"DO NOT DO business with this company - they commit fraud by lying about what people return and then charge additional money against your credit card. I rented One text book for the one course I was taking, and returned that same text in excellent condition to them. I then received an email stating I returned the wrong book - a totally different text - in horrible condition. Emails, phone calls did not help. They even said a supervisor checked the inventory and she couldn't find one book with my ISBN number (what are the odds of that?). I have filed complaints against them with my credit card, Kentucky's BBB, and NYS Consumer Protection. But in the end it will be my word against theirs, since I don't have proof of what was in the mailing (who would have thought to do that?) I have a feeling they will win, as they seem to do in so many of these unfortunate cases. Again, DON'T DO BUSINESS WITH THEM!"

"I will never use this company ever again. After being a good costumer for a couple of years now, I returned my book a few days late because it was the week of Christmas and I work in retail. The day I returned it I received an emailed saying that I have been charged the full listing price for the textbook which was $72. After emailing back and forth for about a week because they take days to reply, the told me the only thing they could do was refund me 50%. This is not costumer service. They basically stole my money and have their book to rent out and make more money off of. From the other reviews I have seen, this company should probably change the way the conduct business with college students who don't have the money to purchase books which is why they rent in the first place. Enjoy the $30 and I will never use your service again."

"I regret not having done my homework first on this shabby outfit. Their business tactics are akin to highway robbery. Yes, their rental prices are cheaper than most, but it is apparently a loss leader to get you to rent, and that's when they have you! I rented a paperback book for Cultural Anthropology for roughly $35.00. My semester ended just before the holidays. Then, on December 30th, I got charged the full retail price(over inflated to put it bluntly) of $205.00! Ok, I did not get on returning the book the day my semester ended, but once I got charged I sent it back. Despite the books flawless condition, they only refunded half! I could have rented it for another year for the same amount! I called customer service and waited 45 minutes before being told that there was nothing they could do and that it was in the agreement. I was told a supervisor would call me back, that has not happened. I strongly caution anyone to avoid this company! What seems like a good deal eventually results in you paying full price without recourse. I am going to make it my personal mission to get the word out. Social media and the world wide web are powerful tools. That, coupled with my formal complaint to the Better Business Bureau should be a nice start. Flyers pasted all over my campus, and the other campuses nearby that my work colleagues attend, should do nicely to get the word out. Do NOT USE THIS COMPANY!!!"

"I attempted to rent a book from Knetbooks for an online class for which the first assignment is due on Sunday, January 11. I placed my order on January 5 and paid the $15.99 shipping charge for two-day delivery, such that I should have received it on January 7. As of this evening on January 9, the order status shows that the book has not even shipped from their facility yet! I will be forced to purchase the book from the campus bookstore tomorrow in order to complete my assignment. Don't use Knetbooks - its countless low ratings and terrible reviews suggest that, not only is it incompetent, it regular engages in fraudulent practices.

It appears that Knetbooks is also known as ecampus.com and operates out of Lexington, Kentucky. If I run into any problems receiving a refund, I will report it to the BBB in Lexington and would suggest that the others having problems address their concerns to the BBB in Lexington as well.

"Please, DO NOT use this company. Pay the few extra dollars to go with another textbook organization.

I have had the worst experience and may be out close to $400 when all is said and done. Here is the situation I have encountered:

I accidentally mixed up two of the textbooks that were to be returned. One to another company, and one back to Knetbooks. The books got labeled wrong and were sent to the opposite companies. I got an email from Knetbooks about them receiving the incorrect book by mistake and was then threatened that if I didn't resolve this situation in a week that the incorrect textbook that belonged to the other company would be recycled and that I would owe the full cost of the book ($155) that was "missing". In my opinion, to hold something that doesn't belong to you is unethical and stealing. Especially when you have my credit card information on file as a form of collateral.

Now, since I have requested that the incorrect book be returned to me out of respect for the other company, they finally told me an order was created. First I was told that I would receive a tracking number in three days and have now been told it can take two weeks! This is no way to treat a paying customer that has been completely open about the accidental situation.

By the time this incorrect book finally gets back to me, my deadline will be coming due with the other company and I'm going to be out a ton of money. Of course, there is nothing they can do and it is out of there hands and I was hung up on by the representative in the chat room.

Please save yourselves the trouble. Accidents happen. You want a company that is going to work with you when they do. I have just been going around in circles with this company and it is clear that they don't want to help. They just want your money.

I wish I would have read the horror stories before buying in to this place. BEWARE.

"*Update! Got the book in after paying $10 more to get it shipped. Had NO TEAR or RIPS as the company accused! The service rep over the phone said I'd be due a full refund if I got my book back and it didn't have anything wrong with it, but added "if the warehouse says it is ripped, then it is ripped." It is crazy that I talk to two different service reps over the phone and online, yet get shoved away and accused of wrongdoing yet when I leave a review online, that gets the attention of the company.
Before I got book back, "Kate" replied to a post on this website saying she would help. Got 50% refund (still waiting for it to clear), but I am still owed another 50%. I have pictures and proof! I sent them to Kate. Will update when/if I get response back.*

We very simply rented a book for Fall Semester. Our girl used it for ONLY two chapters the entire semester (least used of her books). She had major jaw surgery over the break, so I personally evaluated the book, packaged the book in the appropriate box, and handed DIRECTLY to the UPS guy who took it directly to his truck.

SURPRISE! Got a charge of $165.73. When I contacted customer service through email, they said there were tears in the back cover and back pages to the book. I asked them to look at the book again, and they directed me to customer care over the phone. Over the phone, the guy read off what the "warehouse" reported was wrong, and after checking in with a superior (being on hold even longer now), he said whatever the warehouse said goes and there isn't a way to reverse it.

