"I wish you could select zero stars but you can't. Do not rent cars from here. Just an awful experience. Horrible unfriendly customer service. No one to help in fixing their mistakes/overcharges. Nonworking contact numbers left in a circle of trouble. It starts with me making an online payment in full for a discounted rate (because I prepaid in full) at Hertz Car Rental for a rental for 1 week for $94. When my husband & I came to p/u the car the Hertz rental store was locked & closed. We had an important meeting to go to & no one there to give us our prescheduled prepaid car. We began to call Hertz w/ no good lines but "old unusable" Hertz contact numbers. Finally, a young man w/a girl drive up in a pickup truck smelling like alcohol and pot came to us nervously looking down because he didn't want us to see his glossy-eyed high on drugs face. We knew he was high stumbling around apologizing for not being there telling us the car was ready to take. We said nothing because we were late to our meeting. After the week, the rental was returned and my credit card shows a charge on my card made without our authorization from Hertz for 175. (the more expensive rate, not my prepaid rate). I tried to call the store but no one an entire week daily ever answered. We personally went down to the store we rented from with no one ever there (Shingle Springs, California). Finally, after a week someone answers at the store where the guy tells me to call a phone number that was completely bogus. I had to find phone numbers online to corporate explaining the double charges but everyone was confused about the double charges. We know this had to be the intoxicated employee that did this mess. I called me credit to refuse/investigate the double charges who returned the extra charges in my favour. Now the company comes back saying I owe these higher rate charges (erased my lower prepaid amount I paid) that they made a mistake on double charging on. I have spent so many days/hours for something that should have never happened. No one helps or returns phone calls. Our local news does stories on bad businesses to help consumers who have been cheated by bad businesses. I am ready to take this to the local news station on this place and my experience to warn future customers. Now I am afraid they will ruin my excellent credit for their ineptness. This company does not function properly at all."
"I have to say my first time rental a car with Hertz was so disappointed. I was overcharged 3 times ($1000) than the estimated price ($270) because of their mistake.
Another problem is Hertz customer service seems worthless so I am giving them a poor rating simply because they keep saying they not do anything about my issue.
I was very frustrated because this unexpected charge affect my budget for buying gift for my girlfriend and my plan ticket back to China.
My friend told my Hertz is the biggest and the most responsible car rental company in the US, I trusted my friend so I rent a car from Hertz. If I know my experience would end like this, I would never do this. I am so disappointed.
For others who want to rent a car from herts, Please pay attention to the contract!"
"I have rented from them 3 times--everyone has been bad but the last one was HORRIBLE!!!!! I'd never tell anyone to rent from them. Started off my confirmation pick up time was 3:30. we get there and the guy at the counter says you are going to have a 30-90 minute wait so you might as well sit down and wait. I asked why when it is reserved. he said we dont have any cars. I said no cars at all...? so we waited. went back up after a half hour and he said we dont have any cars. I said would you please get your manager out here or on the phone i want to talk to someone. he called someone but did not tell that person on the line i wanted to talk to them so more waiting. After 95 MINUTES i go back up and the lady at the counter walked up, asked if they had a rental car he said yes and proceeded to get her set up. I said WHAT??? you have had me waiting here all this time, NEVER offered an upgrade, never an I'm Sorry..NOTHING. so finally he gets me a car--we go over all of the details of the rental......i confirmed--we want to prepay so i bring it back empty correct? (And I asked him TWICE) and he said yes both times. they show you a little screen you sign your name and done. I return the car and they said your form says you were going to fill it up and return it full and they are going to charge me $110!!!!!!!!!! NO WAY! so i had to call customer service. After SEVEN calls, twice getting disconnected and five transfers i talk to someone that i was told would be a manager and was not--just a staff person answering the phones. Ronald Reagan airport is this location."
"The location at the Teli Group in Houston, TX has horrible service and can't see how hertz does not have stringent rules on Franchises. Makes you think what expectations Hertz provides and the way they handle the service at this location really directs you to rather go with Enterprise than Hertz.
I rarely write reviews but the way they handled everything was horrible. With enterprise they do take care of you but Hertz does not seem to.
You would expect that you are paying to get a rental in good to great condition without the need to find service centers to get their rental to par. You have to spend time to find a tire location and then time to spend to get their tires up to notch seems they left the tires go way down which Discount tire said they were amazed that tires are still good.
Now as others have mentioned the cars that they give you is dirty. Inside still a lot of trash from previous person. Trash inside the whole section. Windshield also dirty and not from outside but from inside like someone sprayed water inside windshield and left water marks around. So that seems like someone did that or hard rain gets inside car.
Rental companies expect you to return the car in received form but they don't provide the same way. The only one that gives you the service you expect seems to be enterprise.
If Hertz does not maintain rules to the Franchises and just let them do what they think is OK seems to not be something you would expect from a company. Seeing something like this really makes you think of the overall company. So if this is their view of how their company rental vehicles should be then it is a rental company you should avoid. YOu are paying for your rental to be in near to top notch or at least in an condition you wouldn't be worried about. If you have to have it checked outside the rental then they should give you a incentive or pay you to take it there than you paying for it. You are paying for time and having to find a location. Especially if you are just arriving to a new city and don't know where a location is and then you have to take time off your vacation or business to have the rental checked where they should have done it is not good business from the perspective on what I see that they want us to do when we return the vehicles.
I won't suggest Hertz, especially with the quality they seem to provide or the quality they don't make sure that their company should provide at each location. "
