"Home Advisor sent me several recommendations for some renovation work that I wanted done on my house. One of the contractors, that they recommended, contacted me using a different company name than the name that Home Advisors sent. I was concerned about the name change and called Home Advisor to double check the company. They had no record of the 2nd name that the contractor was using, so an employee told me to make sure that any contracts that I signed were under the name of the company that Home Advisor recommended.

I was told to do this because Home Advisors guaranteed the contractors that they recommend. I was told that if I had any problems, that Home Advisors would help me make it right, even if it meant that they would do the work themselves to fix it.

Unfortunately, I had BIG, BIG problems with the contractor that they recommended. He has made a holy mess out of my house. He worked on 3 projects and every single thing that he touched has problems. Seriously, I can’t believe the guy has ever done any type of renovation work at all. Some of it is even safety issues. Most of his “work” will have to be ripped and installed properly. So, I called Home Advisor about it. Now, they are back tracking. Now they say that they are just an “advertising source for contractors and a matching source for consumers”.

Today, an employee said that I had a contract with the schmo contractor that specifies a resolution process and I do not wish to abide by the contract. I’m not exactly sure what it is that I am not abiding by unless they want me to let the schmo who completely screwed up my home, on THREE DIFFERENT PROJECTS, come back and do more “work” that I will have to rip out. That is not an acceptable solution.

In my opinion, Home Advisor is absolutely worthless. I might as well just have thrown a dart at the phone book and taken my chances. They claim to do background checks on the people/companies that they recommend, but I guess checking to see if they actually know how to do the work that they are recommending them for, isn’t one of the things that they check. I would be surprised if they even checked to see if he has a license. Apparently, references of jobs done in the past isn’t something that they do either.

Home Advisor made a lot of promises, but when I called them needing help regarding one of their contractors who has totally screwed up projects that will cost me thousands of dollars to fix, they just have a lot of excuses. They are absolutely no help.

"I was in a really bad spot when I logged into my old ServicMagic account. I actually didn't know they had merged or been bought by HomeAdvisor. A water pipe burst in my home (as is the trend during winter) and Luna was supposed to come to install carpet since they already had my room's measurements and previous order on record. They offered a discounted rate and all of that. Well, they just didn't show up for installation. No one called me. I was living in a hotel waiting for carpet to be installed and I was climbing the walls out of my mind. I was so angry with them that I couldn't even speak. They wanted to put me off for another 4 days. I went onto this site, posted the project as a rush job, got a text within 5 mins, and someone met me within 2 hours of the post. They came by the next day and installed the carpet. It was a really easy job. I am so grateful that this site exists because otherwise I wouldn't have the slightest idea of where to find someone to install carpet on no notice. It was a Mom-and-Pop shop, great people, great customer service. I would have never found them otherwise and they're now going to install flooring for my neighbors who are having a similar issue (same water pipe burst)."
