"We have had an excellent experience at La Petite, Sugarland over the years. From infant to pre-k, we have been pleased with the care, safety, and education provided to our children each step of the way.
We initially chose the school based on our findings on the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services website that audits safety protocols and where any reported safety incidents are published. La Petite Sugarland had very limited findings which was vital for us when looking for infant care.
Since then our kids have come home with high vocabulary (our son could say and identify a hexagon before age 2), strategies for feelings management and great memories and stories of each of their favorite teachers. We would recommend La Petite Sugarland to anyone in the area looking for a great care and education center that puts highest priority on the safety of the kiddos in their care.
Big shout out to the Director, Petra Edwards, and some of our favorite teachers: Ms. Nasreen, Ms. Vanessa, Ms. Delores (Ms. D), Ms. Tanya, Ms. Cindy, not to mention so many of the good ones that are no longer there. Ms. Petra takes a lot of pride in finding the best talent for her team. Thanks for everything you all do!"
"All of the teachers and administrators are so caring and loving towards my son. There isn't another child care facility I would consider."
"I guess seeing the results of my child talking more than before. More interaction with us."
"On 9/15/20, my husband and I viewed our 3-year-old son on the school's live camera feed/app. We then witnessed a horrifying incident precipitated by the lead teacher.
It was nap time, and our son was not tired and did not want to lay down. We then witnessed this teacher, over the span of several minutes, physically mishandle and assault our child three separate times.
My husband first alerted me to watch the camera when he witnessed the teacher pick our son up and throw him onto his cot forcefully, and then, aggressively and angrily throw his blanket on him. In disbelief, I then began watching the camera app on my phone as well and saw her do the same and this time also throw the blanket at his head. Finally, we saw him seated on the cot, but still squirming around, and watched the teacher grab and shake his arm, which then caused his body to **** around, while visibly chastising him. Unfortunately, there is no audio on the app and we could not hear the abusive things she may have very well said to our child in addition to her inappropriate physical behavior. We then immediately called and advised the co-director about what we were viewing.
When I went to pick up my son, the co-director advised that, although they had not yet viewed the video, the teacher ADMITTED to what she had done. She stated that the teacher explained that "She basically got into a fight with a 3-year-old." I was stunned.
We contacted the director who at no point seemed remarkably apologetic. She first replied and indicated they could/would not immediately suspend or dismiss the teacher due to company policy/procedure but she mostly spoke about being understaffed due to COVID-19 and recent high turnover. As she had done in some of our previous interactions, she bad mouthed current and previous teachers and explained that she though they all just "don't want to work and want to get on COVID unemployment because they think they can make more money." At one point she told my husband that years ago her child was hit by a daycare teacher and that, after speaking to the daycare, she allowed her child to go back to the daycare. She also indicated that she could not provide us with an alternate on-site care option for our child because they were understaffed. We, again, were stunned. How could this incident have been seen with our own eyes, recorded on video and admitted to by the teacher but lack immediate consequence (or at minimum suspension during investigation)???
Dissatisfied with this nonsensical response, we then spoke to the district manager. She was slightly more informative but equally blasé in tone about the incident. She indicated that per company policy, they would err on the side of whatever the Department of Family and Protective Services advised they should do following their investigation. She also advised that the director should have worked with us to find a solution for our child's care at the center until this situation was resolved.
Finally, we contacted their corporate offices and we were put in touch with their regional manager. Although markedly "nicer," he repeated much of the same rhetoric. He also indicated that the daycare was well within their staff ratio and means to have found an alternate caretaker for our child, at minimum, during the investigation. To that point he indicated he would get back with us and today, 3 days later and 3 messages later, he has yet to do.
Naturally, due the incident itself and the dismissive and inappropriate nature in which La Petite Academy Sugar Land handled the overall situation, we had and have no intent on sending our son back to the school. We assumed, as most parents would, that since this was on tape, immediate dismissal would occur. At worst, we assumed that during the state investigation La Petite would remove the teacher from the immediate vicinity of other children for their potential safety. We assumed wrong.
We are truly shocked and disheartened. For the sake of the children still in their care, we can only hope La Petite will eventually do the right thing."
"We love school! My son has grown so much and loves his teachers and friends!"
"Love the school and feel very safe with the care of the teachers."
"It makes me so happy to see my daughter smile and nod yes every morning when my wife asks her “ are you ready to go to school?”"
"This is the first school my son has ever attended. After a month of attending he started talking more and learn how to interact with kids. Love that he loves his teacher. He gets happy to see her every morning."
"My son started La Petite when he was 8 weeks old. This year will he will be starting Kindergarten and saying good bye to all the friends he made between the kids and the teachers. My son enjoyed every class he was in from infant room to the Pre-K and every teacher that he met. We will miss all the teachers at La Petite but look forward to the summer to come when he is able to go back and be a part of the school again. "
"We've had great experience with the school. I get a little worried that my son doesn't have easy access to food and water or milk."
"My experience has been phenomenal! My child enjoys coming to La Petite on a daily basis and smiles everytime we pull into the parking lot. I love how she is learning all kinds of new things (Signing/ Potty training, etc), I love my interaction with the teachers and staff."
"Great place to have your children! Atmosphere of the school is caring and fun! Children love their teachers and the teachers provide care and are nurturing."
"The staff is amazing especially Ms. Tanya. My son always has nice things to say about her. Also, Ms. Petra has answered all my questions and follows up. I appreciate their time and attention that they display to both children and parents."
"I might not have seen it but a visual of the letters and reviewing them daily as well as a visual of numbers and colors."
"Staff is friendly. The cameras make a huge difference to me. Being abke to see my kid any time of day means a lot to me. And makea me far more trusting of the school. I don't trust anybody with my kid and wouldn't use a daycare without cameras. It also allows me to see that the staff is being caring and giving my kid all the attention she needs."
