"I've purchased maybe a dozen sets of lenses from ELD over the last 10 years, primarily PALs and NVO (I have multiple pairs of glasses). The company started out as a single Optician - Steve V. . They offered a very wide selection of brands. Sometime over the last few years he obviously expanded at least a bit by hiring a person to answer phone calls/emails - that would be Daisy. Initially the product was fine which is why I went back to getting lenses from them. However the last couple of pairs have had serious issues - PD off x2, edge polish not applied. Because these were not my primary glasses by the time I realized it any warranty period was over.

However, yesterday, Nov 30, 2018, I went on the site to look into getting a couple of pairs of Zeiss Office lenses - I always buy Zeiss and I've always purchased them from ELD. They no longer sell Zeiss! Or really any brands other than Essilor, Seiko & Kodak. It appears as though they have either signed a contract with Essilor that restricts what they can sell or ELD simply does not want to bother with multiple options. Maybe they changed wholesale labs, maybe they lost their account with Zeiss, Rodenstock, and others...Who knows? I just know that I used to have a good experience with ELD - choice, customer service, quality - and now I don't.

BTW, I've been a licensed Optician for 29 years (ABO & Va) but I stopped practicing when I went to law school, though I maintain my license so, yes, I do know what I'm talking about."

"Emailed to verify they could replace the lenses in my SwissFlex glasses - which they confirmed. On that basis, I mailed these glasses with insurance only to have them reverse their position stating they cannot work on these glasses. I therefore waste 10 days with glasses in the mail & to add insult to injury they refuse to refund my postage/insurance costs.

Have since identified a company Lensabl who do know what they are doing."

"The only place I've found that does 1.74 polarized lenses. They put them in a pair of Wayfarers with an incredibly strong prescription (~-11). The customer service was excellent. There was something wrong with them the first time around, (nobody's fault really, an unforeseen obstacle with the optical center and my half-Asian nose) and they received them back and remade the lenses perfectly. First time I've had sunglasses in two decades thanks to them."

"I am a returning customer and this time I sent the prescription with the Doctors PD measurement. I also dotted the plastic insert lenses with my pupil location. I purchased Varilux Physio High Index 1.74 lenses. The frames were a different shape. Daisy who helped me said smaller frames are thinner as well the Spheres and the Cylinder on each eye could be added to decide the range the lenses will support. I am very happy and no one asked me to write a review."

"I have a pair of Armani 513 frames - a relatively large rectangular plastic frame. After a lengthy process of culling the internet, I settled on having Eyeglass Lens Direct make my lenses. If one takes the time to educate oneself on different lens materials, and know what the numbers on their lens prescription means, then the ELD website offers a vast selection of lens options. Quite extensive were my choices, and I chose the Single Vision Polycarbonate Essilor 360, w/ the Crizal Sapphire coating. Steve Villani, the owner, shepherded my order thru the process quickly, and was very prompt in replying to my emails of concern. The hardest thing I had to do was mail him my frames - it's a smooth process. I'd not hesitate to use Eyeglass Lens Direct again, for you get a great set of spot on lenses for a fantastic price. Top notch!"

used a pair of 4 year old glasses which had the same
PD as well as frames I have used for about 5 years.
I'm not sure how the problem I had with far sighted reading

"The glasses I received from Eyeglass Lens Direct weren't made correctly. If I really strained, I could see properly, but I couldn't do that for very long or I'd get a headache. If I didn't strain, I couldn't see properly and that eventually gave me a headache too. After a few days of this I had my new glasses measured. Much to my dismay, the PD was 3.5 mm narrower than my prescription. (By Eyeglass Lens Direct's own admission, the margin of error for my prescription is only 2 mm.)

At Eyeglass Lens Direct's request, I sent the glasses back at my expense. When I asked for an explanation of what was wrong, the owner changed his story and contradicted himself three times. Then he stopped responding to my emails. At this point, I discovered the biggest problem: Eyeglass Lens Direct is a one-man show. There's no customer service department or supervisor to ask for. It's just one guy.

I filed a claim with PayPal. I sent in a letter from my doctor and won the claim. I got the money back for the lenses, but Eyeglass Lens Direct never returned my frames."

"Over the last couple of years I had Steve Villani fit lenses for two v.different and quite specialized frames with hi-index and special cuts (ie. for an antique golden rimless pair and for a designer i.c.Berlin, a very large unusual frame) with great care and very good results!.
There was excellent patient and cordial communication to make sure all the specifications were satisfactory met.
The price offered is excellent for high end products ; and the in the one case I needed a warranty policy applied it was respected immediately no issues and no questions asked ( i.e I has a top quality Crizal coating not meeting expectations that I returned few months later)
You may have to wait few days longer than your regular optician which is something you may want to take into account but you do get quality, unbeatable price and good service in exchange.
