I would give them 0 stars if I could!

"I would give them 0 stars if I could. I bought the card because the packaging says you can make international transactions for a small fee. After receiving my permanent card I tried to make an international payment and it was denied. They told me they don't allow that regardless of what the package says. It also states that the monthly fee will not be taken out until after the first use. However they took mine out immediately even though I had never used the card. I told them that the packaging is false advertisement and grounds for a law suit. I demanded the fee they took out be put back in. It took a lot of arguing and threatening to sue before they agreed to wave the monthly fee. I will still have to pay the ATM fee to get my money out though. Please do not use this company for anything. You can't even call them. If you try it says "our customer service is unavailable" no matter when you call. I had to use the chat service but even that is difficult. They end the chat before ever answering you 90% of the time!"

Negative Balance with ZERO uses

"We received a couple Green Dot debit cards as gifts ($200) from a friend. To use to cards, we had to open a bank account with Green Dot Bank, which required our social security numbers (red flag). We tried using the cards are retail stores with PINs as debit cards, but they didn't work. After trying them for a few times, we gave up and put the cards away. Now, our balances are -$15.90 and -$11.90 due to $7.95 monthly fees for maintaining accounts under $1000 balance. So the fees eventually drained our balances without us using the money (gifts from our friend) at all. Wow!!! We have requested to close all my cards and account with a representative on the phone without any confirmation provided. We'll see if they are truly closed. By the way, its U.S. headquarter is in Pasadena, CA, but its parent company is actually in South America (red flags). "

Green Dot ****

"Got a card as a gift but the giver didn't realize it was a reloadable and I don't live in the US so with no SS # I couldn't use it online. Tried calling CS was a waste of time. So every month $7.95 is being deducted until the balance is zero. With no humans to speak with the issue won't be resolved."

"I had security concerns about the card number that I have had for 4 years. Since I can't do a charge-back with greendot, I have to take that extra measure to protect myself. Besides, it is almost time to renew.
I was thinking of going with AmEx prepaid, as their fees aren't as ridiculous as greendot's. I told the CS rep, 'James' that If they would change my number and email me the new number today, I would agree to stay. James said, "Oh, yes, Ms. xxx, we will send you the number to your email today." I told him that this is my June money, so getting that number is important. "Oh, don't worry, Ms. xxx, it will be to your email today." At the end of the business day there was no number 'to my email'.

After speaking with 4 CS robots, I was told that I have to wait 7 days for the card to arrive. Until then, I have no money. That is unacceptable . This company relies heavily on high tech, when all of a sudden, NO ONE can give me my new number except the USPS. I don't believe them.

I was told to wait for 2 days for Corporate to contact me, which they never did. The bots put down on the support ticket that my complaint was that I never received my card. I never said that. It was just sent that day. I don't care about the plastic. Not one of them would fix that, so as not to block my account.

Their 'Stepford' customer (no) service is appalling. The reps have no idea what you are saying...they can only read words from a prepared form. That pause after you ask them a question...is them looking for the answer on the form that may or may not have anything to do with your question.

That CS rep named 'James' (they all have these American names) lied to me so I would stay with greendot. I now have no access to my money and I will close the account as soon as I get my money. The remainder of my Social Security check was used for rent. The money that greendot took from me was for necessities, like food, gas, and medicine. If I have to, I will drive down to Pasadena (after borrowing some money for gas and a sandwich) , then go to Corporate to get my money....or to, at least, borrow a few bucks from the very-well-paid leader of this cult, Steven W. Streit.

Note: There is no Corporate (or USA) email addy. Why is Mr. Streit hiding from the 'masses' that he gouges? ( masses=his word, not mine ) The 'masses' are what put him financially where he is. His reliance on bargain-basement outsourcing will be his undoing at some point in the future..

If you can't drive to Pasadena, then contact your State Attorney General, ( For CA residents: Kamala Harris) and file a complaint.
File a complaint with the BBB if you want to, though, IMO, they appear to be biased. Personally, I won't bother.
Also contact Michael Finney, consumer advocate pitbull, at KGO TV, ( 7 on Your Side ) in San Francisco. He WILL get you your money back.

My advice to everyone is to stay far away from greendot.prepaid card.
