"My experiences with ModCloth have been hit or miss. So far, I've bought six products from them: four dresses, a coat, and a tote bag. The first dress I got was from their bi-annual clearance sale. Not the most perfect dress, but I don't complain: it flatters my silhouette and was a steal at under $20 (with shipping). With that happiness in mind,

I purchased my second dress, the Read-y for Inspiration dress. In the picture, it looked of great quality and was a beautiful, vibrant red. I ordered it with excitement, but when I got it, I was extremely disappointed. The red was duller than the picture, the buttons were sewed on cheaply, there were loose threads sticking out around the buttons, and the material was just thin and cheap.


So, I went looking for yet another dress, and I came across the Feisty Firecracker dresses. Strapless, a bit on the short side, and sexy, they looked absolutely great. They came in Sparkler (ivory) and red. They were out of red, so I got a Medium in Sparkler. The dress was sub-par: the color didn't flatter me (as I'm already pale), it barely zipped at all (I had to have someone help me zip it), and both the back and the middle bunched up. It also seemed to run small on me, even though I normally wear an M and ModCloth said it ran true to size. The only thing I liked about the dress was the material: it was a really nice smooth satin.


When I saw one of the red came back in stock, I immediately snagged it. It was a Large, but ModCloth said the red version ran small and to size up, so I thought it would be perfect. WRONG. WORST dress I've ordered from them. The dress ran too big: it was too long in the torso, too big in the bust, and bunched up like all heck in the back. The zipper on this one was also horrible, but the worst thing was the material. In the photo, it looks satiny like the Sparkler. In reality, it's like a rough taffeta. Also, it's a more dull color than the photo. Horrible! I called Customer Service and explained the issue. The woman I spoke to was nice, but couldn't do anything for me, since I was currently in possession of the very last red one. She told me to return both.


I ended up keeping the Red-y for Inspiration dress because it was too late to go find another dress for Christmas, and because it fit my figure well. I returned both of the Feisty Firecracker dresses. The Red-y dress actually turned out to work well: I wore it with a petticoat underneath and some green leggings; my family loved the look. The refunds for the other two dresses took a full month to process and get back to me (ModCloth said it takes up to 5 business days). Despite how the Red-y dress worked, I'm still not happy with the shoddy quality.


However, I did purchase two items that I absolutely love: the Mother Earthly Tote, and the Plum to the Mountains jacket. The tote is made of organic cotton and lead-free inks. It's got a gorgeous, hand-drawn design on it and it's quite roomy; it holds all my stuff. I carry it around with me all the time; I love it! The Plum jacket is made by Steve Madden. I bought it in a Large and it fits me perfectly. It's perfectly warm, and the purple color is rich (even though it's not as bright as the photo).


So, overall, ModCloth has been...okay. Not stellar, but not horrendous. The photos definitely are misleading a lot of the time in terms of color, size, fit, and quality. No wonder the site offers free returns and exchanges! A lot of their products are definitely overpriced, especially for what you get in terms of quality. Not surprising, as almost all of the stuff I have purchased from them is made in China. My final advice: just be aware when you order from them that there's a good chance you will not receive what you are expecting."

"I have only had really positive experiences with ModCloth. I love their clothes, anything that you get will be entirely unique and lovely. One thing that I learned is to always read reviews, I don't buy anything without reading about what people have to say. Sometimes the quality of the product isn't what you're expecting but the look usually is; this is something to learn from their site reviews. I love everything that I have received! I've only had one problem concerning a credit charge that wasn't taken off in 5 days but it was during the holidays so I understand. I got on their chat feature of customer service and I received a response promptly. The longest that I've had to wait for an item is 4 days and that was also during the holidays. "Hi, I bought two dresses and a pair of mittens. I was really looking forward to it, totally excited! My dad said a packet had arrived and he paid €130 for it. I was surprised, I didn't know you had to pay extra for shipping, why was there no warning? I searched the website and indeed, small letters... But no where even an estimation! I live in Belgium, so, yeah, I should have been more careful and a little smarter. The one dress was nice, but the other in the same size actually was very big for me... I was thinking of returning it, but because of the pricey shipment pay, I just had it altered. Felt like a safer choice.
I loved clicking on the hearts for dressed and other stuff, but now I won't ever order again, it's not as much fun any more."

"there stuff is OK, at best. Lots of made in china footwear. I placed a order and within 24 hours wished to add to the order to avoid double shipping chrges. I was informed it was to late to change the order! Even though it had not been shipped, that is poor customer service, unhappy! The boots I received are no different in quality that you can find at a "immitation" leather boot anywhere."

"I have ordered a few products from Modcloth, they always have the most awesome variety of clothes and are great with making sure the sizing charts fit the item. I have also encountered costumer service for 2 items I purchased and had a very satisfiable experience. The first item was a beautiful dress that slightly came unsewn at a wedding I was wearing it to. I contacted Modcloth and they responded timely and also offered a % refund back to my card for the damage. The most recent experience was also fantastic, the underlay of my dress tore 10% up the leg. I contacted modcloth (and showed a picture) and they ended up mailing me a brand new dress at no additional charge while also not making me mail back the original item, talk about hassle free! Even with the few issues I have had with 2 of the items I have bought, I will still continue to shop here because they have always exceeded my expectations when fixing the problem."

"I ordered a coat and a pair of earrings on December 4th and received them within a week. The Steve Madden coat was for my daughter, looked great on her and seems like a good, quality product. The earrings were kind of a novelty, but surprisingly, the quality was very good. Fortunately, I had no need for customer service, so no gripes there. Good job ModCloth!"

"Horrible first experience from Modcloth. I should have listened to that nagging voice in the back of my head that told me not to buy from Modcloth after seeing some very negative reviews. I shop online ALL the time and have absolutely NEVER had a negative experience before, until now. I bought a very over-priced dress that looked absolutely beautiful in the pictures. After about a week and a half it finally arrived... well not my dress but someone else's order =(

So I talked to customer service via chat and it took forever to get a response as it seems they only had one person working. I got kicked off the chat because the lady took too long to respond back. So I had to again write everything about my order and information. I asked if I could get some kind of discount from my order for the inconvenience as the order probably wouldn't make it in time for the occasion I bought it for AND because they asked ME to go out of my way to return this ugly little top they accidentally sent to me. Anyways she said all she could offer me was to return my shipping charge or take 10% off my next order (yeah right like I'm ever going to shop with you guys again). After about 4-5 days I finally got my REAL order and was shocked about how thin and cheap the dress was. It was nothing like how I imagined it would be, especially for its price tag. The fabric was so thin you could see right through it. And the material was very clingy and static-y, it kept sticking to my legs even with tights on. I felt cheated out of my money with this dress. But I must applaud ModCloth's Photographer, they sure make their items look great on the site pictures, because this dress looked nothing like it did on the picture when I got it in person. Buy at your own risk, and beware of their poor quality overpriced items."

"Careful what you buy. Most of the products they sell that do not have a designer mentioned are very cheap things that are made in China. They tend to be flimsy and high-priced. THEY CENSOR NEGATIVE REVIEWS OF PRODUCTS. They claim to be democratic, but are actually a dictatorship. I left a negative review about the All The Buzz Satchel because it is cheap and not worth the price and they omitted my review but only posted the positive reviews they received. Very deceptive."
