Ripoff!

"I was given two gift cards for MovieTickets.com for my birthday on June 1. I used the cards successfully for my first purchase just a couple of days later. But when I tried to use the remaining balance a few weeks later, it never worked. And I tried to use it 3 times! I talked with customer service, but they refused to discuss why it didn't work or how to actually use the remaining balance on my card. They just refunded the amount charged to my debit card (which was for the full purchase price).

When I just used it again, the movietickets.com website refuses to let me enter my gift card number. I moved over to Fandango.com (which seems to be the parent company of MovieTickets.com) and they refuse to accept my movietickets.com gift card. So I have over $12 on a gift card that I can't access or use.

What a ripoff!

No customer service

"I wish i could rate the customer service but there isn’t any. No one ever answers phone or emails. Do yourself a favor and buy direct. They provide nothing to buying your tickets except an additional layer of headache and fees and should you need to change anything it’s a complete nightmare! "

"What horrible customer service! They didn't process my Gift card when I put it in to buy tickets. I sent multiple requests to customer service over 3 weeks with no response. Do not use! Fandango is much better!"

Terrible buy - Not worth it

"You can ONLY use the card if your total is > the card. Then you lose the rest of the money on the card. On top of that, you are paying over $3 PER TICKET in convenience fees. Stay away."

Horrible Customer Service

"I had a gift card. I went on their website to purchase tickets for a movie I was going to see that day. It took a very long time to process and when it finally stopped, the screen said "Sorry, this transaction was unsuccessful". Frustrated, I went back to try to purchase again only to find that the site had taken money off my gift card despite the transaction being "unsuccessful". I immediately called and all i got was a recorded message saying to email them for customer service then the line went dead. I immediately emailed and received a response saying that they would get back to me within 72 hours which was not helpful for the movie i was going to see that day. Went to the movie and just paid. When I heard back from them the next day, they pretty much said that the transaction was successful so I was abel to use the tickets purchased. When asked how was I supposed to know that the "Sorry, this transaction was unsuccessful" actually meant that i had indeed purchased tickets and i would like a refund, they told me I would have to either go back to the store where I got the gift card or ask the person who gave it to me to look into it if it was a gift. Absolutely HORRIBLE business and customer service. I emailed them back again with the screenshot of the screen saying the transaction did not go through and requesting a new gift card to make the situation right. I have not heard from them since. Terrible, terrible way to run a business."

Worst experience I’ve ever had ordering anything online

"After 10 times of trying to buy tickets (the continue option wouldn’t pop up) or I would get timed out, I was finally able to buy my ticket. Thirty minutes later, my friend is still trying. She has had the same issues I had. She finally was able to enter payment info, no error messages came up and she was timed out again! This site is NOT user friendly. In fact it is horrible! If you can, keep from using it at all costs!"

Awful customer experience, and useless customer service

"As a family, we made a mistake in the movie selection and immediately called to get a refund or swap to a more appropriate film for the whole family. Customer service rep said 'sorry, no luck' based on our purchase being made with their gift card. Fandango all the way from now on for us."

hostile and unhelpful to customers

"I inadvertently selected the wrong date today instead of tomorrow when buying tickets for my visiting family to go to a movie together. I immediately realized my mistake when I received the confirmation email and called movietickets.com within 10 minutes of my purchase. The customer service rep's response was "read the refund policy in your confirmation email." In other words: tough luck. Wow did she seem unhappy in her job. I next called the movie theater and the service rep said he could exchange the tickets if I came in person before the movie started. Unfortunately, the movie started in 30 minutes and I live an hour away. He added that he thought all online ticket agencies offered a refund policy for situations like this so I should re-check with them. Nope. Not Movietickets.com. So much for being customer obsessed. At least I have an opportunity to express my frustation with my wallet. From now on its Fandango or any service but MovieTickets.com. "

"Couldn't use directly at the theater. Tried to buy online, didn't work at all on iPhone, crashed on a Samsung. Ended up going home because of this website's awful function+very disappointed by the price. "

"We bought movie tickets at Sams Club at a discounted rate. We took the card to the movie theater to use it like we had done many times before and were told by the clerk that now we had to get our tickets online. So the next time we wanted to see a movie I went on to the website to obtain our tickets. To my surprise there was a $3.00 "CONVENIENCE" fee added to the price of the tickets. This convenience fee was for the following: We would not have to stand in line to get our tickets, simply go to the ticket taker they would scan your ticket and we could go into the theater. We did that, however the ticket taker said that we would need to stand in line to get their tickets because they don't have the technology to scan in the tickets that we printed out from your website. So we got in line, stood there for at least 20 minutes, got the theaters tickets, took them to the ticket taker and saw the movie. So my question is - What Convenience are we paying for? The paragraph below is taken directly from the movietickets.com website.

You will need to print out your Print at Home ticket or Confirmation Email as your form of ticket(s) retrieval. There is no need to stand in line at the box office window. Go directly to the ticket taker to scan your Print at Home ticket or Confirmation Email for admission. In the event the Print at Home ticket or Confirmation Email are unavailable, go to the box office and provide your confirmation number.

So, not only did we not save any money, but it costs us more to go to a movie with these movietickets.com tickets!

A Hair's Breadth Short of a Scam

"This is one of the worst services imaginable, to say nothing of the hidden "convenience" charges that Costco doesn't disclose. It took me an hour to order two movie tickets because of bugs in the ordering protocol. I probably entered my discount card number 10 times before my order was eventually accepted and confirmed. Whatever paltry amount one saves once the service charge is added hardly makes the hassle worth it. And, forget calling customer service. I tried three time; the phone rings a half-dozen times and then goes dead. Perhaps not a total scam, but a total rip-off unless your time and emotional well-being do not matter to you."

"EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED!

movietickets.com website issues created several problems and and made going to a movie rather un-enjoyable. Considering the service specifically deals in online purchase of movie tickets, their platform failed to honor promo codes, process reserved seating or confirm the order attempts in a reasonable time frame.

I made several attempts to purchase tickets via movietickets.com on 11/7 and it should not take 45 minutes to confirm you have tickets.

I would enter the information requested and chose available seats numerous times, however, the final step would time the session out before the transaction was confirmed.

We also had 3 different promo codes that would not process, the site kept saying processing.

We finally received a confirmation, however, we were not able to choose seats online, we had to use best available. The issue is, we had our son with and did not want to be separated in the theater. The confirmation did not indicate any seat assignment or that we would be together.

This prompted us racing to the theater nearly 20 miles with 25 mins before showtime. We were able to connect with the theater and ensure we could get 3 seats together, however, we were charged twice for one movie that is marked by a very unpleasant experience due to movietickets.com

Also, when the confirmation was finally received a promo code for a download song was provided in the confirmation email, however, the download code proceeded to download a .zip file into my computer.

Also, we made several attempts purchase tickets over the phone via ***-***-**** to no avail and attempts to contact customer service via ***-***-**** were also unsuccessful until 11/8/2014. When I was finally able to talk with a customer service personal they were pleasant, however, would not resolve our issue and said that someone would need to get back to us.

We are not a frequent user of movietickets.com, however, last nights experience will weigh heavily on any future choice of using your services.
