want to be in a position where I have referred a friend to a company that will do them wrong. "
"I purchased an in wall safe. The item arrived and I tested the keypad. It did not work when following the directions. I contacted them and they sent me a new keypad. The new keypad did not work so they then sent me a new control board. That also did not work. Keep in mind it took 3 weeks for each new part to arrive. Then they wanted to send me a new solenoid. This also did not work. I asked if I could return the item and they said it could not be returned because it had been over 30 days. I highly recommend finding another business for any electronic items, especially one as permanent as needing installation into your sheet rock."
"Placed an order (Stove Top Popcorn Popper) on Monday (1/7) and selected the "FedEx Home Delivery" option since that would get it to me before the weekend (when I needed it). It even shows the FHD on my receipt. When it was shipped, I noticed the tracking info listed the service as the slow-as-molasses FedEx SmartPost. Emailed them to ask why it was changed, and they gave some lame reason about "they determine the shipping method based on the weight". WTH? What happened to ME selecting the shipping method? No where did it say anything about that beforehand. Now, 9 days later, it's finally showing as scheduled for delivery on 1/18.
10 days? Really? I get stuff from China in that amount of time!
I certainly won't be ordering from them again. It's not worth saving a dollar or two when you need something in less than 2 weeks."
"I ordered an in-wall safe on Monday. Although the price was great, they charged no FedEx shipping. It was shipped the next morning. I knew what was happening every step. I had it by Thursday, as promised! So let's review
-- great prices
-- awesome delivery
-- excellent communication
Any questions? I would gladly order again from them. Thanks much."
"Great all around service. Very Happy Customer. "
"Discount Tommy's products are inexpensive compared other sights. The GREAT NORTHERN ELECTRIC HAWAIIAN SHAVED ICE MACHINE / SHAVER isn't worth the effort & money... your better off getting a cubed ice machine. My machine shakes when in use & I have to ship it to get it inspected under warranty. They're 60lbs & I have 2 so Im worried about the shipping cost.
The vortex machines spin cotton candy well but the tires cannot be inflated in the US, they're made in China & they have no air pump here that will fit. You have to ship your tires if they deflate. The bubble lids are hard plastic & crack while transporting them, as I purchased mine for business.
Discount Tommy doesn't post negative reviews so be aware of that! And they'll crop your review to show only the good details. The symbol [...] that they use isn't only for prices & other retailer's names, they use it to cut out most of your review.
They never answer the phone so you'll have to email them and wait for a reply the next day...then you reply & they reply the next day. It takes day to reach a resolution that may not be what you're looking for.
All of my equipment delivered with some type of damage it was apparent that it was caused from they way they are packaged and stored at their warehouse but in order to send them back you had to complain to UPS (the delivery carrier in my area) and have them investigate to see if it was there fault. I bought 2 & 3 items of the same model and each item had the same damages (dents, scratches and peeled paint)
If you're on a strict budget like I was, I'd purchase the items. But if you have the money for the better brands, I'd choose differently.

"I ordered the Red Princeton 8oz popcorn maker to take to a copmpany trade show. It wouldn't even get hot enough to pop the popcorn and the gears kept jumping apart from each other. Discount Tommy wanted to send me parts so that I could repair the defects. I sent the machine and popcorn (a $293 order)back to them at my expense of $89.98 for a total of $382 and all they credited my card was $ 164. This was the worst online purchase I've ever made in my life. I would never ever do business with this company again."
"This seller was discovered via their eBay venue for an item that was insanely well priced (when won), and included free shipping.
(It should be noted that different companies handle their eBay accounts differently, along with item pricing. For instance, eBags doesn't have drastically different prices--although their site can be better with the constant deluge of deals, making it three-times better. And Buy.com is generally a toss-up between what you find on eBay and on their site; it's always best to check both with them. With DiscountTommy.com, I was able to get a cheaper price for an already well-discounted item (on their site), and would have had a sweeter deal had there not been so many other bidders!)
Nevertheless... post-auction win, they had an automated confirmation email that was sent from outside of eBay, i.e., their own server. And fortunately--for the sake of this post, there was a screw-up with their order/payment form, so I was forced to get in touch with their customer service.
Their response was very prompt, courteous, and coherent; it seemed that I was speaking to a professional sales rep based on the tone, so I was able to finish payment of the item through other channels.
They shipped quickly enough, and a tracking number was provided. When received, the item box was shipped "as is" without a second layer of packaging, and was thus, a little tattered... but the contents inside were pristine. I'm not sure how they ship much more fragile items, but if there's a second purchase, this post gets an update.
Recommended!"
