"Hobby Engineering is quite possibly the coolest store ever, bar none.
Al is a wealth of knowledge and advice and just fun to talk to. I could (and have) spend hours just roaming the store and talking to him about all kinds of different things.
There's nothing in this store that comes ready-made to plug it in and just use it. It's all about DIY and possibilities that the manufacturer "never intended".
I've always gotten prompt, courteous service, Al has done a great job of standing behind his products, and his prices are quite reasonable. You might save a few pennies on Amazon or somewhere else for some of this stuff, but you'll lose out on a great opportunity to discuss your project with a true enthusiast and you won't get the kind of friendly encouragement and support you can get here.
Hobby Engineering is the go to place for Bay Area makers as far as I'm concerned.

"I had two choices - a big corporation on the opposite coast, or a small store that's relatively local, provided better information, faster shipping, and even with the required local sales tax, a lower price! Obviously Hobby Engineering won. I'm totally pleased!"
"Shopping with an unknown name on-line can be scary; I'm never sure if I'm just throwing my money away. I need not have worried shopping at Hobby Engineering! When I called and spoke with Al, I got all the information I needed to make an informed decision on my purchase. He helped me to understand what I was looking at and what would best serve my purpose. The product came quickly and well packaged. I can't wait to make another purchase. I just wish I lived near the store so I could oogle all the fun-looking stuff!"
"Hobby Engineering is a great site for getting all kinds of gear for fun and educational electrical projects.
I got the BoeBot last year and have had a great time putting it together and learning to program it and reconfigure it. It comes with easy to use software and a very accessible manual/tutorial to help even early beginners learn to make their very own robotic friend :)
Thanks!"
"I ordered and received some switches from Hobby Engineering and they were not what I was looking for. I received a full refund. When you deal with Hobby Engineering, dont expect a big corporate experience. I think its really just one guy (maybe a few helpers) who care about what they sell passionately. It may take time for you to get your questions answered but if you're persistent it will be worth it."
"The things in this store are full of awesomeness!
They've done the work for you and get you to the good stuff.
For the real geeks of the world."
"Great response. Fast shipping. My order was filled accurately and everything arrived in perfect condition."
"I am NOT easily impressed, my daughters would probably describe me as overly critical and more often cynical. Albert (I forgot his last name) the owner, is exceptionally knowledgable and can
answer many engineering questions or offer solutions. I have placed numerous orders over the past few months, and I am VERY impressed. I don't know if he's bribing the mailman with cookies or what, but my orders get here very quickly, and always well packed and protected. As far as on-line resources GO, Hobby Engineering Deserves the Exceptional FIVE GOLD Stars !!!!!"
"Great selection! Ship date could have been a little faster though, but overall great place for hobby electronics!"
"e12 resistor pack of 610 great product highly recomend."
" Hobby engineering is a great and organized website! So much fun stuff to browse and daydream at while also providing awesome descriptions and super prices for the side projects I have."
"Best prices for robotics kits and/or components! =^}"
"Al was extremely helpful and knowledgeable when I inquired about a small replacement motor for my project. I placed the order with ease and I received it promptly. "
"Awesome stuff for your Hobby needs, plus awesome service. "
"Lots of interesting stuff that's not easy to find elsewhere. Prompt order turnaround."
