"I had ordered a part that I thought I lost.
They ordered it for me for delivery and install at their location.
The morning came and would you believe it.. I found the missing treasure!
Acting within integrity and owning my actions for asking them to order the item and they did, I decided to still drive 1.5 hours through rush hour traffic and tolls to get there to pay for the ordered part.
After arriving I stepped up and they looked up my info and I told them I didn't need it anymore as I located what I thought I lost.
Summarily, they told me not to worry about purchasing it as someone else will need it, and if I didn't need why would they force someone to pay hundreds of dollars for something they didn't need.
Left with a smile and a happy bank account because that item was over $500.
It left me knowing the service department is looking after my best interest and not there to make a quick buck.
I've heard horror stories how some places don't do anything on service as you can't see what they are doing but they log the regular preventative service anyway, and some create more issues or a sense of fear for you to replace or pay for something you really don't need (at least at the time of review), I recall when I was a child my family drove down to Disney from NY and we had a flat. We pulled into a Firestone and the garage laid on the scare tactics. I was convinced as a kid, my father was not - so we turned down the upsells and went on our merry way... and never had an issue after the flat. As an adult you learn things, about people, and trust as you evolve into the real world. I hate to say it, but we live in a land of angels and demons. It is why we don a protective suit when we deal with those we do not know well or have done business with already. The experience with the agent at the service station created a space where I felt, at least that agent, wasn't going to snow me.
I don't know about you but good mechanics and reputable auto shops are hard to find unless you are personal friends with someone on the inside. Dealerships are always pricier than third party shops but since they focus on repairing and troubleshooting your brand they are more likely to do it right the first time - thereby saving you money and frustration."
