"Intrex isn't a company that I would place any trust in.

When I brought in an old PC of mine, they charged $40.00 ($50.00 as of 08/01/11) as a diagnostic fee. In my case, they found that my motherboard was going bad. So, I listened to them and purchased one of their systems. However, since I wanted to keep my DVD and my hard drive for backups, I decided to have them put it in. That cost was an additional $30.00 per drive. When I asked if they could apply the initial $40.00 toward the purchase of the new system, I was told that's not company policy. They also slap a sticker on the tower of the PC that serves as their “warranty” - Essentially, if you open up the case and the seal is damaged, you have the distinct pleasure to give them $50.00 again for checking the dive.

Fast forward 18 months. My DVD and the second hard drive died on me. Since the seal on the case wasn't broken, I brought it back to Intrex for examination and remedy. After a few days, I received a phone call, telling me that the PC is ready, but no further examination. When I arrived, I was informed that the DVD Drive went bad and that caused the hard drive not to be recognized anymore. A new DVD drive would run me $30.00 plus tax. Total cost. So, I figured why not and let them handle it. Three days later, I arrive to pick up my computer. Only now, I was told since the drive wasn't originally purchased there, I had to pay an additional $30.00 for labor. And if you would think the DVD drive was anything special for now $60.00 – think again. When I pointed out that I was told a mere two days before that there wouldn't be any additional cost, I was essentially told that this is tough luck and to suck it up. Upon arrival at home, I turned on the computer, to find the DVD drive works fine, but the hard drive has still the same problem. After another 30 minutes drive back to the store, I told the employees over there what happened and they finally foxed it, saying that the old hard drive had leftovers from another Operating System on there and that caused the conflict. Considering that I used this drive as a primary drive in my old computer, I would say that is accurate. But why did it show up suddenly and not right after I purchased the computer? A question the people at Intrex weren't able to answer. However, in their eternal generosity, they didn't charge me anything for the second visit that day.

What concerns me is that nobody bothers to call and inform you of the additional charge or that they even tested the computer after putting the DVD drive in. All in all, this PC has cost me almost twice as much as if I had purchased it from one of the big guys that advertise on TV all the time, with less restrictions about opening the device.

Final thoughts:
Ordinarily, I am a big believer in supporting local businesses and keep the money in the community, but after this ordeal, I am certainly not going back to this place.

If you are a PC user and know how to do anything, whether it be replacing/adding RAM or checking the component cables, stay away from this place. They will make sure that they are getting every last Dollar out of you while they can.

"i went to the durham store and looked around, prices had stayed the same, where as other places prices had gone down substantially, limited amount of stock, they only seem to carry d-link LAN/network products, personally i have had really bad trouble with d-link. the prices at intrex are way out of a ballpark, its like they order their stuff off newegg and then sell it for 7 or 10 bucks more. stay away from intrex, yes they are hungry for money now... oh well, i think i'll never buy from them again, i think i would rather ship it over night from some company on the internet and pay 15 dollars more than buying it from intrex.

STAY AWAY

"Intrex was at one point one of the better places to buy. But recent "changes" have left them as one of the WORST now. They are dropping the "little" reseller accounts and putting them on regular RETAIL pricing. Also The Central Office in Raleigh is filled with Arrogant help. It's very obvious that the once customer-oriented business has now shifted to money hungry greed.I will never buy from Intrex again, and I am sure a lot of others will take that stance as well once they get the royal shaft for "not buying enough". STAY AWAY FROM INTREX."
