The man I spoke with did not tell me he was with home advisor, I thought he was the answering service, and when I mentioned I was possibly needing electrical work done he put that info into the system without telling me and I had
Electricians calling me, and I did not know why. Then I was told by one of the ekectricians that home advisor charged them for referrals, so through no fault of their own, they were having to pay.
I got thru again to home advisor and had them remove my info.
I was very upset.
And I went to the website to check them out, and it is a mess trying to figure out how to use it.

"I used HomeAdvisor to find a plumber for a job in my home.

I had previously tried to get a reference from all of my co-workers (in a small office of about 25 people) and any other home owner I knew, thinking that I'd prefer a plumber / handyman who came with a recommendation over just calling randomly out of the phone book - but nobody could help me. One person actually recommended I just go to Home Depot and try to 'pick up' a service provider there! I'm a single woman living alone, and this was absolutely not something I was interested in doing.

I heard about HomeAdvisor from a tv commercial, and although reading reviews from strangers was not quite the same as getting a recommendation from someone I actually knew, it still felt better than just picking a name at random and hoping it went well.

I was matched with three plumbers in my area, all of whom came with professional accreditation and a whole list of reviews for me to read. All three of them seemed like a good match - and I was very happy with the service provided.

(I subsequently contracted through one of the big home services/products stores to get a ceiling fan replaced - and that was a huge hassle, it didn't go smoothly at all - so now I'm doubly glad I didn't just 'pick someone up' at one of those stores!)

I am a relatively new homeowner, without existing home maintenance contacts in this area, and I intend to make HomeAdvisor my resource for whatever I need done around my house from now on."
