"Wish I had found this web site before I ordered my light. Same experience. Was charged for it immediately. Ordered a light fixture on May 1, 2011, it has been postponed on backorder with no explanation 4 times now. Expected due date now: November 18, 2011. Are they just collecting interest on the money they collect in advance? After reading these reviews, my next battle will be to get my money back for a very expensive lamp (almost $500) "

"Good prices and shipping.
Poor customer service- slow to respond, do not know the products well. I asked not to get something in a product and CS. said it was not that way. When I received the items they had the bad issues I asked to avoid.
Slow to respond also to pricing quotes.

Will try going elsewhere when I can

"I ordered 3 pendant lights from Lighting Direct. I received them quickly and in good condition. The lights, however, were not going to work for me. So I returned them. 12 days after they received my shipment I called (for the second time) looking for my money back. Finally, a guy told me the credit has been approved. I'm not sure why I had to call twice for this. Then I receive an email saying that it will take up to 10 days to get my money back, "if it is approved". I am very disappointed about the service I have received. Now I wonder whether or not I have been scammed.

I own rental properties and work for a major apartment operator that owns 50000+ apartment units. I will never recommend them to anyone. Selection and price are not everything in business. Service is as important, if not more so.

"have ordered from them twice and have been happy with them twice! Great customer service and products are all new (no second hand). They price match any internet competitor. I just saved more than $160 on a chandelier with their price match! Got it today, only two day delivery. Would highly recommend them to purchase......"

"I found myself in need of a new light post (with photocell) and post lamp in a short time period (1 week). I basically had 7 days to purchase these items to be ready installation by the electrician. I thought Lowes and Home Depot would have something to my satisfaction but I was wrong. So I took to the internet and found what I loved on LightingDirect.com. Like the informed buyer that I am I checked ResellerRatings.com and was fairly disappointed in the reviews and definitely nervous to purchase.

Most of the negative reviews seemed to be based on internet orders. So I waited till the next morning (Tuesday Nov. 9) and called to speak with a CSR. I explained my situation of needing these 2 items quickly and they needed to be guaranteed for delivery on my time line. The CSR (Todd at ext 749) took the time to call both manufactures and secured a guaranteed delivery date of the week’s end (Fri Nov 12) from both, separate manufactures. Based on his promise, I decided to take the dive. I had a connection, felt comfortable with him, and thought I’ve got to at least try.

There was one hiccup where the manufacturer sent an email saying the item was backordered. I called Todd immediately and he was off……but he left another name and extension number on his message for his customers to speak to. I contacted him and he promptly contacted the manufacturer, and they said, ‘our error – his item already shipped, here’s the shipping number’!!

Both items arrived, perfectly, one day EARLIER than their promised date. Everything was perfect. I even got a follow up phone call from Todd the day they were delivered saying, “I see we have two delivered packages”!! What service! If you have any questions about them – CALL them. DON’T just order and hope. Talk to them and tell them your expectations. They will tell you if it’s possible. Oh, and enjoy their great prices too! First class!

"I ordered two lamps from lightingdirect.com in January of 2010. One lamp shipped within a reasonable time and it was received in good condition. So when I was told the second lamp would take a little longer I thought nothing of it. I later received an email stating the delivery of the lamp would be delayed until March of 2010. In March I was told the item had been “forwarded to [their] warehouse and [is] being prepared for shipment” but would not ship until May 11. Meanwhile, the item was listed on their web page as able to ship in 1-2 weeks. When I asked why it would take so long to processes the item at their warehouse I was told they did not have it and the manufacture would be sending more. It is now November, almost a full year after I ordered the item, and I still have not received it. The item is still listed on lightingdirect’s webpage for sale. http://www.lightingdirect.com/meyda-tiffany-77774-craftsman-mission-accent-table-lamp-from-the-arts-crafts-collection/p276134 Even though they have told me the lamp is on extended back-order. I will continue to review this site until I receive my lamp or until they properly list the status of the lamp on their webpage.

This is an update to my post. It is now Jan of 2011 and the above mentioned lamp is now scheduled to arrive in April. If it is delivered by April it will be over a year late!

"Ordered merchandise on 6/12/10....LightingDirect(Build.com)will happily take your money long before anything is shipped. Absolutely no indication that any items are on back order. It is now Oct. 21 and I am still waiting for my fan lights. NEVER again! "

"We placed a large order for all lighting fixtures in a new house using LightingDirect.com (aka Build.com) using their builder discount program and found their pricing (discounts on lighting fixtures can be very significant if you can work through a builder), service and delivery just fine. We had to cancel one item because it became unavailable and a credit was issued quickly. We also had one damaged glass shade which the account rep we dealt with replaced without question. Everything appeared to be drop shipped but all arrived within a few days in separate shipments. Anyway, it's a shame other reviewers didn't have comparable experiences but we're happy with this company and would recommend them."

