"I have ordered two IDE hard drives from DriveGuys.com thus far, and they are both quality drives and both are still running without a hitch. I am about ready to order a new one for myself as I am graduating from PATA to SATA and I have yet to find anywhere else that offers as wide a range of drives as well as low prices.
As for the customer support, my only complaint is no toll free #. However, after I placed my last order, a representative called me at home to tell me that the drive I had originally ordered was no longer in stock but they would send one of better quality and eat the difference in price if I preferred. I preferred and the drive arrived two days later. To me, that is excellent customer service and is why I will buy drives for them exclusively, whether for myself or a client."
"Drive Guys is by far the worst company I have ever dealt with. In the beginning of February 2006 we had a drive in one of our employees laptop crash, erasing all of her research and IMPORTANT doc. We sent our hard drive to this company (BIG MISTAKE) and all they could do is restore 5% of the data. They even say on their website if they can't restore it, no charge, well they charged us $400 for 5% of the data. We gave them a second chance to try to restore more of the data (we believe in second chances here), 3 weeks went by didn’t hear from them, so we called them. Every time we called to see what the status was, the owner Kevin would promise someone would call back. NO ONE EVER CALLS BACK... You would think being an owner of a company you would want to keep your customers satisfied or at least you would know how to run a business. It is now April 6th, 2006 and after weeks and days of frustration I finally got an answer from them (only because I had to call and threaten them with our lawyers) they could not restore the drive and it should be on it's way back to our office. Plus they claim they will be refunding our Credit Card of the $400 they took. I'm hoping this time they will stick to their word and actually give us some kind of feedback. If I were you I would defiantly read all these testimonials from the consumers before even thinking about using this company. I wish we would have! THIS COMPANY IS NOTHING BUT STRESS! WALK AWAY NOW! "
"I purchased a drive for an awsome price.
The drive ended up not being what I needed. Drive guys customer service was great to work with. They refunded my money and paid the shipping to return the drive.
Driveguys only sells refurbished drives, so as long as you understand your warranty limitations, I would reccomend this store. "
"No stock info on their website. when I ordered it, they charged my credit card right away. Several hours later I received an email stating that the Hard drives I ordered were out of stock & that they were going to cancel my order & remove the credit card authorization.
My beef - why charge my card & then tell me there is no stock?? Why not have up to the minute stock info on your website like every other business? I'll never order from them again..."
"Drives never shipped. Web says 56 in stock. Waited 3 weeks they raised the price still no drives. Sent several E mails not one answer. Called told out of stock then we got them in they are being tested. Called and cancled order. Stay away form these guys they are not up front nor do they have any kind of customer service."
"I purchased a used 36.7GB SCSI-Wide 10K, Quantum hard drive, from “Driveguys.com,” for my business. I installed the drive without any difficulty. Within two months (within my 90 warranty) it failed to boot. My computer was unable to recognize the drive. Since this was my primary drive I was unable to run my computer. I immediately called “Driveguys.com” at ***-***-****). The phone attendant transferred me to David; David rushed me off the phone and told me Josh would call me back. I waited about an hour, Josh did not call back. When I called to speak to Josh; Josh was very abrupt, he told me to call a data recovery firm that would charge me thousands of dollars to recovery my information, I declined so he hung up. I decided to call back to get the number, Josh gave it to me. The data recovery person claimed it would be between $500- $2800 to recovery any information from this drive. I decided to return it because it was still under warranty. When I called back, Josh abruptly told me to speak to David regarding an RMA. David just referred me to the website. I asked David “what was the process by which I could return this drive and get another, from another manufacturer.” David claimed he didn’t know. So I asked to speak to someone who did. David claimed I couldn’t talk to anyone else. That he was the only person in charge of RMA’s. He once again referred me to the website, “it’s on the website, it’s on the website, it’s on the website!!!” By this time I didn’t know what to think. I believe they might be very busy and didn’t want to deal with customers. Both where abrupt, rude and harsh I will not do business with “Driveguys.com” or any of there affiliates again. I received a defective product and was treated poorly, granted I’m still within my 90 day warranty, I could imagine how they treat customers outside there warranty.
I’ve decided to call the manufacturer to replace this defective harddrive."
"Misleading advertising. I bought a drive listed in the main section of pricwatch.com, which is reserved for new merchandise only, as pricewatch.com has a separate section for used goods. Neither the ad, website, nor invoice gave any indication that the drive was used, but it obviously was. It was scratched and grubby, and it malfunctioned from the word go. Loud screeching and crackling noises like, data corruption, etc.
Trying to get customer service to respond is like pulling teeth, and even then it took weeks of emails to get any action. I'm still waiting for my return shipping expense to be reimbursed.
Never once did customer service apologize or acknowledge my specific complaints. I received no indication that this was a mixup or misunderstanding, but after reading the complaints on this site, I realize that this is just the way they do business. They sell on eBay as well as "driveguys", with at least one complaint there about misrepresentation as well."
"DO NOT I repeat DO NOT order from this company. They sell refurbished drives. They don't say this in their catalog. The 30gb drive I ordered lasted exactly 4 hours now it only reads to be a 2 gig drive. They're return policy is virtually non existant. "
"Product was in perfect working order, although it was not shipped in original box and did not include any instructions or extra hardware.(screws/IDE cables)"
"Horrible failure rate (~25%) with ordered products.
1rst shipment: 20/40 HD failed.
2nd shipment: 13/20 of the replacements failed, several were DOA, wouldn't even power up.
3rd shipment: 4/13 of those replacements failed.
Many of the failed drives had obvious problems (ie- rattling and grinding when booting). Find it hard to that these drives were tested as rigorously as Driveguys claimed.
And with each replacement cycle, the capacity shrunk. Started out w/ 15GB drives, then 13GB, then 10GB.
Also, if you're selling to them, wipe your drives first. A lot of the drives we received still had the original data on them.
And they lost a return shipment too. Claimed they never got a set of drives I RMA'ed. Was able to get a UPS tracking number from my shipping department, and PROVED they had signed for it."
"i ordered a hard drive on the 9th which was somehow mailed to the wrong address about 500 miles away, they said the tracking number they gave me was incorrect, it wasnt, when they finally admitted their mistake they said they would have fedex pick up the drive from the incorrect location and then mail it to me, so i waited, its been 2 weeks and the drive is still at the wrong address and i have yet to find an itelligent person working there to tell me why, i am now asking for a refund, lets see how long that takes them. save yourself some trouble and go to pricewatch.com, spend an extra dollar if you have to."
"They suck. They sold me a refurb drive when there was no mention of it anywhere when I ordered it. Their customer support is far from good - good luck trying email them."
"BEWARE: this company needs to be a lot more up front about the fact that they deal primarily in used drives. This key info is hidden on a single page of their site, and is never mentioned on the catalog pages, item descriptions, or your order paperwork. My Teac CD came with dings, scratches and a big dent in the side."
