"This is with regards to an online order ($3400 total), made on ikea.com in June 2013.
We are still sleeping on an air mattress surrounded by unpacked boxes. For three weeks, the order has been "in process". No updates. We called the 888 number so many times, I have it memorized. The call center staff are very rude and clueless.
During my last call (yesterday) I asked to talk to the supervisor, and when he reiterated to me that they "do not have an estimate of when my order would ship" (seriously, I asked, do you think it could be 2 months, and he said "possibly") - I asked him whether HE HIMSELF would still wait for the shipment, or whether he would cancel if he were in my shoes - and he said "NO, I PERSONALLY WOULDN'T WAIT". Can you believe this? their own employee wouldn't shop with them.
Then, also yesterday, I received an email from IKEA saying that my order had shipped! They gave the phone number of the shipping company, and I called to find out when I would be receiving it. The shipping company told me that my order hadn't, in fact shipped! I called IKEA back, again waited and was bumped around by rude "associates", and finally was told that IT WAS A MISTAKE and the order HADN'T shipped!!!
Will be canceling the order. Do not buy from them unless you can go to the store"
"I ordered a couch from Ikea for Sunday 5-9pm delivery. The delivery company Dynamex never called me and did not show up for the delivery. The IKEA paperwork does not make it clear how to call and check status. The day after the missed order, spent very very very long time on hold getting no answers as to why my paid delivery was missed. Beware of IKEA and Dynamex. Would not use them again."
"HOUSTON, TEXAS -- Many problems with our birch cabinets colors. Many black and purple lines all over the doors...but not on their display cabinets. Waited hours trying to return inferior product. Also we were forced to buy $150 worth of extra product to get our 20% discount because they were out of one of the products we were buying, which put us under the total $ amount needed for our discount.
We were told we could return extra items anytime up to 25 years later. We decided not to use them after kitchen was completed and we tried to return extra items 1 1/2 yrs later. After waiting one hour they wouldn't take them back, even though they still carry the product."
"Having lived in 6 foreign countries and shopped Ikea in most of them, Ikea USA is simply the pits. Employees will pitch policy. Just call back and get another employee and the same policy the first one referenced is non-existent. Inventory records are worst than a joke. The quality of the employees is akin to what you would expect from an outsourced group from your cell phone provider. Speed of delivery is about the same time as it takes them to design a product, find a supplier, go into production and deliver via the slowest possible method. Product quality is good for the price. Unfortunately, you can count on some items arriving damaged. Then the returns process starts. It's really not a process as it appears like you're introducing a new concept to them every time. "
"Bad quality furniture and very poor CUSTOMER SERVICE in IKEA. Don't buy from IKEA, instead support your local furniture stores. IKEA is bad.
We got ODDA bed series. The bed broke within 2 months and IKEA doesn't replace it. The customer service was very disrespectful. Don't go IKEA!"
"Refuses to refund shipping cost from online order even when the order is not shipped out yet. The shipping costs from them is insane (100$+) and I have never seen business refusing to refund shipping when the order is not yet shipped"
"Haven’t brought anything online or used the delivery service yet but for me the value for money is ok. Ikea is usually a fairly cheap option. The kitchen table we brought is solid wood and still in good condition. In general you can find anything at Ikea in various styles and designs. The customer service might not be brilliant but they have to cut cost somewhere I guess…
It’s a good place to take your kids, Ikea is a family friendly company. On a Tuesday kids up to 12 years of age get a free meal – the food is not great but enjoyable."
