"I recently ordered plants from Great Garden Plants for a memorial garden that I created with my daughter-in-law in memory of our six month old grandson, Buddy. We each have a "Buddy Garden" and wanted to add matching plants for his birthday and Christmas. I specifically chose Great Garden Plants because of their online selection and placed an order for two Pardon My Purple Bee Balm and two Candy Mountain Foxglove plants on July 11th, 2023.
While two of the plants thrived and brought us joy this spring, the other two, unfortunately, did not germinate. This was particularly disappointing given the sentimental significance of the garden. We look forward to seeing the plants bloom each year as a way to remember Buddy, and the missing plants left a gap in our plan.
Great Garden Plants boasts a wonderful selection, and their website makes it easy to find unique varieties. However, my experience with inconsistent plant viability has led me to reconsider them as my go-to source. I may need to return to my local nursery for future additions to our Buddy Gardens, where I can inspect the plants before purchase and ensure they meet my needs.
Overall, I would recommend Great Garden Plants with reservations. Their selection is impressive, but my experience highlights the risk of online plant purchases, especially for a project with a high sentimental value. If you choose to order from them, be prepared for the possibility of some plants not surviving shipment or failing to germinate."
"I buy a lot from Brecks but thought I'd give these folks a try. Glad I did. Prices were better, shipping was FAR better. Plants were in great health. The ONLY thing they could do better is to change the way they attach plastic on the plants. Very hard to get off. Good place. "
"My own fault I snoozed on getting enough creeping thyme before the local nurseries ran out. I was happy to find some online. But when I bought from GGP I discovered two things. 1: a flat cost 3x as much as my local nursery, $85 vs $27.50. 2: Some of the plugs looked dead and now that they've been in the ground a couple weeks almost all of them appear to have died. You can blame this on me as I am not an experienced gardener but the plugs I planted before the nurseries ran out look great. Over all, I learned my lesson to never order plants online. If I can't get seasonals locally I will wait till next year."
"I placed my first order order & received all my plants. I was so happy to see these plants are gorgeous & healthy.
I placed another order & I'm waiting for the plants to come in. I love this company, the prices are great, healthy good size plants & fast shipping. I just placed my third order. I am very pleased with all my plants."
"Two Ruby Stella daylilies arrived today. Fast shipping. Plants packed immaculately. One pot had four plants in it. The other had a sturdy developed plant with budding bract. I am impressed. Worth every penny. "
"First time orderer - 1 dead plant, one invasive species sent by accident, still waiting for replacement. Four deer resistant plants the deer enjoyed quickly - contacted customer service who blamed mis-advertising it on their “marketing department”. No offer for replacement or compensation. I won’t order from them again and would advise others not to."
"So I ordered 8 arborvitae plants and 6 purple vine plants. I only got the vines and a bunch of random plants. I have Called them numerous time and left messages, have gone on the website filled out the contact us application and have not heard back from them. They say 100% guaranteed but the don’t even return your call. I should have stuck with the nurseries near me"
"I bought 5 ornamental grasses, planted them per instructions. In the Spring, they were all dead. I have extensive gardens and years of gardening experience. Took the risk and bought without a 1 year guarantee. Forty dollars worth, down the toilet. To lose one might be explainable, but when all 5 die, there is something wrong with the product, which probably relates to selling it to the wrong area of the country whereby it cannot withstand this zone, but is misadvertised. "
"I ordered plants from them this year. They arrived large healthy and beautifully packaged! I highly recommend buying from this company!"
"They shipped the plant when they said they would (they ship on Mondays). The plant was well protected in the box. The plant was about 4" wide and 7" tall, which was larger than I was expecting. The plant was in good condition. They included instructions for planting. Before ordering, I signed-up for their newsletter and received a coupon code for $7, which I applied to my purchase. I am pleased with my buying experience, and would consider purchase a plant from them again (depending on my gardening needs)."