"I went to their site and I see the item I want is listed in stock for immediate delivery, many available in stock and they offer overnight or 2 day shipping, just what I needed.(I was fooled, but did not know it yet) I order the lights (Thomas Ligghting, bath light bars - 2)and pay for 2 day shipping. Order confirmation comes back and says items are "Backordered". I immediately email customer service to request cancellation and receive a confirmation response from Mr. Sanchez that says: order cancelled. All is well, I think...wrong again...I then receive a an email a couple days later that says "order is in process", estimated shipping on (date). I contact Lighting Direct again and am told by Mr Sanchez that order could not be stopped. I state I will refuse delivery and he says do not do that, you will not get a refund/credit or it will not be in a timely manner. I remind him that he confirmed cancellation and that the date for item is past the time I need it for the contractor to install. He says no problem, they will issue a return # and I will ship back for immediate credit. Problem is, I discover later, I have to pay postage to return and it is very expensive to ship two bulky items. They should have paid for return since their site was wrong on inventory availabilty and their advertising was deceptive and their documented and stated cancellation of order was incorrect. Do not do business with them, I even had to re-wrap the boxes to protect the unopened original shipping containers to assure I "might" get a refund. I had the opposite experience withone of their competitor's Bellacor - 1st rate service, honest inventory/sales practices and great help and returns were easy - try them instead. Amazon.com is another GREAT choice you can trust."

"Their customer service and back end process suck and are very slow. I do not want to buy anything from them again. If you are comfortable with very very slow and inefficient service, go head and buy things from them!!!!



I originally ordered 4 "Sea Gull Lighting 44790" and 2 "Nuvo Lighting 60/494" from them. When I ordered online, I made sure they are in stock and could be shipped within a few days (based on what they advertised on their website) because I am in process of remodeling and I don't want to wait for weeks.
The 2 "Nuvo Lighting 60/494" did arrive quickly on June 16 without any problem. However the 2nd items never arrived and I was wondering why. The I found out via chatting with their CSR online that the items actually were not available until August. No email and no communication after they found out the stock is insufficient to fill my order. Ended up requesting cancellation of order and refund on June 25.

Then what happened to the 2 items shipped to me? I found out the they may be too big to fit my bathroom before I opened the box so I requested the RGA (return #100725SE) on June 28 and based on what they advertised it should come within 3-5 days. However it never came until on July 8, a few days after I made another inquiry with CSR. OK finally I could returned it! however the nightmare has not finished yet. I used USPS service with tracking and delivery confirmation to return the 2 items and the USPS record shows it delivered on July 26. Today is Aug 12, two weeks from then, I have not heard anything from them!!!!! SO I talked with their CSR online AGAIN~~~~the answer is he doesn't know what happened in the warehouse and is requesting credit for me today.

"This is the second and last that I've ordered from them. Both times I've placed an order for lights that were shown to be in stock then days after my order had been processed I receive an email stating that my order has been cancelled because my item has been discontinued. If it was discontinued why is it lited on their website? In one case it showed that there were 33 of the lights I wanted in stock. I even received an email after I placed my order that the lights were pulled and were ready to be shipped. So what happened? Did their warehouse person see a mirage?

I've sent several emails to their customer service dept. and haven't received a single response. The only reason I placed a second order is because their prices were a lot lower than their competitors, but I guess it's not hard to lower your prices on an item when you don't have it in stock.
Save your time and a headache and shop somewhere else.

"DO NOT ORDER FROM THIS COMPANY!!! The only thing it cares for is money in its pocket. Regrettably, its concern with your customer satisfaction is not on its priority list.

I've ordered 6 Murray Feiss lighting fixtures on October 4, 2009 via telephone. At the time of placing the order, their sales representative told me that all the items were in stock and that I was supposed to surely receive them in accordance with the company's policy dealing with shipments to Canada (I am from Richmond Hill, Ontario). The same sales rep told me that I was supposed to also receive e-mail notifications as soon as the items will ship, in order for me to be kept up to date with the order as well as to be able to track the parcels. I've waited until this morning (October 26, 2009) for some info to come about in regard to my shipment but to no avail. So, I decided to call Improvement Direct and find out what's happening!!! To my surprise, the sales rep I spoke to this time said that my order never shipped because 5 of the 6 lighting fixtures I've ordered are not in stock and they will NEVER be in stock. Why? Well, because apparently the manufacturer (Murray Feiss) discontinued the 5 items and has no more stock available.

I asked the sales rep why was I not informed of this situation when I placed the order or at any time during this over-three-weeks wait. She said that there was a human error involved in my order and that, somehow, my order appeared in their records as being dealt with in a professional and fine manner (that is... the items were in stock and were going to be shipped to me).

In the end I cancelled the order today but, to add to my unhappiness, I just realized that at the time I placed the order (paying with a CAD VISA for lighting fixtures priced in USD) the USD/CAD exchange rate was 1.1 whereas now it is 1.05 ... aspect which is going to cause me a CAD $80.00 loss. And for what? For losing my time waiting to receive NOTHING... not to mention that I needed the fixtures to install in a home which I want to sell soon.

So, STAY AWAY!!! YOU DEFINITELY HAVE SOMETHING BETTER TO DO WITH YOUR TIME AND MONEY.

A very disappointed customer.

"I've placed a total of three orders (significant quantities of fixtures, various brands) beginning May 6. Prices have been good (better the larger the order), and service excellent. In-stock items have been shipped quickly, and company sends updates on the progress of items whose shipment is delayed due to special order.
Freight delivery instructions are very specific, and when I needed to return an item when color or size didn't work as expected, they sent the necessary information for return exactly as stated on the website.
This excellent experience helped reverse the negative opinion I'd developed from a recent experience with another online retailer. I'm continuing to buy from this company and other vendors in their network because of these consistent positive experiences. Highly recommend.
