"Had very old smoke detectors in a condo I recently purchased. I searched the regular big box and Amazon stores to find that model or certainly the replacement. Finally did a general search and came up with Electric Bargain Store. Not only did it list the original detector, it led me to the replacement of the replacement! It also gave clear instructions that there was an adaptor KA-F that would preclude me from having to rewire with a new harness. I did regular shipping and had the items within 3 business days, all the way to Florida.
Upon installing the smoke detectors and adaptors, I did find the adaptors to be a bit clumsy. Part of it I can attribute to limited space within the ceiling opening, yet the adaptor itself didn't seem to fit that securely between the old harness and the new smoke detector. I Think that it had more to do with the age and condition of the old detector. I ended up not using the adaptor, but just rewired the new harness. With the included instructions, it was quite simple to install them on the 3 detectors I purchased (I'm a very non-handy person!).
No real sense in returning the adaptors. I did appreciate EBS referencing it on their site and I'm sure it would work fine in a different environment. All in all, a great experience with finding and receiving the items. Even having to rewire with the new harness was really no big deal if you have to do it. I would definitely use EBS again for any of my needs. (Also, the detectors were several dollars cheaper than Amazon)."
"Once we determined the new smoke alarm model # that is compatible with my old alarm, the ordering experience was seamless and senior-age friendly. Received everything in quick fashion -- exactly what I ordered. When I communicated with the staff via e-mail, they responded either that same day, or easily within 24 hours. Extremely competitive price, so now I'm traveling my 10-12 year old neighborhood and offering to take orders so they can enjoy a quantity discount on alarms they will be changing for the first time since their homes were built. After the order was placed was problematic but follow up to my inquiry was good. No information showed up on the website tracking link for a couple of days. When I sent an email to see why, I received a timely response explaining that a shipment had been received damaged but a new order would be received, shipped and tracking information posted the next day. Another day went by with no tracking information shown. Another email inquiry explained a miscommunication had occurred with shipping and the order would be sent in two parts on two subsequent days. UPS shows they have the order and I expect to now receive the order(s)in 4 days (UPS ground). Considering the excellent web site, good pricing and fairly good communication, I guess delivery of the order a few days later than I wanted is OK. Stuff happens. "
"The routine parts of our EBS orders all went fine.
With respect to non-routine issues, EBS did a good job of communicating a factory delay in our first order. When we didn't respond immediately to an email notice that the product was made-to-order and would require a 5-week wait, a representative called us to be sure we knew that. Good to know, and much appreciated.
During the past year we have bought many thousands of dollars worth of remodel products online. Using those vendors as our standard, our wish list for EBS has two items:
1. We wish EBS would accept American Express. Virtually all the other vendors we buy from do. Unless a product is hard to find or the price is materially lower, choice of charge card heavily influences our shopping decisions.
2. We wish EBS' shipping costs were in line with those of other online vendors. In a world where shipping is often free, or at least heavily reduced for purchase with a high value-to weight ratio, $33 seems like a lot to charge to ship a box that measures 10"x6.5"x5", weighs less than four pounds, and carries an order that cost almost $1,000.
