"KEH has a good selection of used Leica equipment most of the time. I ordered a 35/1.4 Summilux-TL ASPH in LN- condition and paid extra for 2nd day air for shipping at checkout. The online checkout process was easy.

Then the fun began.

I should have realized something wasn't right when FedEx travel history showed nothing after initial departure from the FedEx origin facility in Lithia Springs, Georgia, a day after shipping. But delivery date was still shown as Friday by 8 pm. Since signature was required, I waited at home all day on Friday to get it.

I saw the FedEx truck drive by Friday afternoon without stopping. But since the online delivery estimate was still Friday by 8 pm, I figured they could still do it.

When nothing arrived by 7:57 pm, I called FedEx, navigated their automated answering jail tree, and requested a delivery to a FedEx office inside a Walgreen's near me. It was supposed to happen by the next business day (Monday at this point).

On Monday I called Wallgreen's to check - no package. A call to a real person at FedEx (reached after a few button presses and shouted answers) revealed the package was still at my local Albuquerque depot (at least it arrived in my city). So I requested it be transported to the nearby Wallgreen's. (That was a mistake - should have just gone to the depot and picked it up.)

So I called Wallgreen's Monday at 5 pm local time. You guessed it - no package from FedEx.

The package finally arrived at Wallgreen's on Tuesday morning, 7 days after order placement. So much for 2nd day air.

The lesson? If you can possibly avoid it, NEVER HAVE ANYTHING SHIPPED VIA FEDEX that you must have by a certain date and time. They will delay and / or lose it."
