The Absolute Worst Customer Service Experience of My Life

"I canceled an order minutes after placing it, but Menards failed to act, shipping the item and charging a 25% restocking fee. Customer service, led by Laura S., took 24 hours per response, lied about contacting the store manager, and falsely claimed I agreed to the fee. Frustrated, I called the store manager myself—he resolved the issue in under 10 minutes. Menards’ online team showed negligence, dishonesty, and no urgency. This experience highlights their disgraceful lack of care for customers."

Inferior products and no help when their products fail

"We bought dozens of expensive sheets of pressure-treated plywood from Menards. Some of it began to delaminate within weeks, so we didn't use those portions. But now, within one year after installation, the installed pieces are delaminating left and right, especially the pieces that got wet. Old regular plywood is still holding up under the same conditions, but this new Menards plywood is bubbling out everywhere. Looks terrible. The whole project will have to be torn down, and all Menards plywood will have to be replaced. An extensive job, all over again, at a very high cost, AGAIN!"

Horrible CO

"Menards is a horrible comapny, they do not stand behind there products or the warranties. Do not buy from them. Purchased $4300 in flooring from menards, that had a warranty. It lasted 4 months, menards sent an inspector and i was told it was installed wrong. I had someone install it who knows how to do flooring. Menards does not stand behind there products or there warranty. Now I have ruined flooring in half my house and 44 boxes unopened that I dont want to use, because its junk. Do not trust Menards or there warranties"

I would have gave 0 stars however it wouldn't allow me

"I wanted to get the word out to everyone just in case you haven't came across this to avoid this from happening to you.

DO NOT SUPPORT MENARDS!

We purchased a vanity on 4-13-2021 and with major shipping delays due to the pandemic which is understandable we have been patient to finally have arrive 3-21-2022.

We picked up the same day later realized not all the parts were included and a major crack. Due to all the delays we decided to return it.

I purchased with a credit card and paid this a year ago and the only solution is an in store credit. No flexibility at all. I really don't need anything right now that I don't want a $640 going to an in store credit. I understand the 90 day return policy however the item didn't arrive in 90 days and it was defective again not in my control.

I lost out of the intreste I could have made on that, I had major building delays caused by this, the extra gas to return and so forth.

Why is it so hard for a company to do good to customers when all I'm asking is a refund back the way I purchased it.

Furniture companies don't charge until it has been delivered. If Menards did this than I wouldn't have had any issues returning it in the 90 days. With the pandemic and shipping delays this is out of our control.

Share this so that we the people can stop getting stomped on. Let our voices be heard.

I sent this to the BBB and in the process of seeing what other options I have. Just don't let this be YOU as it's unfair when I did everything correct.

Never buy a building kit from Menards!!

"About the first of September, I ordered a 16x24 garage kit from the NW Menards in Wichita, KS. From the day of delivery the nightmare began.
We began to realize that some of what was on the order weren't delivered and some items delivered weren't on the order! After much frustration, I asked for someone to come out and look the situation over and bring what was supposed to be delivered, and take back the stuff that wasn't on the order! Of course, they couldn't do that!!
The first real major problem was that we were short two rafters. When I called I was told it would take 4-6 weeks to have them ready!! We ended up making our own. Later on, when it was time to place them and deck the roof, we discovered that they were made with the worst lumber they could find on location, I guess. They were extremely crooked and it was a battle to get them lined up correctly.
I could go on and on about the extra trips, the worthless apologies, and an attitude that we just don't freaking care!!
Today, I just returned over $1,300 dollars of unused material. Some items were like the gutters. I decided to go seamless. I also returned the two walk-in doors I had ordered. I had been told by two other contractors that they have had nothing but trouble with doors from Menards.
Once the assistant manager started going through all the junk, he began to realize the true extent of the screwups! The doors I just mentioned were supposed to be identical. It turned out that one of them was a special order door. I can't really say what I was supposed to get, but they were to be the same door. There was a $70 difference between the two. At least the manager accepted the return on the special order one.
Then, they delivered 1x6 metal facia trim, but the kit called for 2x6. There were supposed to be only 9 of them, but when they counted what I brought back there were 12! There were other smaller discrepancies, but this assistant manager was beginning to get the picture that I had a legitimate beef with Menards. But each time he started to utter an apology I verbally slapped him down by saying your apologies just don't cut it!!
As I was waiting through the whole process, people were walking by and seeing all that was going on. I kept telling people that they should never buy a building kit from Menards!!!
I will never enter another Menards the rest of my life!!

Worst company ever! BBB rating is "F"!

