"Same story. I ordered a tent on Sept 24, 2009. I didn't hear anything for 3 weeks so I e-mailed the company. It was several days before I got a reply. Then the person said the tent was on back order and would be in stock in "a month or so" and did I want a refund. I figured a month wasn't bad, so I would wait. A month and a half later, still no tent. So I e-mailed again on Dec 15, 2009. The reply said the tent would be in mid-Feb. So I decided to wait. (The tent is for my mom and she really wanted this particular tent which was out-of-stock everywhere else.) Then I e-mailed again on 18 Feb. The e-mail was returned by the hotmail postmaster saying delivery failed. So I went back to the site, got the new e-mail address and tried again. This time no reply and a week later the company website was gone and the phone number was disconnected. I intend to place a complaint with the Better Business Bureau of Florida and the FBI Internet Crime Complaint Center. I was just going to chock this up to another business failing due to the economy. But after reading all the other complaints, I realized that this guy knew he was in trouble and kept taking people's money. That is wrong! No good Christian would do that. If you feel the same I would suggest not letting this go and reporting it. And then pray to God for the correct outcome. If the man had finacial troubles because his wife was dying of cancer or something, then maybe God will help him through and he can have my money. If not, he deserves to be investigated by the authorities. I just want to make sure that he doesn't start up a new site next week and swindle more people out of their hard-earned money."
"I ordered a sleeping bag in July of 09'. Politely kept getting the runaround and in Feb. 10' they stopped responding, canceled my login acct. and changed there contact ways.
NEVER RECEIVED PRODUCT!! I called the Florida Internet Fraud Dept. They have directed me to the Pensacola PD and the FBI. Sending all of my emails to them, said they will follow-up on the on the company. Told me internet fraud is a federal crime which they take very serious no matter the $ amount. DON'T BUY anything from GEAR FOR CAMPING. Good luck to those of us whom will be in litigation with them.

"Do not purchase from vendor. Does not deliver. Purchased Garmin Footpod (very good price) on-line Dec 9th but again they did not deliver. Order info just kept saying "processing". Only way to contact was via customer service website. In January, asked via Customer website complaint for either a credit or refunded check. On 15 Jan, they said they could deliver the item 24 Jan and asked if this was acceptable. I said no, that I wanted a credit to my Credit Card or a refund check. It's now 10 Feb with no response (or item in the mail). Saw they have a new website with an actual 1-800 number. Called at 9:20 AM when the should have been opened per their website and received voice message that said they were closed and call back during business hours. Very frustrating. First time I've been scammed on-line."
"This company is fraudulent. Stay away. I ordered several items, specifically Zodi Shower Hut, shower pole and hose hookup in early November 2009, after being informed the items were in stock. After repeated contacts through email. I finally received part of order in late January. However, the shower pole was used and missing a section. Shower hut has never been received. Last email was very curt. Not the email link has been made unavailable, delivery failure notifications, repeated tries. Cannot get through. I have 22 email transactions concerning my order. One excuse after another for not getting it done. Now their website has changed looks without any email links for questions or notifications. Phone calls never answered. Several requests to refund money were made and was not done. Now I fear I will never get my money back. Will be buying products from manufacturer, or only established known resellers from now own. "

"They take orders, post to your credit card next day when item is on back ordered. I canceled order after nearly 2 months and it's been a month and they still haven't credited my credit card. I'm disputing the charge via bank and hopefully I'll get my money back. Also I filed complaint with Better Business Bureau and found out they have F grading and their accreditation revoked on July 22, 2009. Please see for yourself http://www.bbb.org/northwestern-florida/business-reviews/camping-equipment/gear-for-camping-in-pensacola-fl-18001535#ratingdetails"
"These guys take your money and ship nothing--although they are very polite about it.
I ordered an air pump for my kayak. After several weeks I inquired and was told the product was back ordered and expected in any day. A couple of weeks later, I inquired again, and was again told it was backordered, but expected in within days. The next time I contacted them, I asked to cancel my order. They said they would send me a check rather than credit my PayPal account. Still no check. Turns out they have an "F" rating from the local BBB since last summer. Owner's name is Cliff Lunsford."
"These are a very few complaints compared to the amount of business Gear For Camping receives. Readers keep in mind if you search any company including your favorites you will find reviews from people that are just unsatisfied no matter what. Just keep in mind that there are many more satisfied customers then the ones that make post online like these."
"Scammed out of $200+ dollars. Ordered a tent which turns out they did not have in stock. They keep telling me they were going to get it in. Keep me waiting 90 day. After 90 days credit card company would not issue me a refund. Looks like the money is gone. Stay away form this vender."
"Bait and switch. Offered lowest price on the net. then contacted me to say item was discontinued would I like a different item. Item was not discontinued so then he says he can get item I ordered but for a higher price ... more than others are selling. I refused and requested refund. I did get a prompt refund, but the whole transaction seemed shady. I personally will not shop here again."
"I've been scammed. My story is identical to the others- low advertised price, poor, poor communication. I did get 4 out of 40 items delivered in a late but tolerable time frame. When I tried to cancel remaining orders, I was told (by anonymous "customer service") that I couldn't cancel, the items were ordered for my order- seemed legit, as a small business, I understand running low on stock, and gave them the benefit of the doubt. This am, watching morning TV news, and seeing a feature on online scams, one site developed by a security expert to show how easy it is, I decided it was time to dig deeper. This site popped up, and oh boy, trust your gut! A call to Visa got immediate satisfaction, refunded all money other than the 4 items. Perfect! Devon, Bellingham, Wa
Edit 12/22/09
Because the company finally responded in a reasonable fashion, w/ a phone number, but still no actual persons name, after 6 weeks of requests for solid information, and intervention by Visa company to recoup $470 held by Gear For Camping, I will amend my rating to suggest it wasn't a scam or a fraud. (yes, GFC asked me to remove this review). I would not do business with them, nor ever recommend them to anyone, though. I am greatly encouraged by the power of individual reviews and the power of the blog- the book "What would Google Do?" by Jeff Jarvis should be required reading by anyone doing business today. There are many great retailers out there, don't bother with these inept folks."
"I found this site on Froogle, good prices and I let my guard down. I NEVER have done this before, this is the first time in 10 years I've been "scammed". Thank goodness I paid with Mastercard. They will not respond to e-mails, trouble tickets or answer their phone! So I am going to issue a chargeback with the card company. It's been 4 days and I have heard NOTHING. I wish I had never ever met this company. I checked with the BBB and they have an F and have been discredited and are no longer with the BBB."
"total scam artist. do not order anything from this company. he must be banking on the fact that some folks may not want to go through the trouble of pursuing a refund or perhaps it's his way of receiving small loans through a fake web business and then (maybe) refunding the $$ months after the order is placed. BEWARE!"
"I bought a packright cargo saddlebag. The item was defective. The stiches came apart the first time of use. The bag is no longer usable. I e-mailed them for a replacement about a week after purchase. They said that they would contact the manufacturer and that was the end of it. They no longer respond to my e-mails and their customer service number is an answering machine. You can't get a hold of anybody. "
