"In November, 2003, I made a search on the web for an Athlon 64 3400+. I knew that they weren't yet released from AMD, but I still checked daily so that when they did became available, I'd be one of the first to have one. Low and behold, MicroX-Press listed one in stock on their site. I called and they confirmed that it was indeed what was advertised. I ordered it, received it, installed it and it worked. However it wasn't a 3400+, my computer identified it as a 3200+. I called them and they still insisted it was a valid 3400+ CPU and blew me off to AMD tech support. When I called AMD, they couldn’t believe I had a 3400+ until I sent them a scan of it. They were shocked! I spent countless hours back and forth with the motherboard maker and AMD trying to get confirmation about what I actually had in my possession. The theory was that I needed a new motherboard bios revision to correctly ID the processor. Unfortunately, one didn’t yet exist for a CPU that hadn’t been released. Weeks later, my speculation that it was a mislabeled processor was proved, and I finally had proof in writing from AMD. MicroX-Press ultimately agreed to replace it only after they themselves tested and confirmed that it wasn’t a 3400+. I still had to wait several more weeks for the official product release, then another week for them to get one in stock so that I could send mine back to them. In the end and after two months of fighting, I finally got an authentic 3400+. To this day, I still can’t believe all that I went through because I purchased a misrepresented product from them. You make the decision whether or not your willing to take the same risk.
AN UPDATE 3/26/04 MicroX-Press just called me and said they wanted to make sure that everything was resolved to my satisfaction. They apologized and blamed AMD for sending a mislabled processor. We chatted for several minutes before asking if I would consider changing my review on Resellerratings. I appreciate the fact that they offered no bribe. The rep indeed sounded sincere enough. Shows that they want to improve their image, a step in the right direction for MicroX-press."
