their "explanation" is that their network provider charged them, which I can never find out

"My boyfriend was using Mobal because he needed a phone plan for international travel. The contract was misleading because it literally said that it would be just "$30/mo for an unlimited plan of calling and texting" but it's charged $1.40 for every text and $1/min of calling in addition to $30/mo... He now owes over $700 out of nowhere.

Also worth noting is that the portal he pays for the plan on made it so that he can no longer access the electronic contract he signed. He could only find the old contact on Archive. org. He found they changed the contract and confirmed they retroactively charged him. It changed days after he got it...they withheld important information until after they charged him several hundred."

"If you are staying in Japan for less than a year and have your own place, just opt for a Sakura Fiber Home Wifi, and apply for LINE Mobile, or LINEMO for data when you go out. Mobal's pocket wifi only provides 100GB of fast connection, and when it runs out, you're stuck to a really slow connection which in all fairness is mentioned in their website, and not at all in fine print. When the 100 GB allocated data ran out, I considered buying their tourist sim for 8 days which has unlimited GB - but the extra cost. You'll have to wait until the 1st day of the next month for the data allocation to reset."

"My husband and I got 2 sims 1 for Android 1 for iPhone and first off they sent us 2 android sims. We had to have them send us the iphone sim again. When my husband got to Japan 10 days before me his sim had been activated several days in advance but would not connect leaving him stranded in a new city. He had to use a McDonald’s free WiFi to get a super expensive Uber to his hotel because he couldn’t navigate the trains without WiFi. They did connect him the next day.
Then there are the charges all $300 (on top of the sims and service)of them for 1 month. They use the word unlimited a lot but nothing is free nor unlimited. Soon as you run out of high speed (and if you spend more than a week you will) the WiFi slows to a crawl. Then you get charged for EVERYTHING if you want to use your phone as a phone then this sim is the WORST. They charge for every text in and out of the country even to sims from the same company and same thing for calls even to toll free numbers. So if you need to contact anyone your phone is now super expensive.
I could have just turned on international on my phone carrier and paid less and would have gotten my texts to my real number all of witch were lost.
If I were to go back I would just rent a pocket mifi at the airport and that would at least work on all my devices as you can not turn your phone into a hotspot or put the sim in your mifi. If you don’t move around a lot nearly every hotel and Airbnb offer pocket mifis for free.
I did have my bank reverse the charges as they were over the top and this company misrepresents their product. "

"Take care of this company. I got the sim card for Japan. They are not very honest in the charges they take I paid extra text or call that I did not use or at least it is not really clear. I suspended my subscription but they still continue to take my money!!!

"I ordered phone end of January for upcoming trip in April and I went to setup phone and try to make calls to multiple numbers and was unsuccessful. I decided to return but company will not refund me because they will only return up to 7 days after purchase. I contacted seller and they were not helpful or considerate."

"This is an automated money sucking machine with a very good marketing.

I used once for 7 days in Philippines, charged more than $700.00 for 50 MB data usage and no more than 4 calls and 20 text messages.

There are 10 times more cheap options if you do the home work, I did not. You can buy a local SIM card in the Manila Airport with unlimited calls and data and cost 10 times less.

Aparently only 1 customer service representative for credit department, if 10 customer calls at the same time and each one take 4 minutes do the math for a long distance phone call.

Do not give your credit card to be charged without detail invoice charges unless you have a tree that grows money.

Almost cost more than the airplane ticket. "

"Don't do it! I bought a phone for use for my trip to Vietnam. I am good at technology, but the transition from my iphone (back) to the Samsung was awful. Worse, much, was the incredible expense. I only used the phone for a couple of weeks, to check in with my husband a couple of times a day, but the total bill was over $700. Much better option was facetime via the simcard I bought for my ipad, cost about $10. I am just sorry I didnt figure this out earlier.
Once I got home, I got a series of very annoying phone messages on my home phone about my remaining
balance. I kept checking my online account, but all the invoices there had been paid in full. I finally got a letter demanding $15 more, instructing me to check my online account. I did. It is still not there. I sent an email to customer support, expressing my frustration and intent to cancel my service and sell the phone asap. The response curtly told me that I was not allowed to do that but did not deal with where I was to find the invoice correlating to the outstanding balance. Finally I called, and was on hold for 10 minutes. Then I was told that the balance does not appear on invoices; those are what have already been paid?????
I paid them off and will never ever deal with them again.
My advice: steer clear, buy a verizon iphone5 and install a local sim card!"