I paid the $10 to have it shipped back to me as the customer service guy (who did his best and was nice and understanding) said it would be the exact same book. I asked him if I had it shipped to my house for the $10, and found no tears as warehouse reported, would I get a full refund and he said he never had anyone ask that before, but to his understanding they would, but still, if the warehouse said it had tears, it had tears.

Hopefully will ship out soon and I can see this for myself. WILL NEVER rent from this place again. What kind of company charges customers (overpriced charge compared to other used and new prices from other companies) and accuses them of damage and doesn't have a review process, especially considering the human factor that they could be mistaken? Or considering customer approval ratings would be low? Sounds fishy to say the least to me.

RATING: 0/10 or 0/5. DO NOT RENT FROM KNETBOOKS.COM. Trouble all around!

"Terrible experience with Knetbooks. Recently I got an email that my credit cards were being charged over $850 due to late rental returns for books that I had extended the rental on. When I called customer service I waited on hold for over 3 hours to speak to someone. The representative told me that she couldn't find a record of my call to extend my rentals and she would need to speak with a manager and return my call first thing in the morning the following day. The representative did not return my call and I had to wait on hold again with customer service. At this time I was told that they still could not find a record of my rental extension, but as a courtesy would return 75% of the fees to my accounts upon receipt of the returned rentals. The rentals were received by Knetbooks 3 days ago and I still have not been refunded. I am becoming increasingly frustrated that such a large sum of money has been missing from my account for a mistake that was not mine. I will be pursuing this matter legally. "

"I rented a book for my daughter for first semester. The day before it was due, I got online and picked the option of renting it for second semester as well for the same rental price. I was prompted as to whether or not I wanted to use the same credit card that I had previously used, which I did. I only had to enter the security numbers on the card. I thought that was easy enough. A week later, I received an email stating the book was overdue. After two days of being on hold for hours trying to reach a live customer service rep, someone named DJ tried to help. I explained the situation and didn't know why I received the overdue email. He explained that my request for an extension must not have gone through and that I had been charged the rental price for first semester as well as the full purchase price of the book and there was nothing he could do... REALLY? He treated me as if I had made the whole thing up. Don't rent from this company - they are SCAMMERS!!!"

"DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THESE PEOPLE! I sent back my rented book 3 days late because my due date was over Christmas, and because it was over a weekend, the label was not scanned by UPS until 3 days later. They stole an exaggerated "full price" amount from my bank account while the book was in transit to them! I was left with no book, no money, and no help. Horrible rental company. I am filing a claim with the FTC and having the student body president warn the students of my 45,000 person university to boycott."

"This is horrible. I rented 2 textbooks from Knetbooks.com. Printed out my return labels on time before due date. Had it at my front office at my job for UPS pickup since they come in all the time. I just got a charge for the rental purchase today of 435 dollars when the two books do not even worth that amount! I checked back at the office this morning because I got a charge and UPS never took my package. They are the old editions book. I want a full refund because this is basically robbery. "

"I purchased a book for my son's fall semester class and returned them in December. I physically inspected the book before I returned it. There was no damage to the book. I received an email stating the book was returned damaged and that I would be charged for the book. I called customer service and was told that I was charged $205.00 the day prior to the email for a used book that supposedly had a torn cover. I asked the CR (Denia) to speak to a manger about the damage they claim and I was told the manager went down to retrieve the book and I was asked if maybe the book had a torn cover when I received it. I left a message for the manager to return my call. This is the holidays!!! I felt I should've been notified before the transaction for the book was placed to my account. I know for a fact the book was not damaged!!!!!! I'm very dissatisfied with the customer service I received!!!"

"Warning to call potential renters!!!!! This company will scam you on late fees. First off, they never sent me any notice that my books were due. They will claim they did but once you continue you on with your customer service request you will see that is a lie. They did send a notice saying they were charging my card $340 however. I immediately sent in a customer service request and got an email saying they will respond back as quickly as possible. Its been a month now and no response yet. When I got a hold of an agent on the phone she said it didn't matter that I didn't get an email because its still my responsibility to keep track of the return date. I'll take that as my fault but every other company out there will send a reminder. Seems to me knetbooks.com found a way to scam money from students with astronomical late fees. I got the books returned right away as soon as I saw they were late and eventually they returned half the money. When I asked why the late fee is so high, the customer service agent told me that the money I got back was out of courtesy. What kind of joke is that? Do yourself a favor and avoid this company at all costs."

"I ordered so I could get my books in 7 business days. It is passed 7 business days. One book has a USPS tracking nu,ber that is not found in USPS system and Knetbboks can't tell me where it is. They state it should show up by Friday. I needed it by Wednesday. I feel that book they should do a one day oveernight so I have it here by Friday for sure with a actual confirmation tracking number. Fed Ex it or something to keep your customer happy. My other book was suppose to be here by Wednesday also. That one is showing a tracking by UPS by Monday and Knetbooks said it would for sure be here by Friday. I feel they should call UPS and make it a one ship so I get it by Friday. At least then , I would be slightly happy and I would then change my review. But so far it is not looking good at all! I am getting very nervous. I never used them before but they need to call or do something to get me these books by Friday. They have a tracking # for UPS on one book call them and make it ship in one day . It is already pass my 7 business day. The other book ship it one day overnight. If the other book comes eventually I would ship it back. I have called customer service over 3 times. Frustrated!!!!"
