"NEVER PURCHSE FROM HAND-TOOLS!
They sent me a knife with stains on the blade that were so bad I could not clean it off. They begrudgingly agreed to exchange it, but they made ME pay for the return shipping on a knife they never checked before they sent. I picked out a knife for the exchange which clearly stated 8 were currently in stock. I even confirmed this with the "staff" and they wrote me back that it was in stock. Here we are, 3 weeks later and I've yet to receive that "in stock" item. I wrote to cancel the order and was told it was special order and it cannot be cancelled. Special order in stock items are a real thing now....I guess...right? So then I try to call to talk to a manager and after getting a voicemail 5 times that was always too full to leave a message, I finally get a call back. Not a manager to apologize and make it right, no a manger to tell me that the original knife I sent back that was stained "wasn't that bad and I should have put a little effort into cleaning off the blade next time before wasting their time and sending it back". So now even after all that I was sent another email....but the person I originally spoke with and was told my knife would ship that day. That was 5 days ago now and the tracking number still says "preshipment label created" but no pickup received by the USPS. STAY AWAY FROM THIS BUNCH OF CON ARTISTS!"

"I DO NOT recommend Hand-Tools.com. I placed an order almost two weeks ago. I did not get an email confirmation or receipt until today, and I have not received my order. I had to send them two emails, one phone call and register a complaint with PayPal. Finally, I received an email receipt with a tracking number, but it has not been sent. If you call customer service, it immediately goes to voicemail."

Second, their return policy said 30 days from day of order. NOT, day of delivery. It took about 3 weeks for me to get the shoes from China. That offers no time for me to get the shoes back to China.
It took 2 weeks of communication and sending photos for me to get a response of "This is our return policy". do not buy from this company. Their website is superb. Don't be fooled."
"I placed an order with this company some time in early December and received no order confirmation or email of any kind. A week or so later, having received no notice of my order or of shipping, I emailed the company to request a cancellation. I was informed by a representative (who curtly insisted that they HAD sent me an order confirmation) that it was too late to cancel the order as "it has already shipped." Two or three days later I received an email stating that the shipping label had only just been created and the order was about to be shipped out – the rep had apparently simply lied about the order being shipped.
I contacted them again and voiced my dissatisfaction with this, as they could have (and should have) canceled my order as it had not even shipped as the representative had falsely claimed. The same representative then (rudely and dismissively, I might add) gave me some vague spiel about how they can't cancel orders due to their shipping policies. She even flatly stated that it takes up to 11 days(!) for them to ship out orders. On what planet is this an acceptable level of service?
It's clear that this company is a drop-shipping operation – they do not keep much of their inventory on hand and thus order/ship it from elsewhere. This results in long shipping times, miscommunication, and poor service in general, as was displayed here. The rude customer service rep also informed me that if I wished to make a return, they have a 20% restocking fee. Not only is this wildly excessive, but I can tell you (having run an online business for years myself) that "restocking fees" are nonsense. It costs nothing to accept returns – it's a tactic to pressure customers into NOT making returns. "Restocking fees" are a shady practice you typically see with fly-by-night ebay sellers, not professional businesses.
TL;DR: Four strikes with this company: 1) It took almost two weeks for my initial order to even ship out (with no order confirmation email). 2) Despite this, they curtly refused to cancel my order days before it shipped. 3) Rude and dismissive customer service. 4) Extortive 20% "restocking fee." Take your money to a professional business who actually values your custom, there are plenty out there. No clue how this amateur hour company has so many positive reviews – their service is abysmal on every level, all the way down. Avoid."
"Took my money inmediately. I had to threaten to dispute payment with VISA after 6 days to get my knife shipped. They totally ignored 3 emails, and gave me a song and dance on the phone. Go somewhere else and pay a little more and be happy "
"I was looking for some of the old style Super Knives (folding utility knives), the kind that use the screw to hold in the blade. I found them on this company's site and I was skeptical as to whether or not they really had them (because I couldn't find them anywhere else). I phoned them and emailed them and their responses were prompt and very accurate. Not only did they have exactly what I wanted but they shipped them quickly. I received the knives and am very happy about Hand-Tools.com. If you're looking for something that is hard to find and if they have it then they you can believe them and again their communication was fast and right on. "
"Prompt service, fast shipping! I procrastinated (as usual) in ordering my husband his fathers day gift. I placed the order on Sunday, the 10th, (one week before i needed it) and received a tracking number the next morning along with a reply to my email regarding a question I had about the product. It was due to be delivered on Friday but actually got here on Thursday the 14th!!! 3 days before Fathers day!!!! I could not be happier with the craftsmanship and quality of the knife! I also had it engraved. I will definitely be placing orders through this company in the future and referring any and all friends to their store!!!!!!!"
"I ordered a knife from them over a week ago (3/19/2012). The item showed IN STOCK. My bank account was IMMEDIATELY deducted. I received my first email that afternoon, stating that my order had been confirmed. I then received my SHIPMENT NOTIFICATION later that evening. BEWARE - They mislead you by printing a shipping label immediately upon ordering, you receive an electronic notification, thinking you item had shipped, but it hasn't. I sent them an email - NO REPLY. I even posted on their Facebook page, hoping to get a reply - they DELETED my post and made it where I couldn't comment on their page. I will be contacting my bank and starting the proceedure to cancel the transaction."
"I rated Hand-tools.com 2 stars. They lost three stars, the first because the item which their website said was in stock, was not! I even rechecked after I found this out and the site still said it was in stock. They mislead you by printing a shipping label immediately upon ordering, you receive an electronic notification, thinking you item had shipped, but it hasn't. When I inquired several days later, they responded, saying my item should be delivered to their warehouse within the week! Why then did they charge my credit card immediately upon placing my order? They lost two more stars for shipping. First they shipped my order by USPS, when I paid for UPS ground. Second, when the package arrived the box was crushed and torn up, it was covered in masking tape to hold it together. The knife itself is nice, and the engraving is very nice, but had I known it would take so long for my item to delivered, I would have shopped somewhere else and paid a little more."