"BEFORE YOU DO BUSINESS WITH MENARDS, check their BBB rating!!! It is an "F". They do not attempt to resolve any problems and do not comply with FTC rules regarding change of shipping. I cancelled an order because the ship date was pushed back over 2 weeks. They issued a refund minus the rebate amount. The rebate has not been issued and clearly states that it will be reduced by the amount of any returns. They cheated me out of $106."

TERRIBLE SERVICE

"I was excited to see a new hardware store competing with Home Depot and Lowes when it arrived in our area. I have now done business with this location and am disgusted by the true lack of service I receive when doing business with this location.

Example: Online order for 6 x 12 x 8 pressure treated lumber. The lumber was terrible quality, and because I wasn't taking that item, your staff thought it was appropriate to tell me to take my car already loaded with lumber to customer service on the other side of the store to correct the order. Really ? No, that is the staff's job to do.

Example: I purchased an exterior 1/2 light door with window that opens that should have a screen in it. Picked up on 6/6/21, installed on 6/15/21. Discovered after the installation by my contractor that the screen is missing. So, how does Menards staff handle this? They tell me to run after the manufacturer to get the screen that should have been with the door to begin with. No, that is the staff's job. Not the customer who spent over $300 for that door.

So, here is my response to Menards. I will be returning several items tomorrow from my last order and I will never do business with Menards again. Your service is infinitely worse than Home Depot. You should be ashamed of this store.

Buyers beware when purchasing expensive items!!!

"My husband and I purchased a gas snapper Honda pressure washer from the Avon, Ohio store. When we finally put everything together, come to find out something wasn’t right and we were missing the tip. We went to the store and the lady tells us that it was supposed to come with 5 tips so you can adjust the pressure. The pressure washer cost us $369.99. Obviously we are very upset that we just purchased a washer with missing items. The assistant store manager Adam was not apologetic what so ever, did not give us what we were missing and told us we have to either buy new ones or call product warranty. I just payed $369.99 for a product with missing items and I have to buy my own. My husband was so mad. Also of course we couldn’t return the item because now we had to get it serviced because of the gasoline that we put in it, so now we are spending extra money to use a product that we can’t even use unless we spend more money. Buyers beware if you think that assistant manager Adam will help in anyway what so ever. Trust me never purchase an item in the Avon Ohio location until you make sure it has all the pieces in there because they will not help, not care not will they give you money back for the missing items!!!! "

"Loaded about $400 dollars worth of treated lumber on a cart.catching my breath because it is harder work than pushing buttons on a cash register.the casher who didn't have her mask covering her nose told me to put mine on right.l put mine on like she had hers.she called the manager and he kicked me out telling me they didn't need my money.they can keep the $63 rebate from a different store roofing items I purchased the day before -they understand bisness the took my money.lowes has a customer for life no matter the difference in price. "

Horrible service

"I went to the Wichita East store on a Tuesday. I found some clearance displays that were marked down. Travis W. Rang me up a pick ticket and informed me the item would need to be taken down that night because they are not allowed to have forklifts in the store during business hours. Note at this time he did not have me pay or direct me to a register. So I go home thinking every thing is fine and dandy and that I will be picking up the item in the morning.
Wednesday morning comes and I call the store to make sure they pulled the items. I spoke with Jim ? the building materials mgr. He said there was no such work order and that if I wanted the items I would need to come in today and pay for the items. Then they would pull the items that night and I would have to come in the next day to pick it up. Fast forward I asked to talk to store mgr. Who was even more rude about the situation. Andrew? The store manager refused to take payment over the phone. He again stated that I had to come in and do the run around because Travis W. could not fully do his job and explain the process. Now Andrew? would not give me any last names so I could complain to the next level up. Which I also feel is unprofessional because if you cant put your name behind your decision your probably not doing everything possible to help the customer. To me it looks like they are trying to hide their identity so they dont get in trouble.
So IF I go back to start the run around process I will not get my items till Friday.
I feel I could of paid over the phone or maybe even picked up the item after hours to save time and gas money. There was no mgr skills what so ever to try and help me out. I felt like I was an inconvenience to them and really didnt want my money.

Most inconvenient place I know

"The level of mask enforcement is tyrannical. At one point they banned children for "health safety". The store layout is extremely inconvenient for contractors. They force their staff to harass you for help, but almost never can answer simple questions and your stuck waiting on them to call a manager, even when you could have found it faster yourself if only you had ignored the employee. Basically I feel that menards considers all their patrons to be sick, enfeebled idiot's who are also all thieves. That is the impression I get from every store, so if ever possible I avoid this business. Also, much of their "deals" are cheap sh** that doesn't last long and isn't worth the deal. "
