"With a private merchant like George Ury that requires you to order by phone or email, part of the buying experience involves PLACING the order. It's not simply like Newegg.com where you can see the products, add items to a cart, and checkout online in a matter of minutes. For that reason, I do not have an invoice number as the ordering process through George was never completed. I understand that this may prevent this review from being posted on Resellerratings.com, but I will post it regardless.
On April 23, I came aross George's site and saw a potentially remarkable deal on a Nikon 80-200mm f/2.8 lens. It was used (as George deals in used and refurbished products), but he had listed it as being in "Mint -" condition. Unfortunately, like all of his products, he did not include any images of the lens.
I emailed George to check on the availability and he responded incredibly promptly (literally within 10 minutes), indicating that it was in stock. I quickly replied with a request for a photo of the product, anticipating a great deal on a wonderful lens.
Just as promptly as before, he replied back very simply, "I do not have any images of the lens."
That was it. No offer to get an image (if he deals in cameras, surely he owns one or two that he can use to photograph products)...no detailed explanation to make up for the lack of a visual...nothing. Very off-putting, to say the least.
So I replied that I couldn't justify sending $600+ to someone online without some idea of how this lens looked and what shape it was in. Given how easy it is to take a photo and upload it (total time from start to finish doesn't have to be more than 2 minutes), it seemed very lazy and unprofessional on his part. After I expressed reluctance about ordering, he never replied again.
Be wary of this merchant. He may deal in wonderful equipment, but if his customer service is so poor during the SELLING portion of the interaction, how will his post-sale support stack up? If the guy can't be bothered to take a photo of an expensive product for an interested client, what are the odds that he will go out of his way for a customer who has already sent him the money?