"I ordered a Bark River Bravo 1. Requested my name engraved on knife if it fits, if not my initials. These guys did my initials in lower case and tried to tell me that wasn't weird as people request it all the time.
They also sent me a sheath made of leather instead of the kydex sheath I ordered. They do not want to help me at all after several emails per Bertha.
Stay FAR FAR AWAY!!! The lower price isn't worth it!!!"
"the product was said to in stock when it wasnt. when i finnaly was able to get ahold of these people they gave many excuses to why it wasnt in stock and the site said it was. i was even told they dont carry this specialty item (esee junglas) if that is the case it shouldnt say in stock on there site and they were consistantly wrong about were it was and wen it would ship. it finally shiped yesterday after two weeks of stressing and trying to get ahold of the company. the knife not being there and them in no rush to get me my product but imediatly withdrawing money from my account is one thing but not why i would strongly urge you to shop elsewhere. the reason is with all emails phone calls i was only able to get ahold of them twice in this time and they misinformed me at those times telling me my package would ship today wen it wasnt even close. on top of that not one of my emails was responded to even tho they say they willl respond within 24 hours. so extremely lazy and slow with the no customer service this is why i wont be shopping with these people anymore and i hear they have six different websites so be careful out there"
"I ordered the Browning Stag II Whitetail field dressing knife. It is a great knife. Item was ordered on 6 Nov 11 but did not ship until 9 Nov 11. E-mail requesting shipping status was not answered. You must call on phone to get service/response. I paid for UPS ground shipping service, but the item was shipped USPS (Mail). After talking with the representative from Hand Tools.com, we discovered that there were some e-mail issues (anti spam - junk e-mail etc) that caused the problems. I have subsequently placed two more orders with Hand Tools.com and have had great results. Yes, the shipping is a little slow, but the products are worth the wait, they are as advertised and the price is competitive. "
