"I started my Captains journey by trying to do the test preparation on my own with books. I quickly realized that this was an impossible approach and looked for an approved USCG training provider with a comprehensive program. I considered a near-by training partner that had an in-person classroom and also online videos of their classes. I also looked at the MLS information and samples of their on-line program. Either would probably give the the needed training, but I didn't want to travel, and the in-person training was much more expensive, not counting the travel and lodging expense.
MLS offered a buy-one get-one package and I found a guy that wanted his OUPV license, so we both signed up.
Except for the shipping cost of the package materials the price of the course includes everything including testing.
I have been using computers for years for my job, so the online approach was no problem, but the course is designed well and is easy to navigate and understand. If you have even basic EMAIL and WEB-Surfing skills you should not have any problem.

You can work at your own pace, and can repeat sections as many times as you want, including the quizzes and tests. Be sure to do both the lectures and the readings on topics to get all the info needed to pass that section.

for OUPV and above you have to demonstrate charting skills. The videos are good in getting you going on how to do the needed charting exercises. I personally like charts and thought this section was enjoyable; it is satisfying to go through an exercise and find that you found the correct spot on the chart.

The proof of the pudding is when you are taking the test. A huge benefit of MLS is that they have their own tests and test facilities. You are tested on the knowledge gained in their program, so if you do well in the program you should do well on the test(s).
You have to wait two weeks to take the test, so during this time I reviewed the entire courses (I took 3; OUPV, Masters, and sailing). I re-took the quizzes and the tests several times until I had them nearly perfect. I did notice that I quickly exhausted the inventory of questions for each topic, so I found myself remembering the question and correct answer for that question. This is not good, as you start to just memorize answers. They tell you to be careful not to do this, so I focused on why the answer was correct, and reviewed the lecture and reading again to support the answer.

When I sat for the tests, for the most part I had no problem figuring out the correct answers. I did hit a few that were worded differently or in a tricky way, so you have to be really careful when you read the questions. I also saw a couple questions that I wasn't prepared for, but only a couple, and I think I passed easily.
Overall I give MLS an "A". They were responsive to my questions, I will go back to them for future training and endorsements, and was very satisfied."

"I think it would have been nice to know that paying for a bundle FCC test course only included the exams and that the practice books were a totally separate thing. If bundled exams were going to be offered, I think bundled texts should be a thing, too. I realized my mistake, and went ahead and purchased the books. Luckily I have time since I activated the "courses" not realizing they weren't courses at all (really just the countdown to one year's time to taking the exams and not actual courses). "

I'm close to finishing the course but apparently the puppy was mad that I spent more time on the chart than him so he retaliated when I wasn't looking. I just ordered a new map. Thanks Lisa !!"
