"This Guy Mark Mcnamara is a crook and a very unpleasant fellow. I was quite simply gouged meaning that they ripped me off. Opportunistic slime! Stay away.
They contacted me to "fix" the problem. No interest! This is a small community and I trusted them and they took advantage of that."
"My recent experience with Landfall Navigation has been my worst online shopping experience in years. Their sales director, Mark McNamara, describes his own site to be "a scam" which he "personally avoids"...
After submitting my order online, I was presented with a page confirming that my credit card had been charged (over $900) and stating "Your purchase at Landfall Navigation qualifies you to a $100 reward". Thinking this was a coupon for a future purchase at Landfall I clicked to "continue" to the offer. At this point my browser told me it had blocked a popup window, and asked if I wanted to enable popups from the site. I clicked 'enable popups', but when the page refreshed it did not contain any reference to the $100 reward. Apparently there was a bug in the site, preventing me from getting the coupon.
I then called in to the 800 number and spoke with a guy identifying himself as "Mark McNamara, Sales Director" and explained the problem. Mark was adamant that there was no such coupon/rebate/reward/offer of any kind on the site and that he knows because he "uses the site every day". No matter how carefully I explained my experience he dismissively and unapologetically denied the site had any such feature. Finally, I had him cancel my order so I could go online and place it again. This time I took screenshots of the site and of the coupon and emailed them to him.
Faced with photographic evidence, Mark recanted his initial story that there was no such feature on the site and explained that the 'reward' was actually an offer to purchase magazines at a discount. This time he claimed the feature was "a scam" which he "personally avoids" when shopping online. He offered no explanation for:
a) Why Landfall Navigation would have a feature on their site which they know to be a scam
b) Why he denied the existence of this scam when I first talked to him
During the entire episode he never thought to apologize for scamming me or lying to me - he maintained an attitude of annoyed dismissal. Hard to imagine how this guy got to be sales director.
Moral of the story - avoid Landfall Navigation and avoid Mark McNamara if you don't want to be scammed."
"Although these charts are advertised on the web site as water-resistant with a tough coating for longer life, it looks like nothing but a little thicker paper. Thusfar I have not found GPS coordinates printed, and the chart is non-returnable."