"My husband and I purchased a brand new kitchen less than a year ago from IKEA. We spent a lot of money and in the end, every appliance we purchased from IKEA isn't working properly. We got a microwave (the light won't come on and it's starting to short), an oven (we put it in self cleaning mode for the first time and it almost exploded. It is now on lock mode and we can't open it), and finally we got a hood for the stove (one of the setting doesn't work). On top of that, it took forever to get all the kitchen components in for my husband to finish the kitchen. Some of the drawers were on back order for more than 4 months! Ridiculous to say the least. Their customer service also sucks. We called them to schedule an appointment to fix the appliances and they were suppose to come this morning between 8am - 12pm. My husband took half the day off from work just to wait for them. My husband happened to miss a call from the service people and instead of trying to call him again, they cancelled the appointment all together. Minutes after my husband noticed the missed call, he called back but they had already cancelled the appointment and my husband had to re-schedule it for another day. What a waste of time. We are so disappointed all around."
"The worst customer service I have ever experienced in 30 years of retail.
On hold for 45-60 minutes and then transferred and back on hold for over 60 minutes only to eventually hang up in frustration. Told on 2 occasions a return call would be forthcoming, but none came.
4 emails not answered.
Almost unbelievable.
This was my first and LAST purchase from IKEA."
"IKEA is hit or miss. We bought 8 office chairs, the wheels broke off on 5 of them - there is a serious manufacturing/design issue with these, total junk.
We do buy desks from IKEA that are great, we buy simple desks in different sizes then put them together to create a pretty modular workspace. Building a desk for $25 - $30 can't be beat and they have lasted quite some time.
Overall, I wouldn't use this furniture for my house, but for cheap office desks it's not bad. Stay away from the chairs."
"We have bought a lot of Ikea furniture over the years and overall the quality is very good. However, we just purchased our kithen with them since they handle everything from measure to install. The services from measure to install were a disaster. Ikea has transitioned to a preferred installer that can not keep up with demand. From the start the service missed appointment, took wrong measurements and inflated the estimate for demo and install by $500. I am now stuck searching for ikea qualified installers on my own. If you are in the philly area and need your ikea kitchen installed here is a service provider: http://jandgkitchensnremodeling.com/services_provided.html
I'm disappointed that a large company like Ikea failed to execute on what they were promising their customers.

"If you want to find The worst customer services and rude staffs and all the nasty attitudes, TRY IKEA.. YOu will find them all .
Esepcailly the store in Brooklyn , NY"
"EXTREMELLY HORRIBLE, RUDE CUSTOMER SERVICE (and my wife and I are pretty easy).
Quality of Product (furniture especially) is beyod poor and cheaply made! Furniture is partical board, which is OK given price (what I would expect for price), BUT it is not even laminated!!!! The laminate is literally a paper type product that to say is easy to break through is a huge understatement.
Again though, the extremelly rude, uncaring customer service when try to exchange or return a product is by far the worst I have ever encountered. I was refused a manager to speak to, was told too busy. When finally insisted on speaking to one, the store manager arrived and she was just as rude and uncaring as the rest!! When I told her how my wife and I were treated by customer service rep (and note, other customers in line waiting said they received same rude treatment), she simply said, "OK...what do you want me to do"!!"
"I had a bad experience with their delivery service in New York City. My order was delayed, it arrived late and it was damaged.
When I spoke to a representative at Ikea's customer service on several occasions I was given different answers. They were unable to replace the part in a timely fashion and no compensation was offered or given. So, if you need anything from Ikea, I highly recommend purchasing it and picking it up in person. I will never use their delivery service again and I will do my best to avoid their customer service department. "
"The good part; Bought a complete Kitchen cabinet set (14) plus appliances. Was delivered to our home from Ikea warehouse. It came in 177 pieces (bags, boxes, and envelops ) We could not make any sense of what was what. We could nor correlate our purchase list with the shipping list with the parts numbers showed on line !!! THE BAD PART; NO ONE ANSWERS CUSTOMER SUPPORT CALLS NOT EVEN WHEN YOU SELECT SALES NO MATTER HOW LONG YOU STAY ON THE PHONE!! A MACHINES COMES PICKS-UP! AFTER SEVERAL ATTEMPTS WE RETURNED THE FULL ORDER OF MORE THAN $7,000.OO !! "
