Well, I'm a happy fellow here.
The battery arrived on Friday, the 27th. It fit perfectly and was at 100% when I started the laptop.
Laptop seemed to be a bit flustered by having a good battery, but it was nothing a bit of tweaking and a couple of restarts couldn't clear up.
Now, the Compal NBLB3120004 is ticking over just fine, and seems happier and faster than ever, though confirmation bias may have something to do with this.
I had hoped for a serendipitous fix of my system clock problem, but that seems to have been a bit of a pipe dream.
I'm in the second round of the initial battery conditioning process, and have calendared the initial and monthly rounds so I don't let it slide. Never got that sort of instruction from the tech who built it for me.
By the way, what do I do with the defunkt battery?
