"Watching your How-To video of a Comet pump water seal repair was a confidence builder to tackle a leaking AR pump. Further I was pleased to find that JN's price for the water seal kit was much lower than the regional AR North America quote. I received the Pump Seal Kit AR-1857 in a somewhat crushed genuine AR box. In it however was an unsealed bag with the expected seals plus an obviously used (damaged, scuffed-up, scarred) white seal of the type seen in the Comet video, yet apparently not part of the AR-1857 kit.
Upon removal of the pump from the body, I noticed a minute length-wise crack in the middle piston.. Since spending another $108 + shipping for a piston kit was beyond my wife's tolerance for my machine I just reassembled the pump with the AR-1857 kit hoping that the new seals would remedy the issue. Alas, it did NOT! I would guess that the same original supply pressure leak is allowing water to get around the seal through the cracked piston.
Now I am left with the nagging question of --- Were my seals used or not?
My bottom line is that I have the same low pressure leak but am $82 poorer, and my wife's confidence in my skill is diminished for nothing! Very disappointing.
