At this point the only thing I can see about the "Safari", detector is that the reading face has no light in it and I want to us it in a old placer mine. "The unit was very easy to assemble and ready to use as the nicads came
fully charged. It was lighter than what I had expected and well-balanced.
The instructions were clear and to the point. I bought a Heathkit about
50 years ago, a couple of years before moving to my present location.
As it turned out, this location is loaded with iron-bearing rocks which made
that unit quite useless. Of course, the technology incorpoared into the Garmin
is light-years ahead of anything I ever used. The only thing remaining is to
field-test the detector however, even though we're a third way into Spring,
Winter has refused to ease up on the icy and soggy grip it has on us. So,
the final phase will have to wait a little longer.

As for the Kelly Company, they delivered everthing promised, quickly and in a
well protected package. If there are any less than positive comments I may make
in all candor, it would be these. I really felt that the the patches,shovel etc. were
not only unnecessary but IMHO "cheapened" the detector itself. I understand
why they were included but, that sort of stuff tended to detract from my focus
from the prime reason for my purchase. Personally, I would have preferred
something like a credit towards the purchase of a useful accessory such as a
larger coil, or anything else that might enhance the performance of the product.
Even the earphones will not be useful to me. Of course, you have the advanage of knowing what optimally works best for you. Please accept these comments
in the spirit in which they are offered; i.e. in a constructive manner.
