"I ordered a Pentax Optio S4 from this company, which claimed to have the item in stock. The price of the camera + the $25 they were charging for shipping (from NY to MA), was about $5 cheaper than some other places that I had looked at. First, I should have known that there was something not right when I entered my credit card information and the site did not even look secure (no lock at the bottom right of browser). Then after a couple of hours, I received an email stating the I should call them in order to proceed with my order. I called the next day, not knowing what could have gone wrong. I thought that maybe the item was out of stock. I had to call during business hours and was first told that the sales department was busy and that I should call back in 45 min- 1 hour. I called back later, and the "sales department" was agressively trying to sell me accessories to go with the camera after assuring me that they had the item. I was only interested in purchasing the camera so the salesperson said that it was fine. I called back a few hours later, having decided to also purchase a canon a8 as a present, so I wanted to add it to this order. The gentleman I talked to on the sales dept sounded like the person I had talked to previously. Upon giving him my order number, he immediately told me that they did not have the original camera I had ordered (Optio S4) in stock and that they would not be able to deliver it until 2.5 to 3 weeks later. If I hadn't called, I don't know when it would have occurred to them to let me know when the camera was out of stock. That is, assuming that it was indeed out of stock, and not that they did not want to sell it to me because I did not want to purchase more (after reading many comments on this site about these types of practices, I'm guessing that they did want me as a customer.. but this is just pure speculation on my part.) I ended up cancelling my original order. This business doesn't feel professional and this whole transaction left me worried enough that I cancelled my credit card as well.
I ended up ordering my camera from 6ave.com. They had positive ratings, and I felt more confident about them. I called after a few hours to double check on my order, because ID Tech had left such a poor impression of this camera purcashing ordeal. 6ave CSRs seemed professional and curteous. The entire transaction from ordering online to delivery took less than 2 days, plus their entire price was only about $5 more expensive (for the Optio S4, I never did purchase the Canon A8). I would not order from ID Tech Online again, it was a complete waste of time on my part, and the risks - not getting the item on time, and having my credit card number out there for all to see is not worth the trouble."
