"LabCorp Price Gouging
LabCorp bills $377 in MD, $120 in Virginia
I had some simple blood tests performed that I thought were covered by my insurance, but weren't. The mistake was mostly mine, and I'm obliged to pay for them.
However, I'm only obliged to pay a fair price, not an outrageously inflated one, particularly not one that unfairly targets Marylanders.
Labcorp charges Marylanders $377 for these tests, but only $120 in 45 other states including Virginia, for exactly the same tests. And that's not counting the 15% off promotional coupon, which reduces the price to $102. And that's for individuals with no insurance – corporations typically pay only $40 to $70, and from one group Labcorp accepts as little as $17.40. Clearly $377 is far greater than a fair price.
I've offered three times to pay the individual's typical national fee of $120.00 for the tests, including once by certified mail, and each time LabCorp has ignored or rejected my offer without explanation. Perhaps their debt collection agency will be more reasonable.
Any help you could provide would be greatly appreciated – for example, calling LabCorp, asking "Hey, are you guys really doing this to Marylanders?", and citing my complaint as your reason for calling.
